Chapter 4 | Death Wish
Scott grunted as he slammed into the tree, his head hanging. He looked lifeless as he sat there, his head lowered. I yelled as I tried to unbuckled the seatbelt, but no matter what, it wouldn't budge. The figure started walking towards Scott, it's tall shadowy outline blocking the light from the moon.
"Hey!" I screamed at the person. "Leave him alone!" I didn't want them attacking or hurting Scott, especially since he was passed out.
The persons head whipped towards me, their head tilting a little. I pressed the seatbelt button rapidly, demanding for it to let me go. The person started walking towards me as a drop of blood fell from my forehead. I screamed as the person neared, and I knew that I didn't have long. I couldn't fight or run, so I just had to sit and see what happens.
The person kneeled over, sticking their face in front of the cracked window. Then, I could see that it was a girl; her blonde hair peeking out from underneath her ski mask. I couldn't see her face however, but I could hear her talk.
"Let me help you with that," she laughed while yanking the seat belt off of me. I screamed in pain as she pulled the metal piece out of my leg, blood staining my pants. I whimpered as I fell from my seat, crawling away from the girl. She laughed before grabbing my ankle, something digging into the side of it. I yelled out in pain, demanding for her to let me go.
"Wh-What do you want?" I sobbed as I looked over my shoulder at the girl. She cocked her head to the side, about to answer me before something slammed right into the side of her. She let me go before I scampered away, crawling out of the car from the window.
My head was spinning as I hobbled up, looking around at where the girl went. I finally spotted her when I noticed something tackling her to the ground. I noticed that it was Scott instantly, since he was no longer leaning against the tree.
"Stephen," I breathed before making my way over to him. He was still lying on the street, his eyes latched closed. I mumbled about five different curse words as I kneeled beside him, my leg still bleeding. It didn't hurt as much as it should; probably because of the adrenaline.
The noises coming from in front of me directed my attention away from Stephen. I looked up onto the street to see the lady and Scott still fighting. She threw her leg at Scott while he ducked, grabbing her leg before throwing her backwards. The girl stood up, attacking Scott once again, but he just dodged her. How did Scott learn how to fight so good?
My question stopped short when the girl grabbed Scott by the neck, throwing him in my direction. He skidded to a halt next to me, sitting up slowly. He was hurt. The girl walked after him, determined to finish him off. I stood up, standing between the two of them.
"What do you want?" I asked once again. She stopped about three feet in front of me, her chest heaving breaths.
"I just want Scott," she said through gritted teeth. Scott moved around a little bit behind me before I continued.
"Why?" I pleaded. "What do you want with him?"
The girls' eyes narrowed. "I want him dead."
She started to run forward before I stepped in front of her. She didn't think twice before grabbing me by the neck, something digging into it. Blood trickled down my chest as she lifted me upward, taking my breath away. I gasped for air, but it was no use.
"Should've stayed out of my way," she snarled. I heard Scott stand up from behind me before leaping on top of the girl. She let out a growl as Scott thrashed at her, using his hands to hold her down. I was frozen in place as Scott mangled the girl in front of me, blood flying left and right.
"Scott-" I started to say as I reached for his shoulder. I knew by now he must have killed the girl, since there was a pool of blood lying below him. Scott whipped around and stared me straight in the eyes. I gasped at what I saw.
Scott's eyes were a deep red and his face was formed into something monstrous. I couldn't quite describe it, but it was terrifying. I then noticed that his fingernails were no longer there, but instead a set of long, sharp claws were there. Canines were poking up through his teeth also, making him look even scarier than what he already was.
"Sarah-" he said while standing up, stepping over the girls body before walking towards me. My chest was taking short and rapid breaths as I backed up, getting as much distance between Scott and I as possible. I whimpered when I fell over something, noticing that it was Stephen.
"Wh-What are you?" I asked as he looked down on me. His face was no longer disfigured, but his eyes were still burning a deep red. He reached out and tried to help me stand back up, but I just scooted away from him farther.
"I won't hurt you," he said while kneeling, his eyes now back to their normal shade of brown.
"I asked..." I said sternly. "What are you."
Scott only stared at me, not taking his eyes off of me once. I froze when his eyes trailed down to my thigh, which no longer hurt. "Wait..."
"What?" I asked before grabbing my leg, pulling up my pant leg before seeing that my wound from before was gone. Nothing there. Not even a scar. "This doesn't make sense..."
The car in front of us caught aflame, the light illuminating around us. I screamed as Scott took off towards the car, crawling back inside. A tear ran down my cheek before I crawled back towards Stephen, slightly smacking his cheek so he'd wake up. I needed him right now.
"Stephen!" I screamed in his face after he didn't wake up. I set my head on his chest, making sure that he was still breathing. I felt for a pulse after that, feeling one that was very weak. I pulled out my now cracked phone from my pocket and dialed 911.
Just then I saw Scott coming back toward me, dragging Kira and Vanesa on his shoulders. He set them both down beside Stephen before running back towards the car, which was still burning a bright flame. Kira mumbled something before siting up in an instant.
"Sarah? What's going on?" She said before seeing the burning car. She gasped before turning towards me, looking down at Vanesa and Stephen.
"Are you okay?" I asked her as Stephen's head lied in my lap.
She grabbed her head. "I think so." She looked back at the car,"What happened?"
