Chapter#7 - The Violin Show

Dawn always carries extra clothes with her for caution to help in situations like that. We used to tease her for that, I guess it was coming in handy now. Alice took off her upper and her arms were full of bruises, she went into the bathroom to change and started crying again, we forced her to open up and it took a fifteen minute consoling to calm her down again.
Dawn gave Alice her extra pair of clothes that was a blue jeans and pink sweatshirt. Alice changed into it and the three of us were sitting on the king sized bed of Zayn's king sized guest room. It was 1 a.m. in the morning but none of us was feeling sleepy.
'I'm so sorry, you guys had to disturb your routine because of me,' Alice said.
'Alice, for God's sake, you're saying that for the fourth time today. It's okay, okay?' Dawn said in a soft yet angry voice.
'Okay okay,' said Alice.
'I'm so not sleepy. Remember, Alice? We have to go to Samantha's violin show today.'
'Yeah,' she said.
'Samantha didn't invite me, she only had three passes and you both and Grace wanted to go.'
I nodded and we heard a knock on the door.
Zayn peeked in from outside, 'Can I come in?'
'Yes you can, but that doesn't mean you should,' i said sassily. He gave me a flat look and Alice gave me little push, 'Yes you can come in Zayn, we weren't sleeping.'
Zayn was followed by Aaron and I just chuckled at them both, they were wearing pajamas and I don't know what I found funny about it but I laughed anyways.
'What is so funny?' asked Zayn.
I didn't want to tell them that I was laughing at their pajamas so I just gave my best answer, 'Your face.'
He narrowed his eyes at me, 'That's rude, redhead. I helped you and you tell me my face is funny.'
'Okay I'm sorry,' I said and smiled at him. It was true, he had helped me and steadied me when I had lost my senses. Now that I was thinking back to the situation, I was crying and anxious, and I hugged him. And he comforted me, without him we might have lost Alice. I suddenly felt really grateful of him and said, 'Zayn.'
'Yeah?'
'Thankyou,' I said with all my gratefulness and the admiration I had developed for him.
'Mention not redhead,' he smiled.
He returned back to talking and when he wasn't noticing I took my time to take in his features. His smile was a very contagious one. Right how people complimented me to have, and Samantha of course. His eyes were a light mild blue dreamy colour. I could make a whole list of words that were usable to describe his eyes. His hair were a medium brown colour and looked soft. I could almost reach up my hand to them and feel how soft they were.
Suddenly Dawn elbowed me in my ribs, 'Ow, what are you doing?' I whispered to her.
'Don't be a creep Cheryl. You were staring at him, I caught you before he could,' she whispered back.
'Oh,' i said embarrassed. I felt the heat rush to my cheeks and I blushed but nobody saw that except of Dawn. She wiggled her eyebrows at me and I just rolled my eyes. We continued talking about nothing and Dawn didn't bother me about the staring as I had expected. Dawn, being Dawn was very patient and didn't like to push things to conclusions, which is what I loved about her.
'How about we play something?' suggested Dawn.
'Yeah! Never have I ever?,' I asked.
'Sounds good,' Aaron said. Aaron had come to sit just beside Alice from when he entered the room. I thought they would make a really good couple in the future, they looked cute together.
'Fine with me,' Zayn said.
I clapped and said, 'Let's bring the juice.'
Zayn and I went to get the juice and the cups.
We got to the kitchen and I took out the juice from the fridge while Zayn took out the plastic cups. I placed the juice on the kitchen slab and went over to Zayn.
'Hey redhead, something wrong?'
'No, thankyou Zayn,' I said again.
'Cheryl,' he put his hand on my shoulder, 'It's okay. I don't like you so thankful. Cheryl is good being sassy and savage, at least with me.'
I laughed, 'Nah, sometimes I like to be nice with you too.'
'Do you?' i nodded.
'And by the way, you called me Cheryl again,' I told him.
He laughed and it was a wonderful thing. The sound of his laugh was like how my mom described my dad's to be. Playful, mischievous and it had the ability to make you smile. No, Cheryl, shut up. Get him out of your mind.
'Let's go then, others will be waiting,' I told him. We got the juices and the glasses and went back.
'What took you guys so long?' asked Alice wiggling her eye brows at me.
I rolled my eyes again, and said, 'Shut up Alice, now let's play.'
