CONRAD WATCHED as Olivia's smile had quickly dropped once she saw Jeremiah and Belly making out on his car.
All Conrad did was clear his throat and Belly and Jeremiah sprang apart.
Jeremiah's eyes bounced back and forth between Olivia and Conrad, "Liv."
Olivia only shook her head before turning away. Of course she didn't know where she was going, but getting lost sounded a lot better than being around the guy who, not even a week ago, said if he could kiss her he didn't know if he could stop, said that she didn't have to hurt herself for his attention, was there for her on the beach.
So, maybe she was feeling a type of way when she say Jeremiah making out with Belly on Conrad's car. How could she not?
She felt fucking stupid... she felt really fucking stupid.
"Olivia."
She only turned because it was Jeremiah and she would be damned if she became lost on this huge campus.
"Olivia." Conrad called once more, "I'm sure—"
"No." She sighed, shrugging her shoulders, "He has every right to be with Belly, you know. I mean, what am I to him?"
Conrad only licked his lips and looked down at the girl who ran her fingers through her hair.
Conrad knew from Olivia's drunken confession that Jeremiah had said something about not stopping himself if he could kiss her. So he knew that was probably that main factor of how she was currently feeling.
But deep down, he really felt like Olivia had been angry at the fact that it was her with Jeremiah. That she had to watch Belly making out with Jeremiah inside of her being in Belly's place.
"I just... I don't understand." She muttered, "How does he go from saying the most Wattpad, made for TV movie ass lines to me to kissing his ex on someone else's car."
Conrad stepped forward, "I'm sorry, Liv. I really am."
Olivia shook her head, resting her hands on her hips, "It's whatever, Conrad. Truly whatever. I don't even want to fucking talk about." She bowed her head, "Why am I so mad?" She laughed, "Literally what the fuck?"
Maybe because it felt like it had once before. Just when she felt like she could even get her friendship/relationship back with Jeremiah, he goes and fucks with Belly.
She spent the majority of her last summer pining after her own boyfriend just to lose him to a girl he's known all his life.
She couldn't be and would never be Belly and something about that would always bother her.
If Conrad, God, if Conrad had broken up with Olivia to be with Belly like Jeremiah had done she would completely call off love all together.
Her entire summer last year had been Belly, Belly, Belly, and she'd be damned if she put herself through that again.
Olivia looked up, Conrad seeing her face for the first time in a few minutes. Her face glowing red with anger and her eyes glossing over. She should never, ever, have to feel the way about a boy, about anyone, and yet, here she stood in front of her ex-boyfriend, almost crying about her ex, ex-boyfriend.
"Don't you have a dorm to clean out, Mr. Stanford?" She asked.
"Liv—"
"Come on." She spoke, "Take me to the dorm, Mr. Fisher."
Conrad only nodded, making his way to his dorm with Olivia following behind him.
It had been the two of them for a while, cleaning his side of the room in silence until his roommate, Trusky entered, smiling at the sight of Conrad.
"Conrad, you're back." He smiled, "Conrad... you're back... and you brought a friend."
Conrad turned from his desk, looking over at Olivia before looking at Trusky, "Mmm-hmm. This is Olivia."
Trusky smiled, "You're the Olivia?" He laughed, "God, you had my boy going through it sometimes. He once—"
"Dude." Conrad muttered.
Olivia cleared her throat, grabbing a box before facing Conrad, "I'm gonna take this to the car."
"You sure you want to go alone?" He asked.
"Gonna have to sit in the car with him for hours anyway, might as well go now." She turned, facing Trusky, "Nice to meet you."
He sent the girl a wave as she left the room, Conrad watching as she walked out the door.
He moved as quickly as possible, knocking a calendar off of his desk. He bent down to pick it up, completely ignoring Trusky's commentary in the background. He grabbed the calendar and underneath it laid the necklace he'd given Olivia.
He held it in his hands for a moment before sliding it into his pocket, he waved his old roommate goodbye, never to see him again truly, and making his way to the car.
He was able to catch up to Olivia. Jeremiah pushed himself off Conrad's car as he spotted Olivia red-hair flowing behind her as she made her way towards the trunk of the car.
"Liv—"
"Can we stop by a gas station?" She asked, "I could really use a Red Bull or those Mountain Dew Energy drinks. I heard they're pretty good."
"Olivia." Jeremiah called.
"I'm okay, Jere." She smiled, resting her hand on his arm, "You're free to do whatever you want, with whoever you want. Come on, we've got a long drive."
She brushed past the duo and Conrad approached, placing another box in the trunk of the car before shutting it.
"You heard her." He smirked, "We've got a long drive."
And with that, they were back on the road. The car was silent other than Conrad's humming to the song on the radio.
Olivia had picked her book back up, her music playing their her AirPods as she read over the line, "We've all heard the stories about Kavinsky and Gen's sex life, how they did it in Steve Bledell's parents' bedroom at his last-day-of-school party, how she went on the pill in ninth grade."
Conrad tapped Olivia's shoulder, looking over with her smirk on his face. She took her AirPod out, the song, Distraction by Kehlani still blasting in her ear.
"My sweatshirt looks really good on you, Liv."
"Thank you, Conrad." She muttered, placing her book down to toy with the edges of sweatshirt, "I'm not cold anymore. You can have it back."
"Keep it." He smiled, "I got it in your size."
She picked her book back up, but Conrad continued, "I was gonna get you a Stanford one 'cause I, you know. But, uh... I don't see why I can't."
Conrad turned, leaning forward, "Oh, my God, so that was your first kiss as a couple again— No, no, no, no. 'Cause, Bells, what did you say to me last summer on the beach?"
