2. Crush, Chop and Burn (Part 2)

*Sophia's P.O.V*

After Mom and Leo left, I just stood there, staring at the floor and trying to hold back tears. I didn't know where to go from here. I wasn't just going to walk into the lab, it wasn't my place and I couldn't just barge in, and I sure as heck wasn't going to follow Mom and Leo upstairs. Suddenly, the door to the lab opened and Bree walked in.

"Hey, you okay?" She asked. I shrugged, wiping the tears that had escaped down my cheeks.

"My mom and brother hate me, why would I not be okay?" I replied sarcastically, my voice wobbling.

"Come on, I'm sure they don't hate you."

"You should've seen the way they looked at me."

"I'm sure they'll get over it eventually, you just need to give them time. Now, c'mon, if you're not gonna go upstairs, you're not gonna stand here and mope either." She grabbed my arm and started pulling me into the lab. I was going to protest, but I wasn't in the mood for anymore arguments so I just went with it and followed Bree in.

~Next Morning~

I woke up to my alarm clock beeping it's head off. Well, technically it doesn't have a head...but you get it. I slammed it off and groaned. Why must Mondays exist?!

I rolled out of bed and trudged over to my closet. I got dressed in a yellow tank top underneath a grey knitted cropped sweater, a pair of high waisted acid wash skinny jeans and a pair of black combat boots. I slipped my black anchor necklace around my neck and ran a brush through my hair, leaving it down and natural before grabbing my black studded backpack and leaving my bedroom.

I seemed have really bad timing because Leo happened to be exiting his own room at the exact same time as I was exiting mine and since our rooms were right next to each other, it was pretty awkward.

"Hey, Leo." I smiled hopefully at my brother, my voice small. Maybe he'd be better now that he'd had a chance to sleep on everything that happened yesterday. Turns out I was wrong, 'cause Leo just replied with a glare before walking away. I see we're still in the silent treatment stage, then. I sighed and walked into the living room. I didn't say a word to Mom, who was in the kitchen, I just walked straight past her and went down to the lab. I spent almost the whole night last night down in the lab with Bree and we've ended up becoming really good friends. However, I refuse to talk to Adam or Chase. Mainly Chase. It's his fault Mom and Leo found out I'm bionic! If he'd never thrown that cardboard box at me, or told Adam to throw the deathly metal crate at me, or straight up said it, Mom and Leo wouldn't know I'm bionic and they wouldn't hate me! And as for Adam; I'm not as mad at him as I am Chase, but he was the one who threw the crate at me and almost killed me so I'm not his biggest fan at the moment.

"Okay, Chase, enemy grenade, three o'clock!" As I entered the lab, I witness Mr Davenport (I decided to call him Mr Davenport from now on instead of Donald, don't ask why, I just thought it sounded cooler) throw a glowing red ball type thing at Chase and Chase blocked it with his bionic force field.

"Hey, how come he gets a force field and I don't?" Adam whined. He and Bree were stood behind the desk.

"'Cause if you had one, I wouldn't be able to do this." Bree answered, throwing the water bottle she was holding at him. I giggled, which got everyone's attention.

"Soph!" Bree smiled, speeding over and giving me a hug.

"Bree!" I laughed, hugging her back.

"Okay, you guys take the rest of the day off. I'm gonna go speak at a tech conference 'cause I'm awesome, I'm gonna have the speedboats detailed and then I'm gonna go get waxed." Mr Davenport said, walking towards the door and we all looked weirded out by the whole waxing concept, "Don't judge me." He added before leaving, "Hi Sophia, bye Sophia." He said, walking past me and into the elevator.

"So how are things with Leo and your mom?" Bree asked me and I sighed.

"Not good. I tried to talk to Leo this morning but he just gave me a dirty look and ignored me."

"Oh, I'm sorry. But hey, they can't stay mad at you forever." She said, throwing a reassuring arm around my shoulders. I'm really starting to like Bree. She's an amazing friend and she's the only one who didn't make everything that happened yesterday worse, which I really appreciate.

"Yeah, I'm sure they'll come around eventually." Chase piped up. And then there's the people who did make everything worse... I glared at him, causing him to defensively ask, "What?!" I just rolled my eyes as I heard the elevator doors hiss and turned around to see Leo walk in.