She laughed and we started playing. We spun the bottle and Alice's turn came first.
'Never have I ever.....' she said and thought for a second, 'been into the death eater.'
All of them took a sip of their juices except of me. Death eater was a roller coaster in an amusement park, which was known to be one of the most thrilling out there. I was very scared of roller coasters, I only had been into one when I was little and when we were mid way it stopped, and I literally thought I would die. Nobody was harmed though, but that put in me a bad fear of roller coasters.
Now for those who are not familiar with this game, a person who has his turn says an act and everyone that has done that has to take a sip of their drink. The one who hasn't has to explain why if it's unusual. And the one who have done it, have to tell their stories.
'You've never been into the death eater?' asked Zayn. Everyone else knew about my absurd fear except of him so I told the whole story.
'So actually I have never been into a roller coaster except when I was eight.'
He stared at me with his mouth opened, I rolled my eyes because he was making me embarrassed. 'Sorry,' he said, 'You're the first person I've met who doesn't like roller coasters.'
'Let's spin the bottle again,' i said blankly. What? I didn't like talking about my fear.
The bottle was spinned and this time it was Dawn's turn, 'Never have i ever talked to a stranger,' she said and took a sip of her drink.
'Come on Dawn. Everyone must have done that.'
We all took sips of our drinks except Alice. I gasped at her, 'What?!'
'Yes, surprise! I am Little Red Riding Hood.'
'No, even she talked to the wolf,' Dawn said, 'And Cheryl I couldn't think of anything else.'
I started telling my story first, 'Its been a plenty of times that I have talked to starngers. But the one I remembered is when I was six and got lost in a park eating a cotton candy. I asked a random woman for her mobile phone and called my mom her phone and I was found.'
'Smart,' said Zayn, 'I flirted with a stranger nurse because of a stupid dare and she obviously thought I was crazy because we were in a freaking hospital.' He eyed Aaron who coughed. I laughed, 'Ahy exactly were you playing truth and dare in a hospital?'
'Because,' said Aaron, he was obviously the one who gave the dare, 'my sister was admitted in there because of dehydration and Zayn was also staying the night there with me. We were bored so we played truth and dare. And I couldn't think of anything else,' he laughed followed by all of us.
Then, Dawn started, 'The time I remember I talked to a stranger was when I went to pet a cat on the street while walking to school when I was seven and the owner of the cat came running towards it, it was the first day of my school and.....' I completed for her, 'The owner of the cat was Felicity.' She nodded and Aaron told his story, 'I talked to a stranger when I was waiting for my dad's car to come and I was bored so I started a conversation. And like Cheryl said we all must have talked to strangers a lot of times so it's kinda a stupid question.'
Dawn threw a pillow at his face, 'I said I couldn't think of anything!' we all laughed.
Zayn's turn was next, 'Never have I ever slapped a person who tried to flirt with me.'
He smirked at me and I took a sip of my drink. Nobody except of me and Alice took a sip. Dawn said, 'Strangers never flirt with me.' Alice said, 'Once a random guy at a party who was obviously drunk tried to flirt with me and he was going too far so I slapped him.' I gave her a thumbs up and started my own story but instead I started giggling, 'I slapped Zayn at his party yesterday.' They all started laughing alongside me.
****************
We all sat there playing for sometime and soon Alice, Aaron, and Dawn drifted off to sleep and I was very sleepy myself. Zayn got up to put the cups back and I went to help him wash those.
We came back and I clicked a picture of Aaron and Alice sitting together and sleeping, they were cute. Alice's head was placed on Aaron's shoulder and they both were deep in sleep. Dawn had gone to the couch where she was sleeping and I just sat there staring at them when Zayn entered.
'Not sleepy?' he asked.
'I am very sleepy,' I truthfully answered.
'Hmmm, I'll get Aaron and then you guys can sleep on the bed, he is taking most of the space.' I chuckled and he woke up Aaron, Aaron looked around sleepily and stupidly and I laughed. He then took a look at Alice. He carefully placed her head on the pillow , thankfully she didn't wake up and Aaron then did the cutest thing possible. He kissed her forehead and with glancing at me for a second and smiling may I add, he left. I sat their awestruck that how wonderful it would be for Alice and Aaron to get together or at least be good friends. Aaron was very caring and loving and would be perfect for Alice, seeing they both like eachother made it more special.
