17. Home Again
The elven company returned to Rivendell safely a few days after departing from Lothlórien. Cadhradriel was happy to be back home.
Erestor greeted the company when they arrived.
Cadhradriel dismounted and stroked Fyrien's mane before the mare was lead back to the stables. Sarthanir dismounted. He came over to his sister who was speaking with Erestor.
"It was a lovely visit, but I'm happy to be home."
"I'm sure you are, my lady."
Sarthanir laughed. "Oh please, she's just happy to be home so she can see her special Ellon," he winked and nudged her.
Erestor raised an eyebrow and rolled his eyes. "Of course you are."
Cadhradriel flushed as he walked away. Once Erestor was out of sight, the eldest of the siblings grabbed her little brother's pointed ear.
The pair continued their banter until a deep voice made its presence know. "Cadhradriel, if you are going to irritate your brother, please do it elsewhere. Preferably inside our family's quarters."
The siblings pulled away from each other to see their father, Glorfindel, standing there with an unamused look on his face.
Cadhradriel extended her hand to her father in the elven way. "I'm going to go find Lindir. Have you seen him?"
Glorfindel shook his golden head. "I have not. Try the gardens, he's usually there this time of day."
His eldest child thanked him, and ran off to find her beloved.
oOo
Lindir winced as he plucked a wrong string on his harp. He was trying to learn a new song, but he was having trouble finding the right chord.
He sighed and set his harp down. "If only Cad were here. She could inspire me," he thought and looked to the ground. His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of feet pattering softly towards him.
Lindir looked up to see the Elleth he thought of approaching him, a soft smile on her face. The chocolate haired elf smiled and rose to meet her halfway. He wrapped his arms around her small frame, silently thanking the Valar she was home safely.
Cadhradriel's face was buried in Lindir's hair, breathing in his scent. It was fresh and clean, and her favorite smell in all of Middle Earth. They parted for a brief moment, as Lindir held her out at an arms length to look her over.
"Meleth, you look tired. Go get some rest."
The Elleth shook her head. "I'm perfectly fine. I'm just happy to be home again with you. I've missed you more than words can describe."
Lindir smiled and took her hand in his. Cadhradriel returned the smile as she was lead around the gardens.
The couple spoke of events that had taken place both in Rivendell and Lothlórien. Cadhradriel mentioned her new love for the trees of Lórien and how she would love to show him one day.
Lindir smiled as he listened to his love speak of her adventure. He chuckled when she mentioned how her brother had fallen head over heels in love with an Elleth, and he didn't even know her name.
The pair arrived outside the doors to Cadhradriel's quarters. Lindir kissed the palm of her hand, which caused the Elleth to blush. "Meet me in the gardens after dinner."
Cadhradriel nodded and kissed his cheek. "I'll be there."