What the hell did she tell him last summer? What the hell did Belly tell Conrad last summer?
"You said that you and Jere had kissed in the pool, right? A few hours after Olivia had broken up with him, yeah?"
Olivia looked up from her book. Had Jeremiah and Belly kissed right after they had broken up? She didn't want to believe it because that only meant that he didn't wait a second longer to be with Belly.
"I mean, I can't believe it." Conrad smiled, "Normally, you can't shut the fuck up about how many people you hook up with. Because last year, right after you and Belly broke up, it was seven. And that's not even including you, Belly."
"Shut up!" Jeremiah shouted.
"Yeah, don't be a dick." Belly added.
Conrad sat back, looking over at Olivia who peaked at him over her book.
"I just have one more question." He muttered, looking at Olivia, "Olivia, which one of us is a better kisser, me or him? Because, I mean, I would ask Belly, but I didn't kiss her in the pool after breaking up with my girlfriend."
"Leave her alone, Conrad." Jeremiah demanded.
Olivia nodded, placing her AirPod back into her ear. Her ears now filled with Tyler, The Creator.
I don't want to end this season on a bad episode.
FOR NOW, the group had been in a standstill on the highway. The rain and thunder growing worse and worse the longer they sat there.
Olivia decided that the music and reading wasn't helping with her mood and whatever the hell Conrad had been doing earlier.
She rested her head on the back of her seat, looking out the window at the rain and the car that sat still next to theirs.
She wished that she could get out and just stand it in.
"Fuck, it just added another half hour to our ETA." Jeremiah groaned.
"Oh, my God, seriously?" Belly asked.
"Maybe we should get off and take a back road or something?"
"Back roads will be worse." Conrad said, "Once the storm band passes by, the roads will start to clear up. And, plus, I'm having so much fun. I don't know about you guys."
"What do you want to do, Bell?" Jeremiah asked.
"Actually, I'm starving and I have to pee and I'd rather not drown in this car."
Jeremiah turned, looking over at Olivia who continued to stare out the window, "Liv?" He called.
She heavily sighed, looking over at him, "You we're gonna do whatever you want, Jere, but I'm also hungry."
Conrad smiled, leaning forward, "I changed my vote. I think having two girls mad at you is a natural disaster that I think we might want to avoid."
"Okay, great, right. I'll, uh, get off, I guess."
Jeremiah had gotten off and pulled into a random gas station. Belly was the first to get out of the car and Olivia slowly getting out and making her way into the small store.
She browsed the aisles and almost finding nothing that she wanted and if she had, they had nothing left inside of the box.
She groaned, playing with the ends of her wet hair just in time to see Conrad and Jeremiah standing over by the counter.
Olivia decided that if they had snacks in order that she'd get the drinks from the cooler.
"Are those for Liv?" Conrad asked, "A "please forgive me" gift?" He laughed, "You dated her for two years and don't know the candy she likes?"
"She likes Res Vines." Jeremiah muttered.
"Okay, Jere. Like I said, you dated her for two years... she likes Skittles, the wildberry ones if you want be accurate."
"Why do you even care?" Jeremiah asked.
"I don't."
"That's bullshit."
"What's bullshit is that you said you kiss her and she finds you and Belly on my car." Conrad muttered.
"You still want these?" The cashier asked.
"Ye-Yes, yes." Jeremiah stuttered.
Olivia stepped forward adding the drinks to the counter, "I'll be in the car."
"I tried to warn him." Conrad smiled, "You saw how angry she sounded."
"Why are you acting like this?" Jeremiah asked, his voicing raising an octave.
"Relax, you big fucking baby." Conrad scoffed, "I'm just messing with you."
"Nineteen seventeen." The cashier called.
"Here." Jeremiah said, pulling out his wallet, "Just keep, keep the change." Jeremiah grabbed the bag, turning to meet Conrad at the door, "Do you still like her? Is that why you're acting like this?"
Conrad chuckled, a low, knowing laugh. "Jere, do you really think I'd tell you if I did?"
Jeremiah clenched his jaw, feeling a mix of frustration and curiosity. He knew Conrad well enough to recognize that mischievous glint in his eye. Conrad was not about to spill his feelings, especially not in the middle of a convenience store.
"It's obvious that you don't." Conrad continued, "But, hey, maybe this is just the game you play."
"You boys hear they're shutting down the highway?" The cashier spoke, "There's a motel down the road if you need a place to bunk up."
"Thanks." Jeremiah muttered.
He and Conrad were soon out of the store, making their way back into the car. Jeremiah shudder at the coldness and passed the bag back to Olivia.
She smiled softly as she pulled the candy, the chips, and her drink out of the bag.
"Jesus, I haven't had these in a second." She smiled, ripping open the bag of Skittles.
Belly turned her head, seeing Jeremiah looking at Olivia through the rearview mirror.
"Is everything okay?" She asked.
"No." Jeremiah paused, "Uh, the highway's shutting down. The guy inside told us. Um, he said there was a motel nearby if we wanted to stay there, instead of here."
"Whatever." Conrad muttered.
"Fine by me." Belly added.
And soon, they found themselves in the motel, the four of the shivering from the cold and the fact that there was only one room for all four of them to share.
"We'll take it." Olivia said, stepping forward, "Thank you."
Conrad passed his card over and tossed the keys over to Olivia.
"You guys go ahead." He said.
"What are you gonna do?" Jeremiah asked.
"Just gonna make some calls. Didn't get a chance to say goodbye to anybody, so."
With that, Jeremiah, Olivia, and Belly all entered the room.
And of course, there was only one fucking bed.
