Chapter 16

I woke up surprisingly with no wounds on myself. Looks like Cato decided not to kill me.
"Here," Clove handed my a knife.
"Huh?" I got confused.
"I thought you would need it, I mean when Cato tried to attack you from close, you didn't have anything to defend yourself with since arrows work from distance." She explained.
Clove turned a bit red, as she said the next part.
"Also you mentioned, that in District 1 you give eachother gifts so-" she stopped for a second. "Just take it okay?!"
I giggled. Clove seemed to feel embarrassed because of giving me that, I think it was kinda cute.
"Thank you." I smile.
I attached the knife to my belt and made sure that it doesn't fall off.
"We're going to find some water." Cato stated.

We then began to walk around, there were many animals around us. Rabbits, squirrels and birds.

Cato was walking a little bit further from me and Clove so I could safely talk to her.
"Clove?"
"Yeah?"
"Do you-"
I hesitated with the question for a second.
"Do you miss Marvel or Marina?" I ask.
"A bit but that had to happen, sooner or later." "Better this way than if we had to kill them."
I nod, she wasn't wrong. This is Hunger Games after all, everyone dies, even your allies.

We spent the day walking around, it began to get darker.
"Over there!" Clove points at the ground.
There was a small river running next to us. It was much smaller than the one that we had seen before, I wouldn't be able to go into it.

"Better than nothing." Cato says.
We put the water in our bottles.
We chose to stay next to the place for the night.

I volunteered to keep the first watch when I did, I saw a small package from the sponsors coming.
Without a second thought, I ran up to it. But when I checked the inside, I found a shampoo.

I was confused at first but then I realized that this item can help me a lot.
I rushed up to the river and washed my hair with the shampoo.
I felt relieved, like I still had a chance to impress sponsors. I made sure for the cameras to catch me washing.

With that done, I waited for my hair to dry. I could finally do something helpful, I could finally get us gifts.

Later, my hair became very tangled up because of the washing. I had an idea and grabbed my arrow.
This wasn't the most comfortable solution in the world, but brushing my hair with an arrow will surely be remembered by the audience.

I feel a warm wind on my face, I don't know if it's a sign but it felt good.

When I was done, I put my hair in two  ponytails.
Knowing that my shift will end soon, I hide the shampoo in the backpack. I don't think Cato and Clove have to know about it.

...

"Where is it?!"
"Well, not here for sure!"
I woke hearing Cato and Clove fighting, I got up and checked what's going on.
"What's wrong?" I ask.
"The river is gone!" Clove explained.
I looked at the place where the river was yesterday. There wasn't a sign after it, like it never existed.
I felt my heart stopping.

Is it my fault?
Did the gamemakers deleted the river because they didn't like what I did?
But I did everything right.
I don't understand.

My thoughts were running around like crazy.
"It's a trap from the gamemakers, the river is probably somewhere else now." Cato stated.
We had no choice but to keep moving.
Our mistake was that we haven't filled all the bottles since we didn't expect for the river to disappear.

"Nice hairstyle." Clove told me.
"Thanks." I replied.

We then began to look for water again, I was glad that Cato didn't know about the gift or me washing my hair.
He would kill me if he found out that after me doing that, we lost our water source.
Although, I don't have any proof that I was the reason. Maybe the river had been changing places the whole time?
I remember they made something like that one time.

I take a deep breath and try to distract myself with hunting animals.

However, this became a problem too.
"We were walking for the entire day and we found no animals!" Clove complained.
"Gamemakers got rid of that too." Cato mumbled to himself.
Why are they doing this?
Suddenly, taking away our water and food. Maybe it's a part of the plan? To starve us?
"We still have some from past days." I say.
"True, we need to eat less from now on." Cato ordered.
It's true that we haven't been limiting ourselves when it comes to portions. Mostly because animals were everywhere but just water, we didn't predict that they were about to disappear.

I can't say that we're back where we started because when we started we had more.
Again, something happened that made us weaker. Something coused us to fail again.
Why? Are we playing this wrong?
We're doing all that they thought us about the games.

This day wasn't the most successful one, we ended nor founding a single thing.
In the end of the day, we ate some of the squirrel that we had left.
We shared some water and fell asleep.

Next day, I woke up by heat. The gamemakers changed the temperature, which was a problem because we were lacking water.

Our three was really annoyed by the turn of the events. We took off our jackets, since the heat was so big.
"We need to drink more." Clove said.
"But we're lacking on water, we can't just drink it all now!"
"The heat is unbelievable! Do you want us to die?"
Cato rolled his eyes and took out the water, he was thirsty himself.

Walking was exhausting in such weather, we kept stopping and drinking water.
Forest seemed to be the same with every mile, it's like we could pass the same place three times and not notice.

When we were about to go to sleep, we heard something we didn't want to hear.
"We're out of water." Cato stated.
We shared a look knowing that this is a horrible situation.
"Let's figure it out in the morning. Maybe some sponsors will help."
He said the last part while looking at me.
I didn't see it but I felt it.

I easily fell asleep this time, when I woke up, we heard our last hope.
