Chapter 6

The interview is almost there.
The most important part.
The part when I have to show myself to everyone.

I tried to remember my role.
I am a pretty girl from District 1 who cares only about her looks but can get deadly in the arena.

"It's time dearest, time to get you ready!" Pluto dragged me to a room where the team was getting me ready.

It took them an hour do it.
When I finally got to see myself, I was wearing a pink short dress which was showing off my whole legs. My hair was down in curls. I had short pink high heels.

I felt uncomfortable to show off that amount of skin.
"You have ten minutes." Someone said.
"You look beautiful, darling." Cashmere said.

I didn't feel beautiful. I knew that I forgot to puke my meals during the training.
"I need to go to the bathroom."

As soon as I locked myself in the restroom, I had to figure out a way to not get my dress dirty.
With all my strength I threw everything out to the toilet.
It didn't make me feel better however.
I couldn't breath and I felt like puking again.
"Two minutes." I heard someone saying.
Quickly I cleaned my face and went out of the room.

"Finally, let's go."
A man took me to behind the stage.
"After he introduces you, walk on the stage."
I nod and foucs on Caesar's words.
"Let's see if she does indeed shine, let's a have round of applause for Glimmer!"

I put on a bright smile and while laughing, I walked into a stage.
"Glimmer, your dress looks great!" He says.
"And it feels great too." I smile and make sure that I show my body to the audience.
Caesar wanted to touch the dress but I slapped his hand.
"Oh, I thought you meant-"
I laughed to get out of this awkward situation, the audience laughed too.
"Do it again."
I slapped his hand couple of times, my plan was working.
After that I sat down and I did my best not to show my pants.
"Tell me, why did you volunteer for the games?"
"I always wanted to be a part of this games."
"I see, and do you think you're ready?"
"Yes, Caesar I am very prepared." I smile confidently.
"A beautiful girl like you should have a boyfriend back home."
I immediately think of Luster, I smile by the thought of him. I suddenly feel more calm since I remain myself that he is counting on me.
"Yes, I have a lover back home." I reply.
"Can we know his name?"
"Luster."
"He must be a lucky boy then."
"Glimmer, the final question. How do you think, you can win?"
I look at him acting suprised.
"That's a secret darling."
He laughs and so does the audience.
"I just love that!"
"Have an applause for Glimmer!!"
He takes my hand and we both stand up. After the applause I get to leave the stage.

"You did great dearest!" Cashmere walked up to me.
"Thanks."
"It was good, you stayed with your role." Ruby added.

I sit on the couch and watch Marvel's interview. He acts much differently than off the stage, he suddenly became confident and talked about his passion for the games.
Then the other careers went by,
Clove, Cato, Marina and Max.
The interviews weren't interesting.
I took a nap after the redhead girl from District 5 had her interview.

"Glimmer, wake up!" Mravel shaked my arm.
I opened my eyes to see that everyone else was already gone.
"Huh?" I stretch my arms.
"You should go to sleep, tomorrow is a big day."
I nod and get up of the couch.
"Did anything important happened after District 5 girl's interview?" I ask.
"District 12 boy confessed his love for the girl from his District and she had a fire dress."
"Bunch of show offs." I roll my eyes.
"Glimmer?"
"Yeah?"
"Gloss said that District 12 lovers have a big chance of getting sponsors."
We both knew what that meant, she has a bigger chances of winning. That girl from 12 is again standing in my way.
"From all careers, you made the performance that can get us sponsors the most." He added.
Only I can get us sponsors, I have this weird power now. They need me, they won't kill me because without me no one will sponsor them.
"Cashmere wanted you to stick to your role, I think you know what that means."
Marvel then walked away.
Ofcourse I know what that means, it means I have to be the shallow, pretty girl from District 1 in order to survive. My only issue with it is that Luster wouldn't want me to do it but he knows what I have inside.

...

I go to my room and wash the make up off. I take a long shower and throw all my clothes in the corner of the room.
Tomorrow the game starts, the tributes will start dieing.
I took out the letter from Amy.
Here what it said,

Dear Glimmer,
If you're reading this it means that you are going on the arena tomorrow.
I want you to know that I am counting on you. The games can be unpredictable but whatever happens, I know that you will do your best.
No one deserves to win more than you do. And if you die (which won't happen), I'll make sure that you will be remembered.
I am betting on you,
Amy

I didn't know why, I started crying. I realized how much I miss home.
What would happen if I didn't volunteer?
No, I can't afford to think about that.
I have to win, whatever it takes I will come home.
For Luster and for Amy.

I take a hot bath.
I'm not going to be able to wash myself on the arena for weeks.
I take the bottle with pink soap. It smelled like roses and meadow. It felt great to have it on my skin. I then took the shampoo that smelled like berries and put it on my hair.
I spend couple of minutes, lying down with my eyes closed.

This is was my way to forget about the bad things and treat myself maybe for the last time.
