4 - Magic
"Ty!" my mom called out opening the wooden door to the study. I looked over at her. "Yeah?" I asked closing the book once more. I had done more reading and tried to code some of the coded messages. I hadn't gotten far. "Let's go home, the library closes at four everyday except Saturday and Sunday." I nodded getting out from my seat. "Can I take the book home with us?" I ask. She stops in her steps. "Magic gives off a lot of power, you don't understand right now but if we used this book people will feel it. It too dangerous." Mom explains I frown and put it on the bookcase. "Do I have magic? Am I apart of the prophecy?" Mom's eyes widen at me. "Do you have magic? I-I don't know uh you could, it's very possible with you magical name but I'm not positive. If you do I need to start teaching you immediately. And if you are apart of the prophecy again I would have to do some more research." I nod slowly. "Well I met Sky, he's part of the prophecy and he thought I was part of the prophecy." My mom tilts her head slightly, her eyebrows burrowed slightly. "Sky? The little boy who dresses in all black and has the sunglasses?" I nod again. "He has magic, a very strong magic, I could feel his magical energy. If he thought you were part of the prophecy then it's a high possibility that you are. We should go home to talk more about this." I follow as she leads me out of the library and into the slightly crowded streets. Her house is in the middle on the west side of the village. The library is more towards the middle and the walk isn't too bad. Mom promises me that some days she rides the horses around the village to go to work or to the market and that she would teach me.
Her house looks to be about two stories and is built out of wood and cobblestone. Some of the more expensive houses around us are built with fancy stone but my new home looks perfect for me. Mom tells me that we have a basement where she practices magic since the magic aurora isn't as strong high in the air like in mountains or under the ground. Once walking in I find peace and quiet and figure that she lives alone. But why would she have such a big house then? "Do you have a family?" I asked as she closed the door behind me. "I don't have a husband but my sister and her two kids live here with me." She explained. I nodded. "Where are they?" I looked around the house. "They usually get home four thirty or five." I examine the first room we just walked into. It was like a sitting room but it could have been the living room. It had white stained clay walls with big pictures on almost every wall. There were potted plants in the corner and on the same wall was a big T.V. In front of the T.V. was a nice big couch and two chairs. There was a black rug in the middle and on the other side of the room was the kitchen. My mom smiled at me as she saw me looking around in awe. "Do you like it?" She asked. I nodded. "It's great." She chuckled. "Thank you, Ty. Want to see your room?" I nodded. She led me upstairs and showed me around. My room was the last on the left, it was dressed like a guest room but she said we could customize it later. Next she took me downstairs to the basement. Once you enter it looks like a regular game type room or an office.
She led me around a corner where there was a huge bookcase was on the wall. Punching in three green books one book apart in the middle bookcase was the secret into her cave. There was a soft glow from a few redstone lights. In the middle was an enchantment table surrounded by more bookcases. On the wall, swords, bows and armor all enchanted. I stared in awe at them. Mom chuckled, "These are my personal weapons and armor, for the day the prophecy comes true, if I'm still alive I'll fight." She examined her work fondly. "So can you find out if I'm in the prophecy or if I have magic?" I asked. She sighed. "Well if you have magic I would've sensed it by now, you very well might have it and it just hasn't been awoken or maybe the magic from your name is what I feel because when I'm around you there is a buzz of energy waiting to explode. There is definitely something about you that involves magic." She stated, I already knew what she was about.
Enderlox
"Enderlox." I said quietly. She looked over at me. "What?" She asked. I repeated myself. "Enderlox. That's the magic you feel. It's my dragon side." I don't know why I was spilling everything I was suppose to keep a secret but something told me that she would find out if I told her or not. "Your dragon side? Like a hybrid?" She was opening a book and rapidly flipping pages. "I-I don't know. All I know is that my eyes turn purple with my headphones and I grow claws, a tail and fangs. I've never witnessed it though. I was told about it." She was silent and I was getting ready to run for my life but then she spoke. "Two-face." I looks at her like she was crazy. "You're in the prophecy Ty! 'Two-face nears death'! That's you. Enderlox and Deadlox! I understand the meaning of your name now!" She exclaimed. I was in the prophecy? I was the one Sky was looking for. "I-I'm in the prophecy." I said quietly. "Yes! I have to train you immediately! We'll home school you, once we starting training there isn't going back." I nodded excitedly. "Yes! Teach me everything!"she smiled.
The door opened behind us and I jumped turning around to face a woman, she looked a year or two younger than my mom and they looked like sisters. "Robyn! There you are!" My mom- whose name I just found out was Robyn- stopped doing magic and walked towards her sister. "Ellie, what's wrong?" Ellie closed her eyes. "The King is doing another stupid count of the people." I could tell that Ellie didn't like the king that much. My mom paled. "No, not with Ty here. That can't happen." Ellie looked past my mom and looked at me, my confused expression smiled slightly and waved. "Hi." I said quietly. "Who's this Ty?" My mom stopped her sister from going anywhere. "Ellie, it's okay. I'm going to adopt Ty." Ellie kept staring at me. "Why is he down here?" Mom kept trying to calm her down. "He's magical-" Robyn would start. "He's going to get us killed!" Ellie would finish.
After a while Ellie finally agreed to me staying after she heard about me and the prophecy. It was a relief because I didn't want to go back to that tree house tonight. Turned out that Ellie could shape shift and she had two kids, a boy and girl. The girl was named Mallory and the boy was Cheyenne. They were a year a part with the boy being older and the sister had some magic. Ellie went back upstairs to start on dinner and explain the new situation to Mallory and Cheyenne.
Mom said I couldn't go to school and go outside that much. It didn't really bother me, but I knew deep down that something back was going to happen to this family.
That night we started training me and awakening the magic in me. I tried my best but I was worried about Sky. I knew he could handle himself but I wanted to help. I had to find him. We stared training with simple spells. The first one I learned was going invisible and turning things invisible without a potion. Mom said that it had saved her many times when the sorcerers were being killed. "Repeated after me." My mom instructed me as I looked in her book. "Airi!" She said confidently. When I looked up she was gone, no potion effects followed her. "Woah." I stood up and repeated the word. "Airi." Nothing happened. I looked down and still saw my body. I frowned, "Why didn't it work?" Mom snapped her fingers and became visible again. "You didn't use any power, the magic isn't responded to you yet because it's not fully awake. It hasn't woken up yet." She explained. Flipping through her book she was carefully studding the pages. "Maybe we should do something simpler. Just to get you booted up." She bookmarked a page then closed the book. "Point your finger at the book and say: ìmo." The book opened to the first page. "A simple opening spell." She explained closing the book again. I looked at the book, pointing my pointer finger at the book and concentrating I said, "ìmo." The book started to open but I jerked my hand away and lost concentration. The book closed again. My smile changed to a frowned as my mom laughed softly. "It's okay, you almost got it. Just remember not to loose focus until the spell is complete." I nodded turning my attention back to the book and redoing the spell. This time completing it, the book flipped open to the first page and I smiled. I looked over at my mom who was smiling and nodding. "Good job. We can move forward in training now." She wrote my progress down in a leather notebook. I yawned and I realized that it had to be at least midnight. She chuckled. "Come on, Ty, let's go to bed." She brought me upstairs and tucked me in bed then left, closing my door behind her.
I still didn't put all of my trust in her. I didn't want to be let down again, but boy oh boy it sure did feel good to sleep in a bed. I drifted asleep that night with worry, magic; kings; Prophecy. They were clouding my mind and I knew there was something wrong in this village, and I intended to fix it. With or without anyone's help.
