Chapter 9

Barry's POV

"Now...let's figure out why this is happening to you," Emma said smiling. She, Caitlin, and Dr Wells went into the room where they will be monitoring what is happening in my body.

"We're all set," Cisco said smiling. "A little padding. Just in case," Cisco said when he saw I was eyeing the boxes that were behind this treadmill that was supposed to 'handle' my speeds.

"Yeah...you sure about this Cisco?" I asked referring to the treadmill.

"Most home treadmills have a maximum speed of 12 miles per hour. This one has been 'Cisco'd'. Trust me. It can handle your speed," Cisco said.

"Okay...." I said. Cisco walked into the room Emma was in. I started running until I reached my top speed.

Emma's POV

"Heart rate, blood pressure, nerve conduction all normal. For Barry," I said.

"Brainwave function within standard limits," Dr. Wells.

"I told you the treadmill could take it," Cisco laughed.

"Caitlin, look at the glucose levels," I said.

"Oh, my God. Of course," Caitlin said.

"Right? It was so obvious," I said.

"Glucose levels," Dr. Wells said.

"Barry!" I said pressing the mic so he could hear me. "I think we know why you keep--" I said right when Barry passed out, "passing out."

Barry's POV

I groaned, and when I realized I was on the hospital bed, it hit me. "I passed out again?" I asked.

"Yup," Emma said popping the 'p'.

"Total metabolic failure brought on by acute hypoglycemia," Cisco said.

"So and I.V bag and I'm good to go," I said.

"Try 40," Emma laughed, sitting next to me on the hospital bed, her head resting on my shoulder.

"Guess you were thirsty," Cisco chuckled, "We're gonna need to fashion you a new diet based on your metabolic changes. I've done a few calculations. You need to consume an amount equal to roughly 850 tacos. Unless we're talking cheese and guac, which is like a whole other set of equations," Cisco said.

Emma laughed and I smiled. "For Mexican, I recommend Tito's," Emma said.

"On Bruckner Avenue? Best burritos in the city," a new voice said.

"Detective West," Dr. Wells acknowledged, "What brings you to STAR Labs?"

"When I couldn't find you at your lab, I started doing a little research. Turns out there's been reports of a red streak around the city, stopping muggers, rescuing people from burning buildings," Joe said sternly aiming his answer towards me.

"You two didn't tell him we were working together?" Cisco questioned.

"Um....no? I figured Barry would," Emma said now sitting up straight looking at me with her big brown eyes.

"Joe, I can explain," I said. Emma elbowed me and then I corrected, "We can explain."

"You two already have a job in law enforcement. I suggest you get back to it," Joe said.

"Mm-hmm," Caitlin said. Joe looked at her and she said

"Don't look at me. I'm on your side."

"Detective. We all want what's best for Barry," Dr. Wells said.

"If you wanted what was best for Barry, you'd try to talk him out of this lunacy instead of encouraging him going out there risking his life," Joe said angrily.

"You saw a man control the weather. What are the police gonna do against some like that?" Emma asked.

"Since the accelerator explosion we suspect there my be more like him," I said.

"And you're gonna do what? Catch them? Are you insane? You think because you can run real fast that you're invincible? You're not! You're just a kid. My kid," Joe said.

"I'm not your kid, Joe. And you're not my father. My father's sitting in Iron Heights. Wrongfully convicted. You were wrong about him. And you're wrong about this. Now I may not be able to help him, but if I can save someone from a burning building or stop some armed thieves, I'm gonna do it. And you can't stop me. So don't try," I said.

"You think you're so smart. All of you. But you don't know what you don't know. And I hope that you're clever enough to figure it out before somebody gets killed," Joe said before walking angrily. After Joe left, I stood up and picked Emma up. I was about to speed away when Caitlin stopped me.

"Wait...Barry...I need to talk to Emma. She will call you when she needs you to pick her up," Caitlin said.

"O-okay," I said confused.

"Bye Barry," Emma smiled and waved after I put her down. I sped out of STAR Labs.

Emma's POV

After Barry sped out of STAR Labs, I looked to Caitlin confusion clear on my face. "Come here," Caitlin said. I followed her out of the Cortex and we stopped in the hallway. "Can I ask you something?" Caitlin asked.

"You just did, but continue," I said.

"What do you like about Barry? How does he make you feel?" Caitlin said.

"Well that was two questions but...I like how he is a gentleman, he is really respectful. He always tries to see the good in people too. He is just really nice. I love how he is so protective over me and Iris, and anyone else he cares about. He really makes me feel safe and loved I guess. Whenever I'm around him I get butterflies. Like when we hug or when I'm just near him in general. He makes me so happy. I just like everything about him. He is everything I want in a guy....I like him..." I realized. "I like Barry....wow," I said again.

"Yeah, and guess what.....I think he likes you too," Caitlin said smiling.

"How do you know?" I asked Caitlin, smiling.

"Okay, so first, whenever you are around Barry....his heart rate quickens and his sweat glands release more sweat," Caitlin said, "these could very like be a coincidence, but they could also be signs that he likes you."

"Cait, it's probably a coincidence. He loves Iris. But how is it you know what I'm feeling before I do?" I asked her.

"It's not hard to see, you two were made for each other. Trust me," Caitlin explained.

"Yeah, so go call your boyfriend to pick you up now," Cisco yelled from the Cortex. I rolled my eyes, hugged Caitlin, and texted Barry. Caitlin walked back into the Cortex.

To: Bartholomew

Me- Can u come pick me up now?

Bartholomew- Yeah, be there in 3 seconds....

Bartholomew- Count for me

Me- Yeah ok...stop texting and running

Bartholomew- I'm not....start counting.....now

"One.....two.....three.....fou-" I started when Barry ran into a stop. His nose was only inches away from mine, remember, I'm still wearing my heels and dress. "You're late," I said.

"I-I, sorry," Barry said scratching the back of his neck.

"Okay....let's go back to my place, and watch a movie," I said.

"Yeah....no, don't think I forgot about our talk," Barry said smirking.

"Ugh...fine, but movie after," I said while Barry picked me up.

"Don't burn this dress, and don't faint," I said.

"Are you going to say that before I run you anyway," Barry asked, his eyebrows raised in amusement.

"Maybe, now run Barry run," I said. And run he did. We got back to my apartment and Barry put me down. Ugh....now for my talk.
