Chapter 41: The long walk.

Elisabeth's POV:

Glacier was so quiet during the day. Her quietness was unreal.

"Is she okay?" I asked Scarlet who sat with us at lunch.

"Don't know," said Scarlet. "She has been acting strange all of last week and when she went in Mrs Vicles's office."

Glacier started breathing rapidly. She looked pale.

"Baby?" I put my arm round her. "Calm down."

But Glacier didn't calm down. She didn't even touch her ham sandwich or salad. Something must be up.

"Glace," I said. "I'm going to take your tray up and take you outside, Okay?"

Glacier nodded. I picked up the tray and put her plates on my tray. I took both  trays up to the counter and thanked the staff.

"Isn't Glacier feeling well?" Asked our favourite dinner lady.

I shook my head. "I don't know what is going on. She's been like it apparently for the last two weeks."

The dinner lady looked at me. "Just take her out for a walk to clear her head."

"That's what I'm planning to do," I admitted..

"Are you feeling okay?" The dinner lady asked. "I heard what happened."

"A bit bruised," I admitted. "But it's to be expected. Thanks for your concern."

"Don't tell anyone," said the woman. "But you and Glacier are my favourite students. You don't cause trouble."

I smiled at that. "See you tonight!"

She nodded and took the trays away. I returned to the table where Scarlet was hugging Glacier. Scarlet looked at me.

"Elsa's back," she told Glacier.

I gently tapped her on the shoulder. "Come on, Hun," I said. "Let's go.

Glacier got up and held my hand. I picked up our bags and helped her with hers. Then we set off.

Once outside, I turned to her, holding both hands.

"Glace," I said. "Please, tell me what's wrong. Don't you trust me?"

"I'm not worth this shitty life," said Glacier. "No one deserves me."

"Don't think that," I said pulling her to me. "Your family, your friends, me. We all think you aren't worthless."

"Not everyone," sniffled Glacier.

"Vicles did something to you, didn't she?" I felt angry. "What did she do to you?"

"I don't actually know," sniffled Glacier. "Just told me off for being a cry baby about you being in hospital."

"That's wrong," I said. "Very wrong. You can't help that, Glacie. All the shit you went through. No laughing matter. You had every right to be worried and upset."

"Well, apparently according to that bitch," sniffled Glacier. "I'm not."

I hugged her close to me. It was so tempting to kiss her again. "Oh, baby."

Glacier broke down and sobbed hard in to me. I held her there, letting her do this.

"You're back?"

I looked up to see Zelda walking towards us. She looked worried.

"Hi, Zelda," I said.

"I just saw the two of you walk out," said Zelda. "Is things okay?"

"Mrs Vicles has done something to her," I said.

"Hm ... not surprising," said Zelda. "She looked at Glacier's records. I know she said about second chances, but she hates anyone that isn't straight. Look at her wrist. It might tell you something."

I lifted Glacier's pride band wrist up. I noticed a red mark round the wrist. I thought it was where she bit herself. But no, it  looked deeper than it.

"If you aren't careful," said Zelda. "You will get it, too! Look at mine."

I stared at her whole left arm. Deep gashes. This was bad.

"Has no one called the police about her?"

"No," sighed Zelda.

"Oh," I said.

"I hate that fucking bitch," yelled Glacier.

"Calm down," said Zelda. "It's okay.

"But it feels like it isn't, Zelda," sobbed Glacier.

We both stared at one another. Poor Glacier!
