Episode. 7
It had been a week since Helena had heard anything from Homelander. It wasn't the first time a guy had ghosted her. But when he did it to her, it felt worse.
Kit was with Lenna as they talked about what had happened. Lenna was making kit some breakfast since Kit came back from the club at five in the morning.
"So... if he listened to you, and he said he wanted you, why would he leave you hanging?" Kit asked her as she leaned on the kitchen island a bit. Lenna sighed.
"I don't know, Kit." She said softly as she mixed the scrambled eggs. "I mean... the way he stared at me. It was like... you know those animal planet episodes where the lions are eating?" She asked her as she turned to look at Kit.
Kit was trying not to giggle and the analogy. "Yes." She said, holding back her laughter. Lenna saw the look on her face and sighed.
"It was like I took his food away... or I WAS the food." Lenna said as she grabbed the salt and lightly sprinkled some on the eggs.
Kit sighed. "Alright, well. When was the last time you talked to him?" She asked Lenna. Lenna paused. Thinking for a moment.
"A week?" She said, not sure herself. "Yeah. I think it's been a week. Why?" She asked Kit.
Kit got out of her chair and walked over to grab her friends shoulders. "You need to call him and finally, please, for me. Get laid!" She yelled at Lenna. Helena winced and pulled her head back as if they would lessen the sound of her yell.
"But what if he ignor-" Kit cuts her off.
"Dude. He threw you against the wall ready to fuck you in a VERY public place. He'll come." She said confidently. Lenna blinked a couple of times. "He wants you, Lenna. He has changed a bit. He's been out of the public more." Kit reassured her.
Lenna sighed softly before she looked over at her phone. "And if he doesn't come over?" She asked Kit.
"Then I'll order take out, and we'll watch cheesy rom com movies till we both puke up cotten candy ice cream." She said, smiling. Lenna smiled and nodded.
With hesitance, Helena walked over to her phone while Kit grabbed her breakfast and Tylenol as she began to leave. Waving Lenna a goodbye and a thumbs up for luck. Lenna finally pressed the call button.
It didn't take two rings before he answered. "Lenna?" He said softly as if he had been crying. Helena could hear it. His cocky tone was gone and replaced with a child like voice.
"John? What's going on? Are you okay?" She asked, worried for him. He sniffled on the other side of the line.
He didn't say anything after that as he was just crying. Lenna didn't hesitate to go onto her balcony and fly up fast as she flew to the seven tower. When she landed at the doors, everyone was going crazy. Security was high, and police were there as well as the funeral home director.
"What's going on?" She asked someone. The police officer looked her way and told her,
"Stillwell is dead." He said to her, and her eyes widened. She didn't waste another second as she flew up to Homelanders office. She pushed the window open and heard sobbing.
"John?" She called out to him as she walked in further. He was under his desk crying. She thought it to be weird, but he was grieving. His blue eyes were red as he just cried. "John." She said softly as she moved closer.
Lenna pushed the chair out of the way and moved closer for him to see. "Hey." She said softly as her green eyes held concern. He looked up at her. "I heard." She said softly as she pulled his hand, making him come closer to her.
He wrapped his arms around her small body and pulled her into him. Both of them just sat under the desk as she ran her fingers through his hair as she tried to calm him down and comfort him.
"I... I killed her." Homelander whispered softly. Lenna froze for a moment. "I killed her. She wasn't looking out for me anymore... so I killed her." He said again, and Lenna went pale. She... she never thought that Homelander would... kill someone. But here she was. Torn between her heroic morals and her blooming love for him.
"How?" She asked him softly, and he hugged her tighter. Afraid she would run from him if he told her the truth.
"My lasers." He whispered. His grip on her got tighter. Helena almost couldn't breathe. How could he just kill her? "She said some means things to me... and I snapped. She tried to tell me to kill you, Lenna." He said softly. Lennas jaw almost dropped.
"She said what?" Lenna said softly. "Why would she-"
"Because she didn't want you around. She said she had no control over me if I was with you." He said cutting her off. Lenna sat there for a moment until he grabbed her face gently. "I won't. I won't hurt you Lenna. I need you. Please. I never wanted anyone so badly in my life, but you give me something. You make me feel things I didn't think I could feel. I'm not a hero, Lenna. I'm a killer. I kill people we all have. But you. You're the one innocent thing left in this fucked up world." He said almost desperately. Which was unlike him.
"Lenna... I want to keep you safe. I want to be your hero, no one else. Please. Let me be that for you?" He asked, and she sat there in shock. How could she not have known? Was she blinded by rose colored glasses. Was he really a killer?
She looks at him. "How... why would you tell me?" She asked him.
"Because... I know you won't do anything about it." He said, and those words made her shiver. "Plus... I know where Kit lives-" Lenna slapped him.
The loud smack echoed in the room. Lenna was breathing heavily when he said that.
"Don't. You EVER. Threaten my friend, John." She said sternly to him. He wasn't shocked, but the slap had made his crying stop. "What you did was wrong. You killed someone, John." She said in a hard tone. "You can't come back from that..." she said softly.
"But she told me to kill you-"
"I KNOW! But threatening to hurt my best friend who is like a sister to me, to make sure I don't tell anyone that YOU killed Stillwell... that's fucked up... even for you, John." Her anger was rising and then falling. She was on a roller coaster ride that she wanted to throw herself off of.
John could see the hurt in her eyes. "What are you going to do?" He asked her. Hoping that she wouldn't have to be next...
"I... I don't know yet..." She whispered softly. "I don't even know how to process what you just told me..." Her green eyes held concern and conflicting. "I need some time." She said to him.
"How much?" He asked, worried that she might run away and leave him to clean up his own mess. "How much time, Lenna?"
She didn't know herself. But she knew she needed to get away from him today. Right now, she was conflicted, and being here with him where It happened wasn't helping her at all.
"Just... time." She whispered softly as she pulled herself away from him. He reluctantly let go of her as she stood up. She was shaking as she tried to walk to the window of his office to leave.
"Lenna?" He called out as he had been out from under the desk looking at her. Helena slowly turned around as she looked at him. Scared and worried. "I didn't mean to threaten Kit... but... you know where I'm coming from. Right?" He asked, and she just stared.
"I should be kicking your ass right now and turning you in, John." She said honestly. "But... I need time. So please... give me time..." Her green eyes pleading him to let her leave and not try anything stupid with her. She REALLY didn't want to hurt him.
"I-" He tried to speak but then sighed and nodded. "Okay." He said softly. "I'll... go see my son." Her heart dropped.
"S-Son?" She said softly. He looked up from the floor to her. He nodded his head, and she was hurt. "H-How old... is he?" She asked.
"He's almost thirteen." He said softly. "I think..." Homelander now thinking of when he fucked that woman.
"Oh... okay." Lenna said softly as she felt hurt and a bit betrayed. But she just turned around and flew out the window. Not looking back as her mind was reeling with a bunch of things. She had a LOT to think about...