"Mom says you have to get ready." He said, his tone cold and emotionless as he looked anywhere but at me.

"Okay, I'll be up in a minute." I said quietly. Leo said nothing and walked back to the elevator, which took him back upstairs. I let out a defeated sigh as I turned back to Bree.

"Hey, at least he spoke to you." She said optimistically.

"Yeah, only because Mom told him to come down and tell me to get ready. He didn't actually want to." I mumbled, "Anyway, I better get going."

"Wait, where are you actually going?" Adam asked.

"School." I replied shortly. As I said, I didn't hate Adam as much as Chase and I didn't mind talking to him, but I still wasn't happy with him.

Bree suddenly gasped, jumping around excitedly, "Oh, I've always dreamt of going to school! Passing notes, going to prom, breaking into choreographed dance numbers after math class..." She fantasised. I gave her a weird look. Clearly the only knowledge she has of high school is from watching movies like High School Musical.

"Yeah, all we do is eat, sleep and train for missions." Chase said and I had to force myself not to roll my eyes at him so much as opening his mouth, "We're like human lab rats."

"Oh, come on, it can't be that bad." I said. I heard squeaking and turned to see Adam running on a human-sized hamster wheel.

"Wait, so, you've never left this room?" I turned back to Bree who shook her head.

"I bet school's fun. Y'know, except for all the books, classes and learning stuff." Adam said, joining us after he finished his little rodent style workout.

"It's not fun when you're the smart kid." I claimed.

"Well, down here, being smart is considered superior." Chase said cockily. Adam and Bree looked at each other, then back at Chase.

"No it's not." They said in unison and I couldn't help but laugh.

I then got a genius idea and gasped, grinning at Bree, "Hey, you could come to school with me!"

"Seriously?" She asked with excitement.

"Yeah! You could be like my bionic bestie/bodyguard!" I squealed.

"Ooh, can we come too?" Chase asked on behalf of both himself and Adam.

"I suppose." I huffed, rolling my eyes as they fist bumped.

"Let's go!" Bree exclaimed.

"Not on my watch, laser brains!" That familiar, annoying electronic voice said before we had a chance to leave.

"Aw, shoot, we forgot about Davenport's creepy computer." Adam said.

"I thought that thing was just in the living room!" I exclaimed.

"Nope, I'm everywhere!" Eddy said in a tormenting voice.

"Even in my shower?!" I screeched, horrified.

"Yep! And by the way, nothing need's to be that clean, princess." Eddy said. I went bright red.

"Okay, we need to shut that thing off!" I yelled.

"Never gonna happen. Eddy is an incredibly complex and sophisticated piece of machinery. It would take years before-" Before Chase could finish his long-winded statement, Adam walked over to Eddy's control panel and ripped out his wires, shutting him down instantly.

"Sweet! I barely got electrocuted!" Adam grinned, "Okay, come on."

"Wait, if we're going to school, we're gonna need to shower, because two of us really stink." Bree said, eyeing her brothers as they sniffed their armpits and grimaced, making me laugh. The three of them went over to their capsules and it showered them, dried them and dressed them. Wow, I need to get myself one of those things, it would make getting ready for school on time a lot easier!

"Aw, I think I got your underwear." Adam said to Bree, moving around uncomfortably.

"Gross!" Bree cringed.

