cooler than me

First up to volunteer today was Mike and Tina. The two quickly walked in front of their classmates, their backs to them. Faith could see Mike shaking off his nerves as Mr. Schue sighed at the long wait for them to start. "Whenever you're ready, guys." He said and Santana nodded. "Yeah, hurry up; I needs to get myself to Breadstix."

As soon as the music started Mike turned around to the students and started singing. "See, I really couldn't sing I could never really sing what I couldn't do is"

"Singgg" Tina interrupted. Faith eyes widened as she let out a shocked laugh. This was the first time Mike sang in front of the whole club. Faith didn't waste a second to grab her camera from her bag under her chair, not wanting to miss a second.

Faith filmed Tina and Mike throughout most of their performance and when Mike saw Faith filming, he immediately ran towards her.

Catching Faith by surprise, Mike got right up to the camera and continued to sing. "But what I lack in—" He sang to the camera with comically wide eyes as Tina interrupted. "Pitch!"

Mike ran back towards Tina, pulling up a chair to put in the middle of the room. "I sure make up in..." He sang as he stood on the chair.

"Power!" Tina sang, as Mike stood on the back of the chair. The chair slowly started to fall back until Mike landed gracefully on the floor.

He ran back towards Tina and wrapped an arm around her. "And all my friends say I am perfect for the..." Before Tina could cut him off, Mike put his hand over her mouth and shrieked her words. "Shower!"

Mike removed his arm around Tina as the whole class laughed with the song. Mike went to the piano, grabbing two pieces of paper. He and Tina met back in the middle and Mike handed Tina one of the papers as he sang. "And when Christmas comes, and all my friends go..."

Before Tina could interrupt, she and Mike gestured for the class to sing instead. Faith turned the camera to the class, Sam looking straight at the camera with a smile as everyone sang. "Caroling..."

Mike ran towards Faith, sitting on other side of her and sang to the camera. "It is so disheart—" "Ning!" Tina blurted, popping up from behind Mike.

Mikes eyes widened and he started to run away from Tina but she just followed him. "It is so disquiet—"

"Ting!"

Mikes hands went to the sides of his head. "It is so
discoura—"

"Ging!"

Mike turned to Tina, his back to his classmates. "Darling, please stop answe—"

Tina put her hand over Mikes mouth and peaked out from behind him. "Ring!"

Mike turned back to his class and shrugged. "What I couldn't do is—" Instead of Tina interrupting Mike, the whole class started. They all stomped their feet as Mike ran back towards the chair in the middle of the room. "Sing, sing, sing, sing, sing, sing!"

Mike raised his arms, a big smile on his face as he sang the last line of the song.

"Sing!"

When the song finished, the whole room screamed for them. Mr. Schue laughed at the performance, clapping. "Wow! Now, that is a duet! Thank you, Tina, for introducing us to the amazing voice of Mike Chang!"

The class still cheered and when Tina and Mike turned to Faith, she gave them both a big smile and made a heart with her hands.

...

Faith has never been more disgusted and terrified at the same time than she has been watching Finn and Rachel sing "With You I'm Born Again" dressed as a priest and a schoolgirl.

When the song finshed, no one moved to clap except Mike. Just before his hands could make any sound, Faith grabbed his wrists and pushed his hands back down, shaking her head.

"No. No. Don't clap." She whispered, her eyes still haven't left Finn and Rachel.

Sam was the first to laugh, shaking his head at the two. "That was really rude." He said and everyone nodded in agreement.

"I seriously wanted to punch both of you." Quinn muttered from behind Faith, glaring at them. Faith perked up, turning to Mr. Schue with a raised hand and brow.

"Can I punch Rachel?" She asked and Rachel turned to her, an offered look on her face.

"Hey!" Rachel whined, making Faith scoff out a laugh, looking between her and Finn. "Oh, you can't blame me! Did you even look at your outfits?!" Faith defended herself and Mr. Schue nodded in agreement, sighing at Finn and Rachel. "I have to agree. It's a great duet, but what you guys did with it was... really inappropriate. Your costume choice was a little insensitive. Frankly... I'm disappointed."

"What?!" Rachel shrieked as Finns mouth opened and closed before he just shook his head. "Are you serious? I'm..."

"Shocked." Rachel interrupted, nodding her head as she pouted. "We're... We're shocked. I-I... I really hope that this doesn't cost us the competition."

"Let's sit down. Come." Rachel muttered, grabbing Finns wrist and pulling him to their seats as Mr. Schue walked back towards the front of the class. He clapped and smiled over the students. "Well, getting back on track, who's next?"

Faith turned to Sam and found him already looking at her. Both of them silently asked the other if they were ready to preform and when they both nodded at each other, Sam raised his hand.

Mr. Schue smiled at Sam and Faith. He nodded for them to come into stage as he took Sams spot in the audience.

Faith walked towards the piano Brad sat at and grabbed her guitar. Once she was standing next to Sam, he smiled at his other classmates, his hands clasped together. "Okay, I just want to say I'm really excited, and that I couldn't have asked for a better partner." Sam said, looking down at Faith and giving her a dopey smile, only making her smile back.

