Pun Guy (Izuki x Reader)

“Hey, why does the mushroom always get invited to parties?”

“Why?”

“Because he’s a fungai! Get it?”

“Ughhh”

You roll your eyes as your best friend, Shun, texts you another one of his puns. You met him when you just moved in their neighborhood and happened to be next door neighbors. You went to the same middle school together but unfortunately, you two got separated when you had to move because of your father being promoted to a university professor. But you two still texted each other and haven’t lost contact with each other. You were still close as ever, and he still didn’t stop sending you pun.

Hey, Izuki, I gotta go. Mom’s calling me to help her with the chores.

Chore thing, (L/N)! Our game’s about to start anyway

Izuki stop. And good luck!

You dropped your phone on your bed and went to your mother to go help her in cooking. Your relatives are coming over, and your mother wanted to cook a big meal.

Your four year old sister sat on the table as your mother gush over the ingredients she needed.

“(f/n)! Finally! Help me prepare here!” your mother ordered you as you went to her side and started chopping some ingredients.

“I guess some chefs have some sizzling tempers and get easily steamed” you mutter to yourself. Your mother is a head chef in a five star restaurant and always has high taste in food. She’s really high standard when it comes to cooking and hates errors.

“Did I hear that right?” your little sister asked in disbelief after hearing you say that.

You, my friend, just said a pun. Which you barely do because of your hate towards them. You don’t like puns but meeting Shun made like them without your family knowing.

“I’m pretty sure you’re not deaf, so yeah” you shrugged putting the chopped vegetables in a bowl.

“I think I’m becoming one. I never thought I’d hear you say that” your sister said that got you all excited.

“Oh my god, that’s a good pun!” you excitedly shriek. Your sister gave you a horrified look and went running away while screaming.

“Onee-chan’s becoming like Shun-nii!”

“What? I don’t get your pun” your mother questioned while stirring up her soup.

You smiled and explained. “Because I told her she’s deaf, and then she was like ‘I never thought I’d hear you’!” you grinned childishly while your mother gave that expression ‘oh-my-god-she-became-a-pun-lover’.

“As your punishment, you’ll be the one grilling fish” your mother stated, giving you a fan and some charcoal. “Your father’s outside by the veranda. Get grillin”

“Grills are a hot item” you pun once again. “And you think I didn’t notice your PUNishment mom?”

“OH MY GOD JUST GRILL THOSE FISH!” your mother hollered in annoyance while you laughed your ass off.

“Izuki really needs to hear these pun made by (L/N) family!” you proclaimed disappearing off outside. Your mother heard what you said and sadly stared at the running water as she washes some fruits.

(F/N) misses Shun huh? She thought to herself. “I think he misses that little miss as well. Oh, I made a pun too!” little by little, pun virus invaded your family. Just kidding, only your mom.

You fanned the charcoal as it lit fire. You blew on it to prevent the smoke from entering your house. Your dad sat there while reading some newspaper and suddenly asked you: “Hey (F/n), what do you want to do on your birthday?”

“Huh?” you totally forgot that you were turning 17 tomorrow. You looked at your father who put down his newspaper and waited for answer from you. You shrugged and focused back on what you’re cooking. “I don’t know. Surprise me”

“But you know I’m bad at surprises, dear”

“Hehe, not my problem!” you childish giggled.

Just as you finished cooking the fish, your mother went to call you and say your relatives have arrived. You rushed in putting the dish on the plate and went to serve it at the table.

Throughout dinner, your parents converse with your distant uncle and aunt while you and your little sister were stuck with 5 year old twin cousins.

“Hey guys! What did the Boss Gun say to the Employee Bullet?” you question as the two identical guy twins stared at you bluntly. “You’re fired!”

“I’m going to the bathroom…” your sister gave up on you, and excused herself to save her ears from your corny jokes.

You giggled and remembered Shun’s game today. You checked the clock and thought it’s about time it finished.

