Chapter 6

He took a sip of water, swallowing the last bit of sandwich left in his mouth.

That was so awful! Wouldn’t have eaten if I wasn’t so hungry. He thought.

He raised his eyebrow as he saw her sucking her fingertips, savouring every bit of flavour left.

“So…” suddenly she started speaking. “Where are you off to?”

“I’m going to the South. What about you?” he asked her.

She looked at him and rolled her eyes. She said, “I’m a girl travelling alone. How can I tell you of my whereabouts?”

As his jaw fell at her answer she added, “Besides, it’s not safe for a girl to give away her details. You could stalk me for all I know.”

“But you just-“ he flailed his arms at the situation.

Calm down man. Just let it be. He told himself.

“But my train is at 2.00am,” she sunk into herself and pursed her lips.

“I have so much time to kill!” she added.

Suddenly she sat upright and said, “I know! Let’s go out for a walk!”

He turned towards her while she continued, “We’ll explore the town!”

He slightly laughed at her enthusiasm and shook his head at the absurdity. But watching her turn her while body towards him with stars twinkling in her big brown eyes, he realised she was serious.

“Wait. Are you serious?” he asked her.

She nodded with a tiny smile.

“Oh no!” he shook his head and his forefinger, on her face.

“Oh yes! Come on! It will be fun!”

“You find it unsafe to tell me where you are going, but you are willing to walk around this lonely town with me?”

She thought for about 2 seconds and said, “Yes.”

“Lady, I could even rape or kill you. If not me, I’m sure there are people in the town who are more than ready to do it,” he added and waited for her reaction.

“Hmm,” she thought for a moment and then said. “I have almost four hours to spare. So, if you aren’t coming with me, I’m going to walk out of here alone.”

He shook his head. She added, “And if anything happens to me, won’t you feel guilty?”

He stared at her in confusion.

“Think about it. I would have been okay if you had just come with me, than letting this innocent young lonely but beautiful girl go out there alone, on her own. Unprotected. Completely exposed to the devils of the society.”

His jaw dropped at her words. He shook his head and said, “Alright. Fine. I’ll come with.”

She smiled showing all her teeth and clapping her hands in excitement. As he watched her, she reminded him of a seal, but with blue hair and red headphones. Immediately, he shook his head to get rid of the image. He slapped his forehead with his palm as she grabbed her bag and stood up to leave.