Dawn was already asleep so I let her be on the couch and laid on the bed beside Alice. I started thinking about all the events that took place that day. Did I really hug Zayn? Why? I was supposed to despise him....why am I not being able to do that? He comforted me, we could be friends, or maybe we already are. I brushed off the thoughts of him from my mind and focused on sleeping. Go to sleep, Cheryl, good night.
****************
'Leave me alone! Don't touch me! Hey! Put the knife away from me please,' I woke up to Dawn sleep talking and crying in her sleep. It was still five in the morning. I went over to her and shook her awake.
'Cheryl?' she said sleepily.
'Dawn, you okay?'
'Bad dream,' she said and hugged me. I hugged her back and told her to go to sleep on the bed. She did as she was told and I came to lie on the couch.
Sleep didn't come to me easily but I slept anyway. I was awaken by Dawn again, but this time she was actually waking me up.
'Wow, Cheryl you didn't bother me a bit in waking up. But Alice over there is a heavy sleeper, I don't know how Aaron's low voice woke her up last night and now me screaming in her ear doesn't seem to bother her.'
I laughed and said, 'Easy peasy!'
She frowned at me and I went over to the bathroom, I took a little cold water in a glass and came over to Alice.
'Alice I want you to wake up in five, four.....'
'Shut up Cheryl,' she said sleepily.
'two, one. Times up sweetie!' I poured the water on her face and she shrieked. Dawn and I laughed and she pushed me back.
'Wake up!' I said and went to the couch to get my purse. We washed up and then went downstairs to find Zayn and Aaron sleeping in the t.v. room, on the couch. It was only nine in the morning and as they had slept very late it was obvious they won't wake up so early but I thought about waking them up anyways.
I shook Aaron and he woke up really quick. Aaron didn't really took long to wake up like most boys do. I shook Zayn and he in return pulled at my hand. Aaron held my my other hand to prevent me from falling on the couch beside Zayn and I quickly freed my hand.
'I'll wake him up,' said Aaron. I nodded and stared at Zayn like he was crazy. He was crazy.
He woke up and we went into the kitchen.
We had pancakes for breakfast that were made by Zayn and were amazing. Aaron decided to drop us back at my home, Zayn tagged along. We sat in the car in a comfortable silence.
When we arrived at my house finally, we all came out of the car and I invited the boys to come in. I had the spare keys to my house so I just opened it and directed them all inside. We were standing in the t.v. lounge when my mom walked out of her room.
'Hey mom! You're awake?' I asked.
'No, I'm still sleeping. This is my ghost talking to you,' she replied sarcastically. I gave her a flat look and she chuckled, yeah, sometimes I thought she should have been the teenager. All the others laughed and greeted my mom. To my surprise, Zayn knew my mom's name.
'Hey, Sophia. Nice to see you again,' he said. My mom allowed everyone to call her from her first name so it wasn't unusual but Zayn had already seen her before and I didn't know that. I decided to ask that to my mom afterwards.
The boys left and we talked to my mom about everything that happened yesterday. My mom was deeply concerned and said Alice could stay with us for a few days until we come up with a solution. But Alice insisted to go back home.
'Alice, are you sure you want to go back to your house?' asked Dawn, 'You can stay with any of us and you won't be a problem.'
'No,' Alice said, 'I want to go back to my own house. I don't want to be a burden on you guys. And he is my father, he won't kill me.'
'Okay,' I said sadly.
'Cheryl, i'll be okay. And I want Aaron's number. When I get the time, I'm going to call him and tell him about everything.'
'I'm glad you took a decision.'
I gave her the number and with a heavy heart we let her go back to her house to get ready for Samantha's violin show. Dawn also left for her house.
I called Grace to confirm she was coming.
'Hey Grace,' I said when she picked up.
'Hey Cherry! You back home?' she asked.
'Yeah, I've been home for two hours now.'
'How's Alice?'
'She was good. She left for her house sometime ago.'
'What?!' I expected this reaction, 'Why did you let her go back to that illiterate man? You should have stopped her Cheryl!'
'I know. We tried to. But she insisted, she said it is her dad, and she had to go back someday.'
'And you let her go?'
'Grace try to understand, we couldn't have forced her to stay. She clearly wanted to go and we couldn't tell her the opposite.'
'Okay, I get it. So why did you call?' she said back in her calm tone. I know she wasn't satisfied, but I wasn't either.
