two.

Olive and Cameron had been at the party almost an hour before Jeremiah, Conrad, and Steven got there. She was at the cup pong table, going up against a boy from her school when Steven and Jeremiah joined her, Steven joining her team while Jeremiah joined the boys.

The game got a bunch of people's attention, a crowd now formed around the four playing.

Both sides were down to one cup. It was Jeremiah and the boys turn first. Jeremiah was the one throwing. He positioned the ball in front of his eyes to try and get the perfect spot, but when he threw it, he missed.

The crowd erupted in cheers and and yells as Olive and Steven turned to each other. Steven raised both of his hands for a double high five and when Olive went to return it, Steven interlaced their fingers, smiling down at Olive who was practically jumping in excitement.

He stared at her for a second before he shook his head. He let go of her hands and bent down to grab the fallen ping pong ball. He stood back up and handed it to Olive.

Olive took the ball proudly and faced the opponents. Steven went behind Olive and started rubbing her shoulders. He was jumping as Olive tried to aim. "You've got this in the bag, Ollie." Steven whispered, tilting his head down to her ear so only she could hear it.

Olive felt a chill go down her spine. She threw a smile over her shoulder to Steven before she turned back to the cup across from her.

She threw the ball and felt Stevens hands leave her shoulders as they watched it fly through the air. When the ball landed in the cup, the whole crowd erupted in cheers.

Olive threw her fists in the air as she felt arms snake around her waist and lift her off the ground. Olive yelled before laughing as Steven spun her around, screaming.

"Let's go, Ollie!" Steven hollered, putting her back down. Steven grabbed Olive's belt loop on her skirt and pulled it, spinning her around so she could face him, his hands staying glued to her waist.

"That was awesome." Steven said, his voice low and quiet so only she could hear him. Olive felt her cheeks burn and she was glad it was already dark so he couldn't see her blush. Olive playfully rolled her eyes as she shrugged. "It was nothing."

Steven smiled as he looked down at her, letting out a small breath as he shook his head. "It was not nothing." He whispered and Olive felt herself relax. She didn't even know she was tense. She watched as Steven's eyes trailed along her face, his eyes stopping when they found her lips.

Olive felt her breath hitch, she could've sworn she saw him leaning in before someone tapped Stevens shoulder.

Olive watched the once awe look across Stevens face evaporate as he turned around to see who tapped him. Olive and Steven looked at a girl Olive knew as Shayla smile up at him.

"Hey, I'm Shayla." The girl said and quickly, Steven's hands left Olive's waist. Olive felt her stomach churn as Steven turned his full attention to Shayla, a small, nervous smile taking over his face.

Olive watched as Steven and Shayla spoke with big smiles and laughs passing through their lips with her own frown. She walked away and went to head back towards Cameron before she noticed Belly standing over Conrad and Nicole. Olives brows furrowed as she walked towards the three.

"I thought you hated the Red Sox." Belly snapped just as Olive got up to her. Olive grabbed Belly's hand, ready to apologize for the girls outburst before Nicole spoke up.

"Who are you?" Nicole asked and Belly let out an annoyed chuckle, tilting her head. "Who are you?"

Olive tried to tug the girl away, but Belly was surprisingly a lot stronger than she looked.

"Nicole. Conrad and I went to the deb ball together last summer." Nicole explained, a smile on her face that Olive knew she was using to piss Belly off. Olive watched as Belly's shoulders slumped, turning to Conrad.

"It was after you guys left to take Steven to look at colleges." Conrad explained and Olive felt Belly's body tensed. Olive's eyes widened, going to try and pull Belly away again but no budge.

"I thought you said that deb balls are bullshit, and all debs are sheep." Belly said and Olive let go, groaning to herself as Conrad's mouth opened and closed, now both Nicole and Belly glaring at him.

"I didn't... You're such a brat!" Conrad snapped and almost instantly, Belly snapped back. "Well, you're an asshоlе."

"Belly!" Jeremiah cheered, pulling the four out of the tense air. Jeremiah's scream caught Steven's attention from Shayla and he immediately ran over, the girl following behind him.

Belly turned her head to Jeremiah as he wrapped an arm around her shoulders, a big smile on his face. "You came! Great, we can all hang out, you guys."

"No. Nope!" Steven announced as he and Shayla finally reached the group. "I'm about to take her home." He said and Belly, Olive, and Jeremiah's faces fell.

"What?" Olive asked and Steven nodded, grabbing Belly's wrist. "Yeah, we're leaving." He said and Belly scoffed, pulling her hand out of Steven's grip.

"Are you kidding me?" Belly yelled and Olive quickly stood in front of Belly almost protectively.

"Okay, Steven, chill out. Go... go hang out with Shayla or something." Olive said, pointing at the girl behind him. Steven looked back and forth between Olive and Shayla before he decided to keep his eyes on Olive.