You went upstairs to grab your phone and ring a call to Shun who picked it up and greeted you gloomily.

“(l/n)?”

“Izuki! How are you? I thought your game ended just about now. I was just going to ask you if—”

“Sorry, it’s not really a good time…”

With that, he suddenly hung up. You stared at your phone confusingly. Shun sounded a bit down to you; he was alright a while ago.

“Maybe they lost…?” you told yourself and rung a call to Shun again.

“(L/N), I told you—”

“Hey, Shun. Wanna know why the vegetables didn’t want the onion to cut himself?” You cut off Shun before he could even speak. “And don’t you dare hung up!”

“(F/N)…” he groaned. “I can’t talk right now…”

“Just hear me out! You won’t regret this!” you insisted. “I’ll repeat it, why did the vegetables didn’t want the onion to cut himself?”

You can hear Shun sigh from the other line and hoped he asks: “Why?” you beamed and continued your joke.

“Because if he does, they’re all gonna start crying!” you chirped grinning to yourself like an idiot. Good thing you were alone in your room. “Get it? Because whenever we cut onions, we always cry”

You waited for a response from him and hoped you liked it. Even though he didn’t say it, you know Shun when he’s in a bad mood. And remembering he had a game, you concluded that he lost because if ever they won, you’d be the first one Shun will call.

“Did you like my pun?” you asked from the silent Shun who let out a chuckle.

“That’s a pretty good one (F/N)…” he replied that made you happy.

“God you’re slow! And you’re supposed to love puns more than me!” you replied and lied on your bed.

“Wait, I thought you hated puns?” he wondered as you hugged your pillow.

“Well it’s your fault that I grew fond of them!” you proclaimed. “I’m starting to be like you, you know!”

“Hehe, sorry about that” Shun snickered. He sounded okay to you now. “Thanks for the pun. It cheered me up, a bit…”

You pouted. “Then how many puns would I have to say just so you would cheer up huh?” you continued to bug him and sat up on your bed. “Then I have another one!”

“Izuki get in the damn train we’re leaving!”

“So-Sorry! Hey, (F/N) I’ll call you back!”

“Who was that anyway?”

“Oh, just someone… special…”

Junpei looked at his vice-captain who was earnestly smiling to himself with warm cheeks. Clicking his tongue, he sighed. This guy’s in love.

You heard the beeping sound of your phone when Shun decided to hung up on you. You pouted at your phone and placed it on your desk.

Hearing your mom call you, you went back downstairs to say goodbye to your relatives and even sent a pun to them which the twins frowned at. You giggled and helped your mom do the dishes while your father finishes some work and your sister took a bath.

“(F/N), honey. What do you want to do on your birthday?” your mother suddenly asked the same question your father did.

You stopped scrubbing the plates and glanced at her. “I don’t know. Dad asked me the same question, but I told him to surprise me” you replied.

“How about we visit our old neighborhood? You miss Shun, don’t you?” your mother suggested.

“Huh? Mom. That’s 6 hours travel, and I have school” you said. “Believe me, I wanted to visit. And I really miss Shun but you guys will be tired at that time and I don’t want to go all the way there just because it’s my birthday. Besides, we’ll be home late so we don’t have time”

Your mom stared at you for a while before sighing. “If you say so then, we can have dinner outside?”

You smiled at your mom. “I already told dad to surprise me, but that sounds great”

“Onee-chan, it’s your turn” your sister came in the kitchen all refreshed.

“Go take a bath (f/n). I’ll finish this” your mother told as you nod.

As you entered the bathroom, your cellphone that was left in your room rung while you got into the hot waters in your tub. Two missed calls where displayed as the caller ID appeared on the screen: Pun-y Guy Shun

“Shun, dinner’s ready dear” Mrs. Izuki called, entering Shun as he sat up from his bed while staring at his phone. “What’s wrong?”