Faith put the guitar around her neck and started to play the chords lightly, making sure all of them were in the right tune. Once she felt Sam's hands on her waist, Faith straightened up and started to strum.

The two of them swayed, Faiths back pressed against Sam's chest before he started to sing. "If I could write you a song to make you fall in love, I would already have you up under my arm. I used up all my tricks, I hope that you like this, but, you probably won't, you think you're cooler than me." Sam started, his voice softer and just barely slower than the original version as he removed his hands from Faiths waist and started to walk towards the piano where Brad sat.

Faith took off her guitar and leaned it up against the piano as Sam grabbed the two electric guitars from behind Brad, wrapping one around him as he passed the other to Faith.

At the same time, the two of them plug in their guitars and put on sunglasses. As soon as they started playing, they started to speed up the song on their electric guitars. The whole room gasped and cheered as Sam jutted his hip out in front of him to play better and Faith ran towards her classmates, ending up right in front of Artie as she started to sing.

"You got designer shades just to hide your face and you wear 'em around like you're cooler than me." Faith sang, taking her hands off the guitar for a second to mess with Artie's glasses before she backed up, ending up right next to Sam.

"And you never say hey, or remember my name and it's probably 'cause you think you're cooler than me." Faith sang and just before the next lyrics, they both jumped and did what Sam described as a "cool strut" in sync.

"You got your high brow, switchin' your walk and you don't even look when you pass by..." Sam sang. He stopped playing to jokingly raise his sunglasses and eye Faith. She laughed as they both turned to each other.

"But you don't know the way that you look." They sang to each other.

"When your steps. make. that. much. noise." They continued, lowering to the ground with every syllable they sang.

They shot back up to stand up right when their classmates butted into the song, "shushing" them. Sam took of his guitar, leaning it up against the amp as he turned towards Faith.

"I got you all figured out." Sam sang, walking around Faith as they both sang, Sam's hands trailing across her back as he walked passed her. "You need everyone's eyes just to feel seen."

"Behind your make up." Faith sang, playing her guitar louder as she walked towards Sam. Sam walked backwards as Faith walked towards him until his back hit the piano. "Nobody knows who you even are who do you think that you are?"

Sam smirked at his and Faiths closeness. Their eyes never left each other's as Faith took off her guitar and let the band take over.

"Cause it's your scene. I got no doubt." They sang as Faith put her guitar back next to Brad.

Sam grabbed Faiths hand to help her climb onto the piano bench and then the piano. "We all see."

Faith spun around on the piano. The next move her and Sam never actually practiced, they just talked about it. So she was a little worried. "You got your head in the clouds!" She sang all alone, still spinning until she sang "clouds". Faith stuck her hands out and started to fall back and off the piano.

The room gasped at Faith falling but when Sam caught her bridal style, they all cheered.

"If I could write you a song to make you fall in love, I would already have you up under my arm." Sam sang, his voice slower as the song started to finish. He slowly placed Faith back on the ground, never breaking eye contact.

Even once she was standing on the ground, Faith kept her hands pressed against Sams chest, still slightly dizzy. "I used up all my tricks, I hope that you like this." Faith sang before they both smiled and sang the last line.

"But, you probably won't, you think you're cooler than me."

Faith and Sam kept their eyes on each other, small smiles gracing their faces. They were inches apart and Faith noticed Sam's eyes go back and forth between her eyes and her lips, making Faith take a sharp inhale.

Faith could subtly see Sam move in but before he could do anything, the class erupted in cheers. They jumped apart, turning to the class. Finn, Tina, Mike, Brittany and Mercedes were all standing and cheering for them as everyone else stayed seated, clapping nonetheless.

Mr. Schue laughed, walking up to Sam and Faith and getting in the middle of them. He grabbed both their shoulders and smiled. "Let's give it up for Sam and Faith!"

...

After everyone finsihed performing, Mr. Schue smiled, loving his students enthusiasm when it came to competition. He walked around the room with a hat in hand, letting everyone put their votes inside. "Okay, since Artie and Brittany have dropped out of the race, I guess it's time to take it to a vote."

Mr. Schue walked back towards the piano and started to count the votes. When he finished, he sighed, turning around to his students. "Well, even though it looks like just about everyone voted for themselves. Even those who didn't compete..." Mr. Schue said, eyeing Artie.

"But we do have a winner!" Mr. Schue said, grabbing the Breadstix coupon off the piano and raising it in the air.

Faith grabbed Sams hands, shaking them in excitement. "And the winner is... by two votes..." Mr. Schue said tauntingly, Sam smiling at Faith hyper attitude for the restaurant.

The whole class started a drum roll with their feet before Mr. Schue threw his hands in the air and he announced the winners. "Sam and Faith!"

