1. Gondolin

A/n: SUPER LONG!

Glorfindel paced back and forth outside of his chambers. Cries of pain and anguish could be heard from behind the oak doors.

A few moments later, the sounds of a baby could be heard from the outside.

The doors open as a midwife exits, a smile on her face. "Congratulations my lord. You have a daughter."

Glorfindel smiles and approaches the bed where his wife and newborn daughter were. Daelarien, his wife, was propped up against the pillows, holding a small bundle.

Upon hearing the echoes of footsteps, the new mother looks up, smiling weakly as she sees her husband. The lord sits down on the bed, placing one hand on her knee as he edges closer to the little bundle.

"She is beautiful. Like her mother."

Daelarien smiles. "She may have my dark hair, but her eyes and face are yours melamin."

Glorfindel kisses her forehead, and bends down to kiss his daughter. "What do you want to call her?"

Daelarien looks her daughter over for a moment. She moves the blanket back a little, stroking her cheek.

"Cadhradriel."

Glorfindel smiles. "I love it."

Over the next few centuries, Cadhradriel grew in wisdom and beauty. Her mother and father were proud of the Elleth she was becoming. Glorfindel was the proudest he had ever been in his long life, and for a brief moment, everything was perfect.

oOo

The fall of Gondolin came at the moment when no one was suspecting. The elves were celebrating the Gates of Summer, a great festival that was held each year in the hidden city.

Cadhradriel held tightly to her father's leg, unsure about the other elflings her age. Glorfindel kneels down next to her.

"Go on. Nana and I will be right here," he gestured towards Daelarien, who was holding her newborn son, Sarthanir.

The blonde elf kisses his daughter's forehead, and gives her a nudge towards an elfling about her age.

Cadhradriel looks to her father. He smiles and adjusts her flower crown. "There. Now you are as pretty as a princess, my little flower." The elfling giggled and ran to the other children her age.

The Lord of the House of the Golden Flower smiled as she ran off. Then, their perfect world came to an end.

It started with the sound of a dragon's roar, somewhere overhead in the night sky. The elves ran back to the safety of their homes, while those who could fight took arms against the dragon.

Cadhradriel ran to her father. Glorfindel scooped her up, wrapping his arms around her tiny body. The little elfling looked up to the sky and saw the outline of a dragon in the moonlight.

"Ada," she whimpered, hugging his neck tighter. Glorfindel glanced up to the sky. He didn't see the dragon, but knew it was there somewhere in the clouds. He reached his wife and son a few moments later.

Daelarien reached her hand out for her young daughter. Cadhradriel took her mother's hand, and hid behind her. Glorfindel kissed his family. "I will return as soon as this is over."

Cadhradriel sniffled, clinging to his tunic. "My flower, I need you to protect your nana and brother. Can you do that for me?" Glorfindel asks, cupping her face in his hand.

The young Elleth nods. She threw her little arms around his neck. "Be safe Ada."

The blonde elf stood up, and took his shield off of the wall of their home. The sounds of screams and horns blowing filled the air, as Glorfindel opened the door to leave.

As Glorfindel reunites with Ecthelion, one of the lords of the houses and guard of the seventh gate, he hears the sound of an Orc horn.

The two elves give each other looks, and head towards the walls of the city. The sight below them, caused Glorfindel's breath to catch. Thousands of orcs and goblins were approaching!

Anger coursed through his veins. Someone had betrayed the city. His blue eyes scanned the large army, and he looked to Ecthelion.

"We cannot hold the city. Their numbers are too great," he said sadly.

Ecthelion nodded. "King Turgon will be somewhere on the wall. Go, I will stay here."

Glorfindel extended his hand to his friend before running off to find the king. Turgon was indeed on the wall as Ecthelion had said. Tuor released an arrow as the elven lord ran up to them.

"My king, we must evacuate the city."

Turgon looks to the elf, sadness in his eyes. "Sound the horn," he says to a page, who took off running to the citadel.

oOo

Daelarien looked up, hearing the warning bell. Cadhradriel glanced up at her mother, fear in her blue eyes.

"Nana, what is that?"

Daelarien struggled to keep her tears back. "We must leave the city."

Cadhradriel froze. The hidden city? The city that had stood for four hundred years? Her home?

Sounds of panic, screams, and horns blowing filled her pointed ears as Daelarien opened the door. She knelt down next to her daughter, grabbing her face in her hands.

"You stay with nana. Don't leave my side."

Cadhradriel nodded and grabbed her mothers hand. Sarthanir was tucked away in a makeshift baby carrier on Daelarien's back.

The young elfling could see other families making their way out of the city through a hidden passage in the mountains. She glanced back to see her home go up in flames as a dragon breathed fire down.

oOo

Glorfindel released an arrow as orcs were getting closer to breaching the gates. The page who sounded the alarm, made his way back to the king.

"The city has started to empty."

King Turgon nodded. "Good. We will hold them off as best as we can."

Glorfindel gave his king a concerned look. Turgon placed a hand on his shoulder. "Mellon nin, go with them. The people will need someone to protect them."

The blonde elf nods to the king. "Yes my lord. May the Valar protect you." And with that, Glorfindel ran after his family.

oOo

Daelarien's feet carry her as fast as she could. Cadhadriel struggled to stay up with her, so the Elleth picked her up.

Other Elleths and elflings had made it to the hidden passage. Now, they stood and watched their city fall to ruin. Cadhradriel whimpered as she heard the dragons roar. "Be strong my flower. Nana and I will protect you."

Glorfindel's voice sounded close to her. The dark haired elfling looked up to see her father standing there. She threw her arms around his neck, and he picked her up with ease.

Daelarien kissed her husband passionately. "The king?"

Glorfindel shook his head. "The city was taken. He asked me to lead the survivors to safety."

Daelarien fought to keep her tears at bay. Glorfindel held her close, an arm around her waist as he held his daughter in his other.

The blonde elf made his way to the front of the people, and lead them through the passage. Cadhradriel still had her arms around his neck, when a loud thunderous roar could be heard.

The elves came to a halt as a huge Balrog stood in their path. Glorfindel unsheathed his sword and out his daughter down. "Go to nana my flower."

The balrog moved towards the people, but Glorfindel stood his ground. Tuor quickly lead the people away from the balrog, as Glorfindel continued to keep it away.

Glorfindel was able to successfully defend the people by pushing the balrog into the abyss. As he made his way back to his family, the balrog reached up and pulled the Ellon in after him.

Cadhradriel screamed for her Ada as she saw him fall into the pit. Tuor picked the elfling up, and followed the people out.

The sounds of his daughter's screamed filled the Ellon's ears, until he awoke in the Hall of Mandos, just a few moments later.
