Chapter 2
"Here are the most recent ones I've been receiving," Audrey told me as I looked at her emails. "They've all been speaking of threats and such."
I clicked through each and every message. My eyes flicked back a forth between the main words that repeated themselves: threat, immunity, and even antidote. Something odd that was about these emails was that they were in in note-taking format.
Everything on it was either in a short, non-completed phrase, or it was just bullet pointed. It was definitely strange, but what made me question it more was the links. They were all from Youtube, and I'm guessing they led to a threat video or something of the sort.
"Do you have any idea on who this could be?" I asked. "One of our enemies? A well known hacker? A troublesome friend?"
She merely shook her head. "I have no clue as to who this person could be," she replied. "The username doesn't give anything away either."
I looked at who sent the message, and she was right. Nothing at all about it gave anything away. In fact, it literally was a do not reply email. Wait a second. A do not reply user?
"Well, it gives us one thing," I pointed out as I clicked the user. "If it's a do not reply user, then it's most likely from a university or something along the lines of an administrator's email."
Audrey's eyes widened at my findings. The realization of it even shook me a bit. University labs were very common for creating viruses both online and as in a disease. What I wondered was why did a university want to create a virus? But most of all, what kind of virus were these emails speaking of?
As I clicked the user, my mind couldn't comprehend what I was seeing. The user was from a very popular college. In fact, most of our agents are alumni from this very university. The picture of the person's profile was of the main building for the University of Harvard.
"This person is either someone from this place, or is a very well-experienced hacker to be in a Harvard account," Audrey spoke.
"Indeed," I agreed. "Mind if I do some hacking myself on your computer?"
"Do what you must, Marie," she responded. "We need to find out who's behind these.... occurrences."
I then took out the coding page for the person's profile. I typed and typed away as I was slowly able to track where this user was last able to hack. It turned out, this guy's last location was literally tracked into a phone, which was last located in the administrator's office before turning off.
I then decided to hack into the university's camera system. It turned out that the administrator was in his office while this person was hacking into his computer.
"Huh," I said. "This person used their phone to hack into the administrator's computer, but they were also in the administrator's office with him. How strange."
"Maybe it's an error in the coding," Audrey said. "Because the phone was connected to the computer, it might see it as being in the room with it."
I nodded slowly in agreement. This was already getting interesting in the first ten minutes of investigating. So we already know that this person was probably a student in the university, but that still left thousands of students to check out.
I pinched the bridge of my nose to try and subside a headache that was forming. Did Dr. Skyler want me to go insane from this damn investigation. Maybe I could ask our professionals to keep searching through student profiles. Then maybe I'll be able to see the "virus" part of this strange occurrence.
"If you're getting stressed by this," Audrey then said, as if reading my mind. "Maybe you could get Paul and Polina Tavix to finish the job."
"I was just thinking that idea," I replied. "Think Nick Skyler would let me do that?"
"I don't see why not. I'm sure he wouldn't want you going insane by this."
I weighed out my options. This would get the job done faster, but I wouldn't get the full credit. Then again, would it really be that logical if I went insane for a stupid piece of paper? I'll go with choice one.
"Alright," I said while leaving her computer. "I'll talk to the Tavix twins."
I thanked her for showing me the email and letting me hack with her computer, and I was off to the fifth floor to speak to the hacking masters of the agency.
