Chapter 4
Diamond's POV
After my transformation, I looked at my new (or rather, old) appearance in awe. I still had a white and blue feathery outfit, some shiny rings on my wrists, and longer, brighter hair in a ponytail. Surprisingly, everything still fits!
Ira looked at me in shock. His face looked a little red...
"It worked! Now, test out your powers!" Rory commanded.
"Okay...!" I jumped up and clumsily attempted to kick the Distain.
"DISTAIN!"
It simply dodged and let me crash into the ground.
"Rachel! Are you okay?" Rory asked worriedly.
"Yeah, it's been a while. Sorry," I sweat-dropped.
Ira cackled at me. "Looks like you forgot to study for this one, Diamond!"
I couldn't help but smile up at him. He didn't change much since the last time we met. He was already around 20 years old, and he still acts like an eight-year-old!
"Ira, you're as cute as ever," I joked.
His face immediately reddened as he scoffed and turned away, his arms crossed. Since he was distracted and the Distain couldn't be ordered around, I jumped up and punched the Distain as hard as I could. It, surprisingly, was sent flying and crashed into a building.
Ira turned around and his eyes widened. I stifled a laugh.
"DIAMOND! YOU TRICKED ME!"
"What's wrong, Ira? Did a single compliment really touch you that much?"
"ZIP IT!"
He held up his index finger and charged up a ball of dark energy from it, then aimed it at me. For a minute, a laser of darkness chased me around the street. However, I wasn't afraid, as I simply dodged and jumped out of harm's way.
"You've improved quite a bit," Ira snarled.
"So did you!" I grinned.
"THAT DEFINITELY WASN'T A COMPLIMENT IF THAT'S WHAT YOU WERE THINKING!!"
While I was looking up at Ira, I didn't notice the Distain standing right in front of me, ready to strike. At the last minute, I leapt away from the ground, where the Distain could've squashed me a millisecond later.
"STOP RUNNING AWAY, LOVEBIRD!" it screeched at me.
I felt a deep sense of determination that I haven't felt in many years. I had a feeling I had enough Glitter Spirit to finish off the Distain.
"It's time to finish this!" Rory screamed. He must've felt this too.
"Right!" I yelled. "Shine on! Twinkle Diamond!"
From the tip of my finger, diamond shards rained down on the Distain, on which two hearts appeared over its eyes.
"Oh, I love him so much!" it squealed in delight as it disappeared in a puff of smoke, replaced with a tiny pink heart with wings. The heart floated back to its owner, who woke up, confused.
"ARGH!" Ira ruffled up his hair in frustration like he always did. "YOU MAY BE BACK, BUT WE'LL BE BACK TOO!" he shrieked as he teleported away and everything turned back to normal.
I looked around at everything being fixed on its own and sighed happily. It felt wonderful to feel young again. I transformed back.
"It's great to be back!" Rory flew up next to me and smiled.
"Yeah, let's go home," I said. All that fighting had gotten me worn out.
"Sure."
"Rory..."
I sat on the couch across from where Rory was floating.
"Where did you go off to? Why did you leave?"
Rory looked at me, then bowed his head guiltily.
"I'm real sorry, Rachel... I..."
"It's okay, Rory. You can tell me anything."
"Okay..."
A few months after the final battle...
Narrator's POV
In a dark, quiet bedroom, Rachel was fast asleep on her bed. Right beside her was her blue pixie friend, Rory, in his own tiny bed. However, he wasn't asleep. The dim moonlight revealed tears rolling down his big eyes.
He slowly got out of his tiny covers and glided soundlessly to the illuminated window. The full moon shone brightly and made Rory feel rather smaller than he already was.
He stifled a sob, looking behind him at his friend, who was sleeping peacefully.
"I guess you don't need me anymore," he muttered.
He opened the window slightly and slipped through the small gap, flying out into the night.
Rachel's POV
"So that's what happened...?" I whispered.
"Yeah. Sorry for being such a drama king... I just knew you didn't need my help now that King Mercenare is gone..." Rory sniffed.
I smiled and massaged his ears, which made squeaking noises under my fingertips. He giggled; I knew he liked it when I did that.
"Even if there's nobody to battle, you're my only companion when my parents aren't home. You're my friend, Rory. Now don't run off like that again, okay?" I pat his head.
"Okay, Rachel!" he giggled.
I'm glad I finally remembered, but I still had many questions running through my head. What about the others? How is Splendorious? How could I possibly forget?
I decided not to worry about it for now. It had been a long day, and I was contented with having Rory back.
"Let's hang at the beach together, just like old days," I told him.
"Sure!" Rory spun around in midair excitedly.
Some things never change...