“Ah, nothing mom. (F/n)’s just not picking up my call” he replied, placing his mobile on his desk and head to the door.

“Did you two fight?” his mother asked.

“Huh? Nuh-uh. We were just talking on the phone earlier. I hung up since the train we rode was crowded” Shun told her, walking out the room with her. “Maybe she’s asleep already?”

Mrs. Izuki chuckled and patted her son’s shoulder. “You two sound like a couple. It’s so cute”

“Mo-Mom! Stop joking around!” Shun blushed at his mother’s words.

“I wasn’t. I’m serious here, Shun”

“Wha-Whatever! Save the puns for later! (F/N) promised to give me puns all night!”

You finished taking a bath and went back to your room before checking your phone. You saw the two missed calls Shun left so you went to call him back. He was eating dinner with his family so he wasn’t able to answer making you think he already fell asleep.

He did have a game today.

You decided to give a call to your best friend instead and told her about having dinner out with her family.

As Shun was done eating, he immediately went back to his room and gave you a call but you were in a call with your friend so he couldn’t connect with your mobile.

“Is she mad at me or something?” he wondered.

While you chatted with your friend, Shun continued to try to call you but you weren’t answering. He frowned at his phone and placed on his desk, thinking about you. It’s her birthday tomorrow. He covered his eyes with his arm and thought to call you back later but slowly drifted to sleep.

“Thanks for understanding, I’ll call you back” you hung up on your best friend and check your phone again. “He’s not calling me back” you uttered, lying on your bed and tried to call him again.

Shun’s phone rung as he sleep that didn’t even wake him up. He was too tired from the game.

“Onii-chan you’re phone!” Shun’s sister woke up from the ringing sound and went to enter his room to find out why he wasn’t answering his phone. Her eyes were half-closed as she picked up the phone from the desk and read the caller ID. “(F/n)-nee?” she pressed the green button to inform you that her brother was already asleep but due to her tiredness, she accidentally dropped the phone on the floor as you were talking.

“Finally you decided to pick up! Now I’ll be the one picking on you!” you exclaimed. The other line was silent for a while as you wondered what’s wrong.

Meanwhile, Shun’s sister looked down to look for the phone, not knowing she already stepped on it, breaking it in pieces.

“O-Onii-chan…” she fell asleep right beside her brother on the bed.

“He hung up?” you wondered, staring at the screen. You tried to call again but the operator kept repeating that it couldn’t reach his cell. “Did he turn off his phone or something? Talk about being rude! Tch, whatever!” you slammed your phone on the desk bitterly and went under the covers to sleep.

Next day, you received tons of birthday greetings from your family and friends (via text). You rushed in preparing in the morning and didn’t even join your family for breakfast and went ahead of them to school even though your dad normally drives you to school.

You reached class and the same routine happens. You were greeted and your best friend pulled an embarrassing banner for you that you begged her to hide. Classes start and you kept checking your phone for any certain birthday greeting that may come from a special someone. Or maybe a text pun might be sent to you if ever.

To be honest, you were waiting for Shun’s birthday greeting all morning that comes up with a pun. Junpei who went in the same middle school as you didn’t even forget about it, same with Riko. But of all people, your best bud Shun wasn’t sending anything. It made you frustrated for some reason.

First, hanging up on you then now this? You felt like he didn’t care at you on a special day and it you didn’t like the feeling.

“Why all grumpy, birthday girl? Did something happen?” (Bf’s/n) approached you and sat on your desk when dismissal came. You didn’t eat lunch and throughout lesson period, you kept staring down your phone.

You sighed and shook your head. “Nothing. I’m just tired”

“That’s not Gucci…”

“Hey that’s my pun”

“Nuh-uh. You got it from your bud, Shun. Remember when you told me that?”

At the mention of his name, your lips suddenly grew into a frown and your face had bitter written all over it. You grab your bag and excused yourself and was about to leave the classroom when your best friend said:

“Is it about Shun?”