"What are you complaining about? I got the bra!" Chase groaned and I found myself laughing at them yet again. The boys went back into their capsules to fix their little wardrobe malfunction before we all left.

~~~
We walked into school and Adam, Bree and Chase looked around in amazement.
"I can't believe we're actually in school! I'm so excited!" Bree squealed, as a lunch lady passed by, "Oh, my first lunch lady!" Bree exclaimed, hugging her.
"She smelt like fish sticks..." Bree commented as I pulled her away from the poor woman.
"Okay, do me a favour and act like you've actually seen the world. I have a reputation to uphold." I smirked, trying to act cool, just before a jock walked by and knocked my books out of my hands.
"Good to see you too, Steve." I muttered sarcastically, bending down to pick up my books.
"Here, let me help." Chase said, bending down in front of me.
"I got it." I snapped, snatching my things from him as we both stood up. He looked quite taken back and I did feel a tiny bit guilty; my voice wasn't supposed to come out sounding quite so harsh, but that doesn't mean I forgive him for turning my family against me.
"Hi, I'm Bree! I liked ponies and girl things!" Bree happily chirped to a group of girls who just looked creeped out as they walked away, but Bree didn't seem phased as she continued to ramble to me, "See that? I have friends. I can't wait to stab them in the back!" I couldn't help but chuckle at her. Suddenly, I was grabbed by the arm and dragged away from Bree.
"Hey, what the- Leo?" I was surprised to see him doing so much as look at me.
"What the heck is wrong with you?!" He whisper-yelled and I looked at him in confusion as he pointed at Adam, Bree and Chase, "What are they doing here?!"
"Oh, them? They wanted to come to school." I shrugged.
"Are you crazy?! What if they use their bionics? Anyone could see them!"
"Yeah, but I needed some friends, seeing as my only friend hates me now." I muttered the last bit and Leo's eyes softened, knowing I was talking about him. I waited for him to say something, but he didn't.
"That's what I thought." I mumbled, walking away.
"What was that all about?" Bree asked.
"Nothing." I said quietly. The bell rang and Chase screamed, falling to the floor. He put his hands over his ears and he rolled around like a lunatic.
"What's up with crazy?" I asked, looking at Adam and Bree.
"He has ultra sensitive bionic hearing." Bree explained.
"What was that?!" Chase panted when the bell stopped and he finally calmed down, sitting up.
"That was the bell, idiot. It rings every forty minutes, twelve times a day, so... Have fun with that." I smirked, before going to class.
~~~

I was in gym class with Adam, Bree and Chase, sat on the bleachers while the rest of the class played basketball. Ugh, I hate gym class. Even with my super agility, I suck at sports.

"Hey, Sophia, can I talk to you?" Chase asked from where he was sat next to me. I thought it over before slowly nodding.

"Fine, anything to get out of basketball." I said and Chase cracked a small smile. We snuck out of the gym without the coach noticing and stood by some lockers in the hallway.

"So... What do you want?" I asked, clearly unhappy as I crossed my arms over my chest. I didn't want to speak to him, but as I said, anything would be better than humiliating myself on the basketball court.

"Well, um... It's just that... Well, I get the feeling that you don't like me."

"Why would you ever think that?" I looked at him, sarcasm oozing from my voice.

"Maybe because whenever you speak to me it's like you're spitting venom at me?" He replied just as sarcastically.

"Yeah, well, it's not like I don't have a reason." I shot back.

"But you don't have a reason!" He cried. I scoffed.

"You're unbelievable."

"Me?! You're the one hating me when I haven't even done anything!" He said angrily.

"Yes you have!"

"What, then? What have I done that's caused you to treat me like trash?!"

I gave him the worst death glare I could muster, "You wanna know?"

"That would be nice."

