6 - Sword

That night I didn't sleep well. Mom came home really late and stayed up talking to Ellie. I tried to listen but they must have known I was awake. I tossed and turned all night until midnight when mom came in my room. I tried my best to pretend that I was sleeping but that plan failed when mom sat on floor in front of my face. "Ty." She spoke softly, not like she was mad or hiding anything. I opened my eyes and waited for her to speak first. "Mallory and Cheyenne weren't Ellie's kids. They were kids that we had found in the woods, their parents had died and they were living with their grandparents." By now I was full awake and listening. "The grandparents asked if we would take care of the kids. We couldn't refuse so we've had them for two years and today I took them back." I took in all of the new information. I couldn't believe that mom and Ellie had been lying to me. It would have been better for them to tell me the truth.

I got up early that morning and went down into the basement punching in the three green book to get into training room (as I called it). I was surprised it to find it completely empty but at the same time it didn't bother me, I wanted to be alone.

After about an hour of practice I was only able to accomplish the teleport spell, and I could only go a few blocks away from where I started. "Ty?" A voice called out and immediately I knew it was my mom. "Down here!" I called back. She came over to me and looked around. "What have you been practicing?" She asked. I was afraid that she would be mad but her voice was calm as she looked around, probably to look for damage. "oko." I said putting all of my concentration into the spell. I appeared behind mom in a split second. She turned around surprised. "You learned how to teleport. That's amazing. We will have to strength your skill so you can go farther but I'm very proud of you Ty!" She exclaimed, I smiled.

After countless hours of practicing we finally took a break. I learn how to speak some small magic words like my name. Mom explained that if you ever think that you've met a sorcerer you can talk to them in that language and that's how you form a trust. We had made a chart to be more organized about practice. The chart stated what we would learn or practice on a certain day. Mom was concerned about me not knowing how to properly fight in case I was too tired to use magic so we also adding sparing lessons to the chart. For the next three days I would be learning the basics of sword fighting and finding out what blade fit me the best.

The next day mom had serval different swords laying on the floor when I walked in. Some were small, some were long blades and some were regular swords. She went down the line and started naming the swords. The first one was a short sword, she said it would fit my height but we would have to balance out the weight. Next, the falchion. It looked like the typical sword you would normally see but it was much shorter. My mom said that she thought that it would be a good sword for me to use. After that came a broadsword and a saber. The broadsword was long and thin, the saber was long, thin and had a swirl to it like a normal sword curves out. We also looked at the rapier, long sword and a jain. The rapier and long sword were almost the same height with the long sword being longer. The rapier looked like a nice option but so far none of the swords looked like one I would enjoy. The jain looked like a stick made out of some type of metal. Finally mom showed me the last two. One was a dao sword which I had never heard of and the last one was a scimitar sword.

We went over the damage and how to hold all of them. None of the blades fit right except one, but I didn't say anything because mom said it was a horrible sword for me to use and train. "So, Ty, see any you like." I sighed and looked down the line there were so many to choose from. "I have a few in mind." I confessed. She nodded, "Okay, pick them out and we will talk about them." I went down the line from beginning to end and picked out the four swords that were easiest for me to use. The first one was the short sword, then the falchion, next came the scimitar and finally the dao. Mom looked at the four swords I picked out then started talking about the short sword. "The short sword is a very common sword, it is many children's first sword, as they grow older however very few keep it as a main weapon. For you I think it would be perfect, we would obviously have to make some changes but every sword is unique in that way." I nodded, waiting for her to go on to the next sword. "The falchion is a much less common sword but it has the style of very common sword that most people use. It's a very easy sword to learn but it's not a very comfortable sword. Your hand will cramp many times and often have to fight through pain from your sword." After mom finished talking about the falchion, it didn't seem like a very good choice so I put it back in the pile. She sighed when she got to the scimitar. "The scimitar is the most commonly used for adults. It's easy after you learn how to use it. It's very light and easy to carry around but major customization would have to happen for you to use it." I bit my lip and put the sword back. I had my heart set on using the dao but I knew mom would most likely make me use the short sword at first. When she approached the dao she took a deep breath. "The dao is almost a one of a kind sword. It's hard to learn in a short amount of time and the sword can not be made, it has to be found in places like dungeons, the Nether, Athena, or the End. The sword is basically indestructible, it only has one weakness; obsidian." I looked at the sword. Something was drawing me to it. "I want the dao." I said almost instantly after she finished talking. She turned her head to me. "Are you sure, Ty?" I nodded. "Yes." She nodded as she got up. "Okay, get your sword, lets customize it." I went to pick up the sword but something else happened. The sword glowed a dark purple as I touched it, it turned into an obsidian blade with a comfortable black wool handle. The blade adjusted to my size and the weight was perfectly balanced. I immediately dropped the blade and scattered back. My mom turned around shocked. "Tyler! What did you do?!" I couldn't speak I was in shock. "I-I don't know." She went up and carefully picked up the blade, it had turned to the same old rusted metal with the wooden handle, but etched into the handle with green thread was the word 'ifun loch.' I immediately translate the magic word into Enderlox. "Pick up the sword, Ty." She said handing it to me. I placed a finger on it and it turned back into the obsidian sword, the word 'ifun loch' was still etched in with green thread on the handle. "Amazing." She mumbled and quickly went to write it down in a book.

We figured out that the sword was meant for me, well the Enderlox side of me. It was specially crafted in the End we had guessed. We did lots of test until I was worn out, but the good news? I had found my sword. One I would never have to change and keep a close eye on.