“Nothing” you lied. It wasn’t anything. You were still bothered that he didn’t text you all day. It was the only thing that kept you communicated yet he wasn’t even acknowledging your number in his now destroyed phone and sim. Your best friend didn’t buy your lie so you decided to tell her the truth.

“Oh my god, do you have feelings for Shun?” she gawked as you covered her mouth.

“Do-Don’t say it aloud! It’s embarrassing! He’s my best friend!” you blushed.

“But you love him!”

“Too much romance!”

“Hahaha! I knew it (F/N)!”

“OKAY GOODBYE!”

You bid a farewell to your beloved best friend who kept yelling Shun’s name as you ran through the route home. Entering your house, you head straight to the kitchen when your mom normally is while shouting you’re home

You notice the room was dark and heard someone whisper from behind you: “Did you hear about the guy whose left side was cut off?” it was a creepy voice that sent shivers down your spine. You were scared at first but then when it continued—“He’s all right now”—you figured it was supposed to be a pun.

“Shu-Shun—?” you wanted to slap yourself for calling him. You know he’s not here.

You were suddenly grabbed someone from the back and dragged you out into the veranda where you heard dozens of people shout: “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” you see your family and relatives surprise you.

Everyone was there except your best friend who thought you’d be out with your family and cancelled your plans of hanging out. You noted mentally to call her and invite her over.

“Mo-Mom?” you gawked seeing five star dishes served on tables that were placed at your big backyard. “I thought we were going to have dinner outside!”

“Well, this is outside” Your sister pointed out shrugging.

“And you did tell me to surprise you” your dad added.

You grinned and hugged them one by one. “Wait, if you guys are all here, then who dragged me here?” you wondered.

“That would be the mushroom” your mother answered.

You raised an eyebrow. “Huh?” turning around, you see Shun standing there smiling and handed you his book of puns.

“My friend gave me a book about puns for my birthday and I loved it. It was two meaningful” he punned. “Happy birthday, (F/N)!”

“Shu-Shun?” you were surprised to see him here. You didn’t know what to feel. Your heart was happy that he was here yet your mind kept reminding you that he made you frustrated the whole day he wasn’t texting you a greeting. “You jerk!” you threw the book at his face that made everyone’s jaw dropped.

“Hey! What was that for?!” he rubbed his chin where the book hit him.

You didn’t answer and attacked him a hug, almost suffocating him and sobbed on his chest. “You jerk! You show your face now?! I thought you forgot about me!”

“(F/N), it was only today that I didn’t greet you in the morning” he reasoned.

“Even so!” you retort. “I called you back last night and you didn’t answer! Well you did but then hung up!”

“Chill I can explain! It was my sister! She accidentally stepped on my phone when I was asleep!”

“You ditched me!”

As you argued with Shun in front of your family, your mother decided that they should probably start eating since your debate with your pun buddy would last long. She even called your best friend over for you and let everyone get their own plates.

“They sound like a couple” your little sister commented.

“Then you should’ve done something just to greet me! Even Junpei and Riko did!” you shouted.

“That’s why I came all the way here, (F/N)! To greet and see you!” he exclaimed.

Your mouth reached its limit as you shut up and stared at him.

“You don’t know how much I missed you, missy!” your mind was unstable that you didn’t even recognize if that was a pun or not.

“Shu-Shun…” you were tear-eyed and hugged him in front of everyone in your family who just watched as if they were watching some dramatic teen show. “I miss you too, you dork”

He smiled and hugged you back. “Hey, (F/N), why did you think I was invited to your birthday party?”

“Why?”

“Because I’m a PUN GUY!”

You popped a vein and kissed him to shut up, not even minding that your parents and best friend were there watching. Even though he didn’t say anything, it was confirmed that he had the same feelings for you when he kissed you back.

oooookaayyyyy this was dramatic xD But here you go! A Pun-filled One-shot for @Lucapyon! :D