"Alright, fine... THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT! It's your fault my family hates me! If you'd never thrown that stupid box at me, or got Adam to throw that metal crate, which almost killed me if you even care, or if you hadn't straight up told my mom and Leo that I'm bionic, they wouldn't have found out, they wouldn't be ignoring me and I'd still have a family that loves me! But no! Thanks to you, they probably don't even want me anymore! That's why I didn't want them knowing about my bionics in the first place! I mean, you know I'm adopted, right? And now thanks to you and your big mouth blowing my secret, my adoptive mother is probably looking for an orphanage to dump me in right as we speak!" By the time I'd finished my rant, I felt tears stinging my eyes but I bit the inside of my cheek hard to keep them in. I was not going to cry in front of him. I saw the sheer guilt in Chase's eyes but walked away before another word could be said. He deserves to feel guilty.

~~~
It was now several hours later and I was stood in the gym with Adam and Bree waiting for the pep rally to start. I wasn't even mad at Adam any more. After getting to know him, I realised he was kinda like a clueless little puppy, in a good way, of course, and he was just doing what as he was told when Chase got him to throw the crate at me, because he's not the brightest star in the sky and wasn't thinking when he almost killed me and exposed my bionics. According to Bree, not thinking is quite common for Adam and you just have to accept that. So, I forgave him and now we're friends. As for Chase, well, I've barely even looked at him since I exploded at him during gym class. What bugs me the most is that he hasn't even tried to say sorry. Now that he knows what he's done, the least he could do is apologise, then I might find it easier to forgive him, but no. Instead, he's done nothing.
"Attention, students! The pep rally is starting!" Principal Perry announced over the loudspeaker as Chase walked in.
"Where were you?" Bree asked.
"Computer lab, taking med courses. Guess who just became a chiropractor in the Philippines?" He smirked. I just rolled my eyes at him and continued to watch the cheerleaders. I watched for about five minutes before someone tapped my shoulder. I turned around to see Chase and I rolled my eyes again.
"Do you mind? I'm trying to watch." I said coldly.
"Can we talk?" He asked me, ignoring what I said.
"Nope."
"Sophia, please." He begged.
"Ugh, fine, but make it quick." I huffed. Chase gave me a small smile as we walked over to a more secluded part of the gym.
"Look, I just want to start of by saying I'm really sorry. I never meant to make Leo or your mom mad at you. I was just amazed that there was someone else out there with bionics. I though Adam, Bree and I were the only ones, and so when I met you, I got excited. I really wasn't thinking when I tried to show Mr Davenport. I'm really sorry and I hope you can forgive me because...you seem like a really awesome girl and I really want to be friends." He looked at me with hope in his hazel eyes. I spent a few minutes thinking it over, before I cracked a smile.
"I suppose it could find it in my heart to forgive you." I said, figuring that life was too short to hold grudges and Chase did seem really sorry.
"Really?" He asked, his face lighting up like a lamp.
"Yeah, I mean, we all do things without thinking sometimes and it's not like you intended to make them mad at me. And maybe, if I'd just told them about my abilities before, they might not hate me as much as they do now..."
"Oh, come on, I'm sure they don't hate you. Sure they might be angry at you for not telling them, but it'll work itself out." Chase said.
"I hope so. I can't stand the thought of them never speaking to me again." My voice cracked as my eyes glazed over with tears.
"Hey, don't cry." Chase said softly, his eyes now full of sympathy.
"Sorry, I-I just..."
"I know, it's okay." He wrapped an arm around me and for some reason, butterflies filled my stomach as he did so. I could've just crumbled right then and there and cried in Chase' arms, but a public meltdown wasn't what I needed right now so I sniffled and wiped my eyes, pulling myself together.
"I'm sorry too."
"What are you sorry for?" Chase frowned.
"For being so bitter towards you. I shouldn't have held such a grudge. I guess I can be kinda stubborn sometimes." I said and Chase chuckled.
"Don't worry about it, you had every right to hold a grudge." He said and I smiled up at him. Suddenly, the school mascot, Dewey Dingo dragged Adam passed us by his foot and Chase and I shared a worried, but slightly amused look. Adam managed to break free and get up, but as he did, I saw his eyes start to glow red.
"Uh, Chase, why are Adam's eyes turning red?"
Chase looked at Adam and his own eyes widened, "Oh no! His heat vision!"
I looked at Chase in alarm, "His what?!"
"It's a glitch! Whenever Adam gets too upset, his heat vision acts up!" Just as Chase said that, fire shot out of Adam's eyes and Dewey's head burst into flames. Some random guy with a fire extinguisher put it out, but Dewey was still in shock and started running around like a mad man (or dog) towards the cheerleaders.
"Watch out!" One of the cheerleaders yelled, running away from Dewey. The girl they had thrown in the air only seconds before now had no one to catch her.
"I got her!" Bree said, super-speeding over, but missing the poor girl and making her fall flat on her face. I winced as I heard her hit the floor.
"Oops, sorry! But don't worry, I know a chiropractor in the Philippines!" Bree said. Me and Chase shared a look and chuckled as Bree ran off. Everyone was running around like headless chickens from all the chaos, so Chase tried to step in.
"People, people, statistics show that if we don't panic, at least 70% of us will make it out alive." He said, but everyone just kept screaming and running around. They all ran out of the gym as the doors opened and the two people we least wanted to see walked in. Mom and Mr Davenport.
"Oh no! They killed Dewey Dingo!" Mom frowned, looking at the girl who was wearing Dewey's suit but not the head. The two adults looked at us and we all just kinda smiled, looking as innocent as possible.
"So," Davenport started calmly before screaming, "HOW WAS SCHOOL?!" We all smiled and gave him either a thumbs up or a nod, trying to ignore the fact that he was fuming with anger.
"GET IN THE HELICOPTER!" He hollered and we all ran for it.
