4. Crush, Chop and Burn (Part 4)
*Sophia's P.O.V*
The next morning, we were all down in the lab while the guys packed up the last of their things. As the time for them to leave got closer, the more I dreaded saying goodbye. I really didn't want to have an emotional breakdown in front of everyone, but if it was the last time I could ever see them again, that might just happen.
"What are you doing?" Leo frowned in confusion as Chase started dumping all the office supplies into a black box.
"If Davenport is gonna ship us off the some remote facility, then the office supplies are coming with with us!"
"We were just starting to get a taste of normal life," Bree sighed, "I was this close to getting a curfew which I was totally gonna break!"
"Ooh! But maybe when we get to wherever we're going, we'll meet a sassy lab chimp named Bobo who'll take us on adventures and teach us how to love!" Adam grinned as Chase hopped up onto the cyber desk, sitting next to me.
"Or maybe you'll make him angry and he'll maul you and snack on your fingers." Chase said.
"Hey! I create the monkey fantasies around here!" Adam cried, standing up. I laughed a little.
"Well, kids, I hope you've enjoyed your stay at casa Davenport, I know I haven't. Sayonara!" Eddy's voice piped up. I swear, if I had the strength, I'd rip the wires right out of his motherboard just like Adam did yesterday.
"Eddy, I know we've never really been the best of friends, but we're really gonna miss you." Bree said.
"Aww, really?"
"No!"
"We hate you!"
"You're evil!"
"So, where is this train facility, anyway?" I asked bitterly, turning to the screen Eddy had popped up on.
"Facility X? Oh, it's all the rage." His screen went to a picture of a beautiful tropical island.
"Oh, that's pretty nice." Chase smiled.
"Oh, sorry, that's my screensaver. You're going here." He showed us a picture of an underground cave in a frozen tundra.
"Forget office supplies, we should be gathering wood!" Chase cried, looking scared like the others.
"Man... I never should've thrown that party, I can't help but think this is all my fault." Leo sighed. I got off the cyber desk and walked over to my brother, the others following me.
"No, Leo, it was my fault. If I had never asked for your help, you would've never even thought of the party."
"Aw," Adam put a hand on my shoulder, "It was both of your faults." We both looked at him, hurt.
"Adam!" Bree reprimanded, "They were only trying to help us!"
"Well, yeah, but they did the opposite, which is not help us. The not makes it the opposite." Adam continued, "Look, I'm sorry, I'm just so bummed. This is the only place we've ever known." He pouted.
"Yeah, just think about all the memories we've had here." Chase said, as he, Adam and Bree stared off into the distance, thinking of a flashback. Leo and I just stood there awkwardly, no idea what was going through their brains because, y'know, we're not mind readers. After a couple minutes, the bionics smiled nostalgically and shook their heads, returning back to reality.
"We can't just let Davenport send you guys away!" Leo cried, "Let Soph and I talk to him. No one can say no to this million-dollar smile!" He grinned, pointing to his face.
"And who can resist the cute little sister?" I shrugged, an innocent smile on my face showing my dimples. We both went upstairs, to see Mr Davenport at his desk by the window. We went up to him and asked him to give Adam, Bree and Chase another chance.
"No." He said bluntly.
"But-"
"Uh uh."
"But don't you think they-"
"Forget it."
"But what if you-"
"La la la la la!" Mr Davenport sang, putting his fingers in his ears to shut me and Leo out as he went upstairs. We finally gave up and went back down to the lab.
"Well..." I began as Adam, Bree and Chase looked at us hopefully.
"We're pretty sure he's gonna think about it!" Leo exclaimed, not having the heart to tell them what really happened.
~~~
Me and Leo were miserably sat in the hallway and since we were both pretty small, we were able to share the big, black recliner thingy that was next to the bookshelf.
"Leo, Sophia, there you are!" Mom said as she walked in. We just continued to pout, ignoring her, but that didn't stop her from trying to make us feel better, "Oh, guys, I know you're upset about your friends leaving, but think about all the great times we'll all get to spend together! We could play that little video game, you know the one where you have the thingy and you have to move the other thingies?"
"Mom, with all due respect, it is way too late in life for you to learn video games." Leo sighed as we both got up and walked into the living room. Mom frowned and followed us. We walked in to find Davenport fiddling with something covered by a big sheet.
"Good morning, happy family." He smiled.
"What is that?" Mom asked.
"Whatever it is, don't get too attached." I mumbled, glaring at Davenport who rolled his eyes.
"Look, guys, I know you're gonna miss Adam, Bree and Chase, so I laser-scanned their features onto these bio-synthetic robots and I programmed them with their core personality traits!" He grinned excitedly as he pulled the sheet away to reveal three things that looked exactly like Adam, Bree and Chase, "Is this great or what?! It'll be like they never left!"
Leo raised an eyebrow and walked over to Adam - or Robot Adam should I say - and tapped him on the chest, making it sound like he was hitting a tin can, which he kinda was... Robot Adam flicked Leo in the forehead and usually, I would've laughed at something like that, but today I was just too depressed.
"So, what do you think?" Mr Davenport asked.
"I think the excitement of having a billionaire dad just wore off." Leo grumbled, rubbing his head where Robot Adam assaulted him.
"Donald, I don't know about this," Mom frowned, walking over to her husband, "I kind of prefer Leo and Sophia to have friends who won't malfunction and tear them limb from limb." The real Adam, Bree and Chase then walked in wearing their mission suits.
"What are those?" Bree asked.
"Oh, Mr Franken-Brain here is trying to replace you with creepy robots." I explained, before adding, "Welcome to crazy town!"
"Good morning. The time is 11:22 and the temperature is currently 68 degrees." Robot Adam said as real Adam walked up to him.
