Hello everyone, I hope you're all doing well! During exam season at University, I spent most of my days with a naked face and massive bags under my eyes. However, now that I'm finished with school, I have all the free time in the world to Glo Up and continue sharing my makeup knowledge with you all.
After breaking the bank at Sephora, I was able to try out some new products that I've wanted for a long time. Today I'll be detailing my May favourites that I'm completely obsessed with.
Here are my current top 5 beauty products that I'd definitely recommend:
1. Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Blur Primer $55
This primer is by far my new favourite part of my everyday makeup routine. After I let my moisturizer set into my skin, I use this primer to prime my face for my foundation. Usually, I'm skeptical of primers that claim they reduce the look of pores, however this one is my holy grail primer. It makes your skin feel so luxurious and smooth. It also has a hint of a golden shimmer in it which is subtle but enhances your natural highlight and inner glow. This primer has also changed the way I apply foundation. I've been using less of my foundation because the primer makes everything so easy and smooth to blend in. Although I splurged on this product, it was definitely worth the money and it has honestly made me skin look and feel flawless all day long. By the way, flawless is an understatement: it is comparable to a cherub's ass.
2. Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder $47
The Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder is another must-have for me. For most of my years of applying makeup, I would set my skin with a heavy foundation powder. Although it reduced the look of bags under my eyes, sometimes it was too heavy for a day time look. I've recently been introduced to a new makeup trend called "baking" which unfortunately doesn't involve chocolate cake. After I apply my concealer, I generously apply the translucent powder with a damp beauty blender underneath my eyes, down the bridge of my nose, under my contour (makes it look extra fleeky), and on my chin. After that, I let my cake bake for around three to five minutes and then sweep the excess gently from my face. This powder prevents my concealer from creasing throughout the day and makes my entire face of makeup last all day and night. I would definitely recommend this powder for anyone who finds their foundation coming off throughout their day or gets crease lines easily underneath their eyes.
3. Becca x Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop $46
This highlighter is the best thing that has ever happened to me. When it comes to the final look of my skin, I prefer matte over dewy. However, sometimes that can make my face look like it has little-to-no dimension but this highlighter was a game changer for me. I normally use the Mary-Lou Manizer by The Balm but I dropped it over 19 times and I figured that was a sign for change. I would only recommend this specific shade of highlighter by Becca because the other ones I have tried didn't give me the glowy unicorn sparkle look that I wanted. #Thishorseisgoals
My sister Samantha tried the shade Moonstone and it had no pigment what-so-ever and defeated the purpose of highlighting. This highlighter is great because if you're looking for something subtle, go in with a light hand but it is easily intensified by layering it on. If you truly want to glo up, this highlighter gives a beautiful bronzy glow which really pulls together any makeup look you're doing. The Becca highlighter is so good that the moonlight will reflect off your face at night. Legit.
4. Mario Badescu Facial Spray, With Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater $9
The Mario Badescu Rose Water spray acts as a double agent. It is an amazing skin care product and also sets your makeup in place all day. The scent is beautiful and the formula is extremely refreshing and hydrating. I usually apply this before moisturizer and once again after I have completed my makeup look to set my makeup. This product is extremely inexpensive and is also amazing for a day where you're not wearing any makeup but need a quick fix of hydration on the skin. I found that this spray makes me feel like I've just washed my face even when wearing makeup. I will no longer be purchasing $40 setting sprays since this product can make me feel so refreshed in just a quick spray.
5. Kylie Cosmetics Lip Gloss "Like Literally So Cute" $45
The Kylie Cosmetics lip glosses have been an absolute staple in my daytime and nighttime glam looks. "Like," which is the lightest shade of the three, suits my skin tone best and will be in my purse all summer long. The lip glosses are extremely hydrating and smooth on your lips and smell like a vanilla daydream. The only problem I had with this product was forgetting to exfoliate before applying the gloss, which only enhanced my chapped swamp monster lips - ew! During her first launch, the applicator brushes were atrocious with bent / broken brush bristles. Luckily, I purchased mine when the applicator was fixed and had absolutely no issues with it. Not only does the formula feel nice and silky on your lips but it stays on really well compared to other glosses I've used. This gloss is perfect for layering over top of a lipstick as well as pairing it with a lip liner similar in colour.
Happy Spring, Everyone!
