7 - Mistakes

The best part about having magic is waking up early to practice and staying up till midnight so you're always exhausted by the end of the day. I was joking, that was the worst part of having magic. I kept asking mom when I would be able to leave to find the rest of the team and countless times she would reply with 'when you're strong enough.'

The only thing I was looking forward to today was my magic lesson. Today mom was going to try and strength my power. In the beginning of practice mom taught me how to make self defense shields and balls of magic energy that would knock anyone out for hours. At first my energy balls were weak and couldn't go that far. Mom was able to catch them but she assured me that with practice they would get much stronger.

For the whole day I practiced making my magic stronger. It's wasn't until five that mom told me how strong I was. "Ty, with how hard you've worked, on three weeks you've gotten up to level two which is great." She said but I felt like she was just saying that and that level two wasn't that great. After that we took a break and had dinner with Ellie. It was a quiet half normal family dinner. Mom let me go to bed early because she said we were going into town tomorrow and I need some rest, so I trudged my way up the stairs and down the hallway to my bedroom. I looked out the window in my bedroom, my view extended until I could see the castle. it wasn't had to miss it practically glowed compared to the rest of the town. everything was quiet and I couldn't hear any mobs, even with enchanted hearing. Being a Hybrid meant some of my abilities were sharper than peoples but it also depended on the mob. I had been trying to naturally improve my hearing and seeing because I thought they would prove to be more helpful in a battle. I know I'm only seven but I sure don't feel like it. I often wondered if I would ever feel normal, or ever experience a proper childhood.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a shadow jumping from one roof to another roof. My eyes locked onto their target and I followed his patterns until my mind clicked with someone who had very similar technique. I couldn't place a name to the figure but my gut knew I had to follow them. I heard my mom coming up the stairs, I didn't have time to think about what I was doing. I flung the window open and looked down. Bad idea, my knees locked and I was backing up to the safe floor. My heart was beating a million miles per hour. I had to get out of the house before I lost the figure. It was now or never; with a shaking body I took and deep breath and jumped. When I landed I silently thanked Notch then darted into the dimly lit city. I knew that if I ever went back home anytime soon I would be in so much trouble. I had to follow my gut now. I ran past the castle and before I knew it I was coming up on the back gate which had a small hole at the bottom, big enough for one to escape.

I dove under and looked around, my eyes adjusted to the dark and then the world turned green. It was the latest thing that my mom taught me, it was made specifically  to enhance a persons night vision . The color?, oh it was nothing special I guess it was just the color of my powers. I found the figure hiding behind a tree but before I could reach him my head exploded in pain. I toppled over clutching my head as my vision blurred. I heard the mans footsteps approach me and I quickly jerked my head up hissing at him. I found fangs in my mouth and felt whatever was gripping my head to grow sharp. I pulled my hands away and saw that they had become claws, the same as my feet. I tumbled back in surprised and then felt pain erupting in my back, I turned my head back and saw two enormous black wings start to grow out. Something thumped on the ground and I found a long black tail. I was panting hard but I had gotten use to pain and surprisingly after the transformation that just occured nothing hurt.

Something was wrong though. I couldn't control myself, I saw everything but my body just would not react. I flew up in the air as if I had don't this thousands of times before. In my head I was throwing up, knees buckling trying my best to go on the ground. At first my mind was so afraid that it overpowered this beast, but the beast was smart and knew that overall it was stronger. So using its willpower it flew up higher and let out a terrifying roar. Great, I thought. The whole village had to hear that. The man I was originally chasing had dismissed himself from the problem but he didn't flee, I couldn't find his scent. Only magic particles left behind and they were thin. Not a lot of sorcerers would be able to see or smell them.

I quickly realized that my worst nightmare had come true: Enderlox.

I don't remember much, everything because it was all blurry but I head some kind of alarm ring and people shouting. Then I swooped down to the ground, enough for the people of the village to see me then  Enderlox flew us high into the air and disappeared into the night, and me? I blacked out.

I shouldn't have run away I should've stayed with mom. I don't know how to control myself or anything. I can't go back now though. With my luck Enderlox is going to drag me to the depts of the Nether. I didn't know anything about him, I didn't know how to stop him either. Heck, I was blacked out. I was weak and useless.