"You made a robot of me that just stands around telling people the time and the temperature?" Adam looked at Mr Davenport who smiled and nodded, "That's the coolest thing I've ever seen!"
Bree was the next one to inspect her robot. She walked up to it and squinted, "Does my nose really look like that?"
"No, yours has a faint moustache underneath." Robot Bree said. Bree gasped, self-consciously putting a hand over her mouth. Leo, Adam and Chase all burst out laughing and I glared at them for being so mean, hitting Chase's arm.
"Hey everyone, I'm Chase. Let's do m-m-m-" Mr Davenport had to whack Robot Chase in the stomach to stop him from malfunctioning, "Math."
We all started laughing while Chase growled, "It's not funny!"
"You're right, it's f-f-f-" I lightly hit Adam in the stomach, "Funny." And we all laughed even more. Chase just pouted and crossed his arms over his chest. He did look kinda cute when he was grumpy... Wait, what?
The sound of the doorbell snapped me out of my thoughts and along with everyone else, I looked towards the front door as Davenport went to answer it. He opened it to reveal a big guy in a black suit and sunglasses. My heart dropped as I figured out who it was.
"Hey Fitz, how's it going? How's life? How're the kids?" Davenport tried to make conversation, only to get nothing in response, "Alrighty then... You guys should've seen him at the Christmas party, he's a karaoke master!" He told us. I just rolled my eyes and looked at Leo, before turning to Adam, Bree and Chase.
"Well, I guess this is it..." Bree trailed off sadly, "Thanks for everything, guys."
"Yeah, you're the best friends we've ever had." Chase added. I could only manage a small smile because I knew that if I tried to talk or hug them goodbye, I would've crumbled to pieces.
"They're the only friends we've ever had." Adam said.
"Okay, don't forget to bundle up on your deadly missions!" Mom said, giving them all a motherly hug before they started walking towards the door.
"Hey, remember, this is a good thing," Davenport said, "Without any distractions, you might be able to finish your training early." The three of them just glared at him before walking out the door. I bit my lip hard to keep myself from crying as they walked down the driveway and got in the car, before Davenport closed the door.
~~~
After Leo and I sulked for a few hours, we decided to go down to the lab, only to find those stupid, creepy robots down there.
"Hello, Insert Name Here, would you like to participate in silly, happy, fun time?" Robot Adam asked.
"Get lost, you can't replace our real friends." Leo snapped.
"We really loved those guys." I added, my eyes downcast.
"Don't be sad, Mr Leo and Miss Sophia. Friends come and go, but robots are forever." Robot Chase said, "Dibbly dibbly. That's my version of a laugh. Dibbly dibbly." Me and Leo looked at each other and rolled our eyes simultaneously.
"Will you tin-heads get out of here?!" I shouted as Leo and I walked away from them.
"Sensing human hostility." Robot Chase said.
"Must exterminate." Robot Bree said before they started walking towards us.
"Robots attack." Robot Adam said. Leo and I looked at each other in alarm and tried to run away but we weren't fast enough. Robot Chase caught me while Robot Bree caught Leo. I screamed and started struggling in Robot Chase's grip, until the three robots started laughing. Hang on, robots don't laugh...
"Sophia! Calm down, it's me!" Robot Chase - or real Chase - said. I stopped struggling but his arms stayed around me.
"Huh?!" Leo and I exclaimed, both of us confused as Chase let go of me and Bree let go of Leo.
"We told the driver we forgot something and swapped the robots in our place." Chase explained with a grin.
"You said you loved us! You said you loved us!" Adam teased, making kissy faces at us so I slapped him.
"OW!" He screamed, rubbing his cheek.
"It is you guys!" Leo beamed, throwing himself at Adam for a hug. I squealed and hugged Chase, who was closest to me. I realised we hugged for a little too long and we both pulled away. I blushed and I think he did to as we went and joined Adam, Leo and Bree for a group hug.
"Wait, what about Davenport?" I asked after we all pulled away.
"That's easy," Adam claimed, "We just have to act like dumb robots every single time he's around."
"It'll be easier for some of us than others." Bree said, eyeing Adam and making me giggle. Mr Davenport then walked in and Adam, Bree and Chase assumed the position of pretending to be robots.
"Hey guys." Davenport chirped as he walked in.
"Big D! Donny! Man of the house!" Leo, please shut up now.
"What are you two doing?" He asked suspiciously.
"What are we doing?" Leo asked nervously.
"We are hanging out with our robot fake people friends!" I said and Leo nodded.
"Ain't no party like a robot party 'cause a robot party don't stop!" He sang like an idiot, making me face palm.
"See, I told you you'd like 'em." Mr Davenport smiled.
"Like them? We love them!" I exclaimed. Adam started making kissy faces at us again while Mr Davenport's back was turned and I had to resist the urge to slap him again.
"You know what the best part about having a robot is?" Mr Davenport asked as Adam went back to pretending to be a dead-still robot.
"What?" I wondered.
"They are virtually indestructible." Uh oh.
"Huh?" Mine and Leo's eyes widened as Mr Davenport held up some electrical gadget type thing.
"Watch this." He smirked before zapping Adam with the gadget.
"Hey, quit it!" I yelled.
"Don't worry, they don't feel a thing." He shocked Chase next and I wanted to rip the stupid device out of his hand, stomp on it and then throw it out the window... And then maybe to the same to Mr Davenport...
"Don't even try it." Bree said in a robot voice, holding her hand up when he tried to zap her.
"Ooh, you're a feisty robot." Davenport laughed before handing me the gadget, "You try it."
"No."
"Come on."
"I'm fine."
"Just once."
"Fine!" I grabbed the thing and shocked Mr Davenport with it, making him fall to the ground. We all started laughing and I giggled, "You're right, that was fun."