I moved Stephen around some more, trying to get him to wake up. "There was someone in the middle of the road and we wrecked."
"What? Who was in the road?" Kira asked as blood ran down her face.
"She's right over-" I started to say before I had to look again. Where the girl lie only a few moments ago, was no longer there. Instead, there was a huge pool of blood taking her spot. I looked around, making sure that she wasn't about to creep up on us. She must have left, knowing that she'd lost this time. But she'll be back. I know it.
Scott grunted as he set Zach down next to Vanesa, ash covering both of their faces. I flinched when the burning car in front of me exploded, but we were far enough away that it wouldn't hurt us. Scott stared off into space as he sat down on the pavement below, his chest expanding inward and outward.
"Thank you," Kira said while looking at Scott. She faintly smiled at him before he finally looked up, his eyes flicking between Kira and I.
"No problem," Scott said before his eyes stopped on me. I swallowed before nodding, staring at Scott.
"Thanks," I managed to say, but I couldn't explain or tell what I was thinking. I didn't want Kira to know, and I definitely wasn't going to bring it up, at least not around anyone else except Scott and I. Everyone else would think I'm crazy.
Red and blue lights flashed in front of me as an ambulance and a few other cars pulled up. A couple of guys ran over to us, helping us up and checking to make sure we were alright. They took Stephen from me, and they separated the rest of us. Scott kept looking at me as they checked over us all, looking at me as if I was about to tell the whole world what I saw.
I didn't even know what to think, nor what to say to him. I have a million questions running though my mind right now, and I wanted them all to disappear. What is Scott? Is Stephen and my step-parents going to be okay? And then there was one thing I couldn't keep off my mind.
What was I?

My eyes opened. I looked around, seeing nothing but white. Where was I? What's going on?
"Sarah..." A whisper called. It sounded creepy. Too creepy. I looked to my left and to my right, seeing nothing other than white. I looked down at myself and saw that I was wearing a hospital gown, blood covering it. I gasped as I tried to wipe the blood off, but caused my hands to stain crimson.
"Sarah..." I heard the whisper again. It sounded closer this time, almost right next to my ear. I looked around once again, seeing something out in the blank space. It was a person standing there, watching me. I couldn't see who it was.
"Who are you?" I called to them. They just stood there and stared at me, their arms folded in front of them. I took a step toward them, hearing someone whisper my name once again, but this time it was behind me.
I whipped around, seeing another figure standing there. This time I could see who it was. It was Stephen.
"What's going on?" I asked as I walked over to him. He didn't move a muscle as I stood in front of him. I reached up with my hand, noticing that it was no longer covered in blood. I snapped in Stephens face, trying to get him to do something.
A laugh. "Sarah!" It sounded like something from a horror movie. I turned around once again, seeing that the other figure was closer to me this time. I took a step back, getting more scared by the second. They just kept staring at me.
"Watch out Sarah," someone whispered again.
"Who is that!" I yelled into empty space. I looked around furiously, trying to figure out what was going on. That was when I saw my mother. "Mom?"
"Sarah," she said while grinning, outstretching her arms. I ran to her, embracing her in a hug. I never wanted to let her go, her sweet smell wafting my nostrils. I screamed when I looked back at her face.
Pouring from her eyes and nose was blood. It started off being a red color, but then turned to a deep black. My mother reached up and touched the blood before looking down at her hands. Her eyes got wide as more blood poured from her ears as well. She collapsed to the ground, her body shaking. But then all of a sudden I blinked, and she was gone. Not even a trace.
"Sarah," someone taunted again. I whipped around once again to see Stephen still standing there. He smiled at me before something from behind him wrapped around his neck, blood oozing. He choked before clasping his hands to his neck, falling to the ground, dead.
"Stephen!" I screamed before a saw another figure standing behind him. I couldn't see their face, but their hands were covered in blood and they had a huge smirk plastered on their face. I was terrified at what I saw. It looked like a monster.
The figure stepped closer to me, their head lowered. I backed up slowly, getting as much distance between the two of us as possible. They raised their head and stared at me with their red glowing eyes, and that was when I saw who it was.
Scott McCall.
"Scott," I breathed as he stepped over Stephen's dead body. I saw that Stephen's eyes were now glazed over, and there was a puddle of blood surrounding him. He was definitely dead.
"Sarah," Scott said as he looked down at his hands. He looked scared for a split second, but then it was gone. Like he wasn't in control. He looked back up at me and smiled; his teeth covered in blood. He whispered.
"Run."
I screamed as he ran towards me, thrashing his claws at my face. I turn and ran as fast as I could away from him, but there was no point. I felt a sharp pain etch across my back as Scott made contact, making me fall forward in pain.
I flipped over on my back to see Scott jump on top of me, holding me down. He clasped his hands around my neck, his claws digging into my skin. I whimpered in pain, but I knew that I didn't have much time left. A tear ran down my cheek as Scott lifted his hand up, a grin on his face. He swung at me before I closed my eyes.
"Sarah."
"Sarah."
"Wake up."
I screamed as I sat up, a hand coming over my mouth. I widened my eyes as I looked around, seeing Scott sitting next to me. I noticed that I was wearing a hospital gown before I scooted away from him, his face showing sadness.
"What do you want with me?" I pleaded as I brought my knees to my chest, soft sobs escaping my mouth.
Scott leaned forward in his chair. "I just want to talk."
