Chapter 2
I felt a wave of relief as soon as I said those three words. I really wanted to continue keeping my secret but I knew the truth couldn't be hidden any longer. Even though it was difficult to tell the truth, it had to be told.
"Elle, this is difficult to take in. I am honestly surprised but I respect your beliefs", Tristen said coolly.
I was surprised by her reaction. I expected her to lash out at me or be angry with me or something like that but she didn't do anything like that.
"Thanks so much, Tristen. I'm glad you still accept me for who I am", I said with a hint of joy in my voice.
"No problem, Elle. I'll always respect your beliefs", Tristen said.
I gave her a quick hug before getting into my car to leave.
Do you know this strange feeling you have when someone is talking about you behind your back but you don't really know who it is? That is exactly how I felt as I sat on the lunch table with Tristen and my other friends.
"Hey, Elle", Gwen said in a fake sweet voice as she stood in front of my lunch table.
I didn't bother to reply.
"I know that Jesus can turn water into wine. I forgot to bring some juice today. So do you think you can pray or whatever you do so that he can turn this bottle of water into juice?" Gwen said.
I stared blankly at her as everyone in the cafeteria burst into laughter.
"I know your dirty little secret, Elle. Everyone knows it", Gwen said with a sly smile on her face.
The only thing that came into my mind was Tristen. I quickly grabbed her hand and led her to the restroom.
