3: Midoriya Izuku, Origin

It was a normal week when the chaos called my current life began. I was ten. I was packed up from my dads house and about to head over to mom's for the next week.

"Izuku, before you leave, we need to talk about something," my dad had said as I set my bag at the door.

"Yeah? What's up?"

"You should take all of your belongings you treasure with you this time."

This was very sudden. Dad hasn't mentioned anything about moving or...not letting me back. "Wha-...why?"

"You dream of being a hero, yes?" Dad asked me, and I confirmed my goal with a determined nod. "Then, can you tell me this: there is one thing all great, true heroes have in common. Think back to the quirkless-time comics I gave you. What is it that sets them apart?"

I thought for a moment. They all have similar desires for different reasons - revenge, avenging, making the world better for the sake of it, etc.

"Is it determination or motivation?" I asked tentatively.

"Good, but wrong. Try again."

I thought some more and finally spoke after a good few minutes. "I...I'm not sure."

"Izuku, I've trained your brain for years...are you sure you don't know?"

I thought again. I didn't want to disappoint my dad - although I knew I really couldn't. He's proud of who I am. Even if he isn't on the side of the law, and even though I want to be a hero. I know that. I nodded in response to him. I really didn't know what set old comic book heroes apart from most heroes of today.

"Well, I'll tell you," I listened to his voice - similar to what I predict mine to be in several years. But probably not. "Every true hero has a life-long nemesis. Take those old quirkless-time comics, for example. Hero Batman has The Joker, and maybe more of you count The Penguin. The hero Superman has Lex Luthor. The heroine Captain Marvel has Dr. Sivana. The list goes on, Izuku."

"Then...then who does All Might have..?" I knew the answer as I asked it. I figured it out based of what I knew of their quirks. The opposing names tell as much.

"All Might, Shimura Nana, and all the other users of One for All have me. But I'm sure you figured that out. That's besides the point, Izu. I ask you this because I want to be sure of my next actions. I'm telling you to take your valuables because you won't see me for a long while, Izu. I know it'll be hard, but you will become a true hero."

"Wh-why are you leaving?" I asked, on the verge of tears. I didn't want him to leave...he's my dad. No matter if he was a villain of not, I still wanted him in my life.

"To find you a nemesis. Someone to help form you into a true hero."

"Oh. Okay," I said, as determined as ever. I tried to put confidence in my voice. I had to call my mom and tell her I'd be taking extra time at dad's house, so she wouldn't-

"Oh, and don't worry about Inko. I called her and told her you may be a bit late."

Dad and I went to my room, carefully packing my things into new duffel bags he provided. I did leave some of my things - various pieces of clothing I didn't fit in, my bed, and things that all together had no meaning to me. Dad said he'd dispose of whatever I left, making sure petty criminals wouldn't take anything and heroes wouldn't remove me from my home because my dad's a villain if he's ever found out. Even if it's not likely, Dad said we have to always be careful about these things. He used an odd warp quirk he had to transport my things to my room at mom's house. The quirk couldn't transfer living things, but could transfer objects.

I grabbed my bag from the front room once more, hugging my dad. I didn't want to say goodbye for years to him, but I knew he'd go through with his plot to help me become a hero no matter what.

"Izuku, one more thing before I send you home. I have a gift for you."
