1) Learning about Royal Manners

I wake up feeling a soft blanket over me. I don't remember having one. Then, I realize that I'm at my grandma's. I don't even know when I fell asleep. I was reading a book about the wonders of the universe and then I turned off the light because I felt my eyes tired, and while I was remembering the holidays spent with my parents I must have fallen asleep. I had a really good sleep. I don't even know when was the last time I slept this well.

After I brush my teeth, wash my face and change into some comfortable clothes, I go downstairs. My grandma is having a cup of coffee. "Good morning, grandma."

"Oh. Good morning my lovely granddaughter. How was your sleep in the new bed?"

"Good. It was so comfortable that I think I fell asleep soon after I closed my eyes."

"That is good to hear. What do you want for breakfast?"

"Do you have some cereals?"

"Yes. Kale!"

"Yes madam."

"Bring Eileen a bowl of warm milk and some cereals please."

"Yes, just a moment." he says.

After a minute, he comes back with the milk in a beautiful bowl and a box of honey cereals. "Thank you." I say to him.

"No problem." he says, smiling.

"After you eat, I need to teach you some things."

"Oh okay." I was so curious to see what she will teach me, that I quickly ate the cereals with the now sweet milk.

"As you will go meet the Royal family, you have to know some manners. First, even if you are amazed by the castle and by the things that are there, please do not open your mouth large in awe. When we arrive, we will be introduced by a man there that will shout our name. After the Queen says to come in, he will open the door and we will enter. When we are in front of them, we will make a small bow and then I will start talking to her. The former Queen will also be there, the Prince's grandmother. After a while, you and the Prince will be allowed to leave and go in another room to get to know each other better. He is a bit shy, so don't be amazed when he doesn't talk much. Understood? " my grandma asks.

"Yes." I say, trying to remember all the manners I learn and then apply them tomorrow.

"Okay. At lunch time we will all go to the dining room to eat. You will sit only after the Queen sits, you can't eat until she does and you can't eat after she finished and put down the fork. If there are more forks and spoons as there will be a lot of different foods, you eat with the furthest one. But you can also look at the Queen and do as she does." my grandmother tells me.

"I see." I say.

"When you sit, you also have to sit nicely, the knees should be together, not one over the other. You should also slant your legs. This way, they will also appear longer. Here, let me show you. So the Queen sits, then you slowly sit down, slant your legs and bring your knees together. You can also search and see that it was Princess Diana's posture. When the tea will be served, you should also hold the tea correctly. Kale. Can I have two teacups and the saucers as well?"

Two minutes later, Kale comes with the teacups and also a tea pot.

"This is some chamomile tea." Kale says.

"Oh, okay. Thank you. So, Eileen, you take the handle with your thumb and index finger, while the middle one supports the bottom. With the other hand, you should hold the saucer. And no pinky up. You should try to sip from the same spot as well so the lipstick doesn't stain all the cup. "

"Okay, let me try." I do as she said and then look at her for approval.

"Perfect. You learned fast."

After she said that, I was so happy at myself. I think I'll do just fine.

"And now. One last thing." she says. I look at her questionably.

"Olivia, bring the dress!" she shouts.

A few moments later, a woman of about 20-25 years comes, which I presume to be Olivia. In her hands, she has a beautiful pink dress that you can immediately tell is looking royal and I wonder if I would look good in it and not damage its luxurious look. The top has some flowers embroidered with small beadings and crystals. The ball gown silhouette at the bottom perfectly compliments the beadings. I love it so much. The sleeves are short. On the arm, she also has a white bolero.

"The bolero is for covering your back and arms. Because, in the presence of Royalty, you have to cover any cleavage." my grandma says.

"Oh... Can I try them on?" I ask.

"Of course. We should also see if it needs retouching or not." my grandma says, taking the bolero from Olivia as we head towards my room. I enter the bathroom to change in the dress. "If you need any help, just say." I hear her say.

"Okay grandma."

After getting dressed, I feel how light the whole dress is and that the sleeves are just until above the elbow. Then, I exit the bathroom and go in the bedroom. I then take the bolero on as well.

"You look lovely." my grandma compliments me.

"Thank you." I say.

"I agree. You look stunning in this dress." Olivia also says.

As I admire myself in the mirror I feel truly beautiful. I've never felt like this in a while.

"Olivia will also be doing your hair and some makeup as well tomorrow." my grandma explains. "Now take the dress off to put it back on a hanger."

"Okay." After taking it off in the bathroom, I put it on the hanger.

Afterwards, I take a book and start reading it. It is about a girl who was also chosen like myself to marry the Prince. The only difference was that she had to compete with other girls for him. I hope I won't have to do the same thing.

The book was so interesting that I stopped reading only when I went down to eat lunch. After finishing the book, I sit in the garden, admiring the nature and playing with Max. After dinner, I quickly go to sleep, to feel fresh for the day that will come.

---------

Waking up, I remember that today is the day when I go meet the Royal family. I so don't want to get up, but I do.

I go to the bathroom and wash myself and brush my teeth. I also get dressed and go downstairs.

"Good morning, grandma."

"Good morning. Did you sleep well?"

"Sort of. I am a bit nervous for the meeting."

"I understand but everything will be okay if you do as I've thought you yesterday. Now, let's eat and then we'll leave. Tom, our driver, will be taking us there."

"Oh, okay."

Looking on the table, I see some slices of ham, cheese, toast and two types of jam: cherries and apricots. I take a piece of toast and put on some cherry jam. Tasting it, I feel even hungrier than before. After having two slices and one piece of ham, we go. I don't really eat a lot but do I know if I'll get anything to eat at the castle. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Entering the car, I give my greetings to the driver, while my grandma tells him to take us to the castle. He only says a short yes and drives.

"I've decided to take this drive as an opportunity to tell you why you are promised to the prince." says my grandmother.

"Oh, I can't wait to hear the explanation." trying not to sound too rude, but rather interested.

"The former king, the grandfather of the Prince, and your grandfather used to be close friends. They met when they were in college and since then they were unparted. After finishing college, the king returned to the castle and your grandfather asked him if he could be his bodyguard. Without a second thought, he was accepted and he did his job really well. No person, aside from family could get any closer without the permission of the king. During that time, we also met and fell in love quickly. After two years since we got married, I got pregnant. The Queen also did and our husbands agreed that our children will get married. But when we both had girls, the bet wasn't achievable so it was passed to the next generation, you. Your grandfather didn't work forever beside the Royal family. After 40 years of working with them, he asked for permission to retire and he luckily got it. Then he started making furniture from wood as the one in the living room until he sadly died. I still miss him but I have to be happy for him until we meet on the other side. And I also have to take care of you. "

"Oh, I now understand. Thank you for telling me." So I now finally understand what the marriage was about. I think I could do my grandpa that favour, but only if the Prince is nice and lovable. Otherwise, I'm sorry... I thought.

"Of course."

When the car stopped, a huge castle was laid in front of my eyes.

A/N: So I finally wrote the first chapter. It's more background story than action. Next chapter will be the meeting. I can't wait to write it.

And... I have completed the 2k challenge.  🎉

If you saw any mistakes, please let me know. Stay safe!