'I wanted to ask you if you are coming to Samantha's violin show today?'
'Oh shit! Oops didn't have to swear, sorry,' I chuckled, 'I totally forgot about that!'
'That's okay, you still have two hours till it begins. You can go get ready. I am going to do that too.'
'Okay then Cherry. See you there!'
'Bye!' I said and hung up.
I went to my closet to see if I could put together something formal. I went for a black dress shirt and a black and white striped knee length skirt, with heel pumps. I pulled up my hair into a unitail, applied my mascara and lip gloss, wore my heart shaped locket pendant and I was ready to go.
'Mom? Do I look formal?' I asked my mom who was cooking something in the kitchen.
She looked at me and said, 'Wow. You look pretty and yes, you do look formal.'
I went towards her and hugged her from behind, 'What are you cooking?'
'Spaghettiiiiii,' she sang.
'Wow, I'll be back by seven in the evening. And then I'll eat your spaghettiiiii. I'm leaving, okay?'
'Okay. Stay safe, bye!'
And I left with that, my dad dropped me at the auditorium where the violin show had to take place. I called Alice who was searching for me and Grace who was almost there. After we three met up I asked Alice about the condition at her home, 'Alice, was everything okay at home?'
'Yes, dad was not drunk and in a normal mood. He didn't talk to me a lot, once i got ready I took off.' I breathed a sigh of relief and we turned to get it. We showed our passes that Samantha had given to us and we were directed towards the front seat. I guess Samantha was one of the lead players. I took my time to compliment both of my friends. Grace was wearing a black full sleeved knee length dress, while Alice was wearing a floral patterned shirt with blue jeans. I guess she decided to keep it casual. They looked lovely anyways.
Soon it was announced that the performances were to start. We impatiently stared at the stage and the curtains were drawn.
There were five girls our age sitting at the back side of the stage with violins and bows in their hands. They all were wearing rust coloured short dresses and looked very pretty. But we couldn't see Samantha anywhere.
'Where is Samantha?' asked Alice looking around the stage. 'I don't know,' said Dawn doing the same. Then it was announced again, 'And now the lead violinist, Samantha White.'
'Samantha's the lead violinist!' Dawn exclaimed. 'Yeah!' I said. An elderly woman beside me shushed us. We muttered our sorrys and sat quietly as Samantha walked towards her seat in the middle front of the stage. She glanced at us, smiled and sat down on her seat, facing the violin now. We proudly watched her. She looked beautiful. She was wearing a black huge dress and her hair were curled to her sides. She gracefully put her violin on her collar bone, lifted the bow and started playing, the girls at the back started playing too and they were really good. They were amazing. I wish her parents could be here to see how beautiful and talented their daughter was. Sadly, they were too busy making money, a thing which she didn't want to have as much as their attention. I could never bear to be in her place. She closed her eyes and everyone in the audience was awestruck at their music. After about half an hour when she finished she stood up, smiled and bowed down. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to click any pictures. The whole auditorium erupted in applause and we even cheered and shouted, 'Go Samipops!' to which Samantha laughed and waved at us. The elderly woman this time just rolled her eyes at us. After the performances ended, we were directed towards a very long table where a lot of dainties were placed. Alice walked towards them and digged in and so did Grace, Samantha joined us after sometime and ate along with them.
'Hey Cheryl, why are you not eating? Only juice?' asked Samantha.
'My mom has made spaghettiiiii,' I sang, 'If I eat right now, I won't be hungry at home.'
She smiled and I saw the tinge of sadness in her eyes, and immediately regretted saying that to her.
'Sam, i'm sorry.'
'Nah, can I join you for the spaghetti? I like it,' she asked. I laughed and nodded excitedly. I called my dad to tell him that I'll come back with Samantha and he didn't need to get me.
We went back home and we all ate dinner together. Samantha looked really happy with us, sometimes I really think of absurd thoughts like for my parents to adopt all my friends. Hehehehe yeah.... I am weird.
Anyways after Samantha left, I called Alice to check if she was okay.
'Hey Alice! Everything okay at home?'
'Cheryl, you're the fourth person calling me from the evening. After I told Aaron about everything before coming to Samantha's violin show, he has checked on me three times by calling me. Can you guys leave me alone?'
I laughed, typical protective Aaron.
I went to sleep after Alice hung up. Monday, even nerds hate you.