Sam gasped, shocked he'd actually won. Before he could turn to Faith to celebrate, She had already pulled him into a hug. Sam almost immediately hugged back, still laughing in excitement as Santana stood up, shaking her head. "Screw that! I want my stix!" She yelled, going to jump at Mr. Schue but Mercedes grabbed her arm, shaking her head. "Let it go."

Mr. Schue gestured for Sam and Faith to come up in front of the class and Sam instantly shot up, grabbing Faiths hand and pulling her to the teacher.

Mr. Schue laughed at how happy Faith and Sam were, mostly Faith. He handed Sam the coupon and the class cheered. Sam turned to Faith, smiling down at her as his fingers brushed against hers. He leaned down so his lips were right by her ear and he smiled.

"Here's to our maybe future kiss." He whispered and Faith smiled. she turned to Sam and their faces were so close, their nose is practically brushed against each other. To hide the heat going to her face, Faith smirked at Sam, tilting her head. "We'll see."

...

Throughout their whole dinner, Sam and Faith just talked about anything that came to their minds. When the waiter brought over their second round breadsticks, Sam watched as Faith perked up, grabbing one as soon as the basket touched the table.

Sam laughed at her excitement. He didn't know what the fuss was about the breadsticks. Then again, anytime Faith tried to get him to try one and he shook his head, claiming he didn't want to break his diet.

As he watched Faith grab a breadstick, Sam realized that now could be the perfect moment to ask a question he's been meaning to ask for a while. He had noticed Faith's camera a lot throughout his times of knowing her. He knew she loved film but he didn't know why she always carried around the camera and filmed different moments in the day.

Before he could think about how to properly ask the question, he started speaking. "What's up with the camera?"

Faiths brows furrowed as she smiled at the question. She could feel her cheeks redden in embarrassment as she looked down and shook her head. Sam felt his stomach twist at the sight of Faith. Her hair had fallen in front of her face but he could still see a small blush and smile on her face.

Faith looked back up at Sam and sighed. "I got the camera because when I was younger I always wanted to make films. It would normally only be Tina and Kurt as my cast because they're ere the only people I hung out with. And then I met Artie and he started being in them more too."

Faith bit her bottom lip nervously. She already felt like she was answering a question Sam didn't even ask and her gaze from the boy averted. She turned back to her drink
and kept talking.

"There was this one time when I couldn't think of anything for a film. Weeks I would just stare at my paper trying to think of a film to make and Tina suggested that I just start filming everything so I could use them as scenes later on."

Faith shrugged, a small smile growing on her face. "But I don't know. I guess now I don't use it for scenes. Now it's like a video diary of my life. So when I get older, I can always have them." Faith said, finally looking from her drink to Sam.

Sam watched Faith for a second before he cracked into a grin,
nodding his head. "Alright. Alright. Alright." Sam chuckled out in a Matthew McConaughey impression. He thought what Faith was doing was pretty cool.

A big smile took over Faiths face as she squinted at Sam with an almost shocked look. "Is that... Matthew McConaughey?"

Sam threw his head back, cheering slightly before he turned back to Faith, slapping the table in excitement. A few heads turned to look at the teens but neither of them cared. "Yes! Yes! Oh my God! Thank you. Someone got it! No one ever gets my Matthew impression!" Sam cheered before jokingly bowing down to Faith in his seat.

"My dad would make me watch Matthew McConaughey movies growing up. I even asked him for a dog that we could name McConaughey. He said no." Faith laughed out. She had asked for McConaughey for three years in a row. When every little girl wanted a pony, she wanted that dog.

Shaking off the memory, Faith turned back to Sam. As she looked at him, more specifically his hair, Faith started to hear Kurt's voice in her head, telling her it's fake and dyed.

"I need to know..." Faith started, leaning across the table as she squinted at Sam. The boy straightened up at the look on Faiths face. She looked at him for a few more seconds before looking up at Sams hair. "Is that fake?" She asked, using her breadstick to point at his hair.

Sam groaned at the question, dropping his head onto the table, making Faith laugh. She dropped her breadstick back onto her plate and reached out across the table to Sams hair, ruffling it.

"Oh, come on! I live in a house with Kurt and he won't shut up about his conspiracy that you dye it!" Faith laughed out. Sam lifted his head in defeat and Faith gave him an innocent smile. "I won't tell him." Faith whispered, pretending to zip her mouth shut.

Sam watched Faith for a few seconds before sighing, rolling his eyes. "When I found out I was moving here, I wanted to seem cool, you know? Figured if I looked like Swayze in Point Break, people might think I was a surfer or something."

Faith laughed at his words as she sipped her coca cola. Sam smiled at her laugh, running a hand through his hair. "I didn't think it through very clearly. So... I put lemon juice in my hair. I would have gotten away with it, if it hadn't been for Kurt and his sixth sense."

Faith smiled at Sam pouting, tilted her head. "I think it looks cute." She said and Sam immediately straightened up, his smile doubling in size. "Really?" He asked and Faith laughed, nodding her head as she swirled her straw in her drink. "Yeah. I'd love to see the real color though."