Olive rose her brows, silently asking him "what?". Steven didn't move, keeping his eyes on her before he sighed, shaking his head.

"Fine." Steven grumbled before he leaned passed Olive so he was closer to Belly. "But just stay right here and don't talk to anybody." Steven warned, getting right in Belly's face. Olive scoffed, pushing Belly behind her again as she glared at Steven. "Oh, back off. We got her." Olive snapped.

Steven stepped back at Olives words, shocked with her tone. He'd never seen her actually look and be pissed at him. He didn't know what he did to make her so upset so he shook his head, figuring the girl was just drunk and walking away with Shayla.

Olive heard Belly grumble something under her breath before she flipped Stevens back off with both hands. "Fuck you!" She screamed, making Jeremiah laugh.

Jeremiah grabbed Belly's shoulders and turned her around so she was facing him and Olive. "Listen, for one, I'm really happy you're here." He said before a girl behind him called his name. The three turned around and watched a girl Olive couldn't recognize wave him over.

Jeremiah chuckled, turning back to Olive and Belly. He pointed his thumb to the girls and smiled. "I will be right back." He said, running to the girl. Olive rolled her eyes at Jeremiah as Belly watched her, worried that she would walk away too.

"Sorry if I made you leave whatever guy you were hanging out with." Belly said and Olive turned back to Belly, a confused yet soft expression on her face. Olive shook her head, smiling.

"Please. I was just gonna head over to Cam." Olive said before an idea popped into her head. A small smile grew on her face as she turned to Belly. "How about you finally meet him?" Olive asked suspiciously. Before Belly could answer, Olive grabbed Belly's hand and pulled her towards the boy, Belly letting out a quiet, "Oh... Okay." as they walked.

"Cami!" Olive sang once they reached the boy sitting alone at the shore. Cameron turned around, smiling to Olive before his eyes fell on Belly. Olive watched as his eyebrows furrowed. "Flavia?" He asked.

The two girls stopped walking, both of their faces scrunched in confusion. "What?" Belly asked and Cameron chuckled, moving around so he was facing them.

"Hi. It's me, Sextus." Cameron said, pointing at himself. Olive's looked at her friend like he was crazy, not wanting him to embarrass her in front of Belly.

"What did you just call yourself?" Olive asked and Cameron rolled his eyes at Olive, turning to just Belly. "No, no, no, no. Sex-tus. From seventh grade Latin convention. You're Flavia, right? You placed second in the poem recitation." Cameron asked and Olive watched as realization finally hit her face.

"Oh, yeah. You, uh, you-you dressed up for the costume contest, right?" Belly laughed out, sitting down next to Cameron as Olive started to smile.

"You guys know each other..." Olive whispered, smirking as she slowly walked away. "I'll leave you two alone." She muttered so neither of would actually hear her and break up their conversation.

She went towards the bonfire, trying to recognize anyone from school to hang out with but instead, her eyes found Steven and Shayla. Steven putting a strand of Shayla's hair behind her ear as the other hand rested on her waist.

Olive felt her heart sink slightly. She didn't like watching Steven with another girl, but then again, she couldn't blame him. It's not like she ever tried to show him she liked him and she doesn't expect him to read her mind. She got her hopes up though. Especially after what had happened after cup pong.

"You want a beer?" A voice asked from beside Olive. She turned her head and saw a very drunk man, definitely over 21, offering her a can of an already opened beer.

Olive could see all the red flags from a mile away and shook her head. "No thanks. I'm good."

The guy laughed, taking another step towards her. Olive instantly took a step back, but the guy was too drunk to notice. "Come on! Loosen up! I'm sure you'll love it." He slurred and Olive gave him a tight smile, trying her hardest to stay polite so he didn't get aggressive.

"No, really. I'm okay." She said again as she visibly tensed. The guy chuckled, but it was a happy laugh anymore. Olive knew he was starting to get annoyed. His face fell to a glare as he raised the beer, trying to bring it to Olive's lips.

"Don't be such a bitch and take the fuckin-" The man was cut off by someone gently grabbing Olives shoulders, pushing her back. Olive looked up and her eyes widened at Conrad.

"She said no, man." Conrad said and the guy scoffed. "What's your problem, man? It's a party. Relax. The bitch can have one beer." The guy yelled and Conrad immediately pushed him back. "Stop calling her a bitch!" Conrad snapped as the guy stumbled slightly.

Olive heard the man growl as he started to stand back up. The man was practically fuming as he ran towards Conrad. He went to throw a punch to Conrad's face, but Conrad ducked, dodging it.

But since Olive was right behind Conrad, the man's fist made contact with Olive's face.

Olive fell to the ground and Conrad immediately turned around to her. "Fuck! Ollie!" Conrad yelled, catching Jeremiah's attention. Jeremiah ran towards Olive as Conrad turned back to the man, now just as mad as him.

As Conrad and the boy started to fight. Jeremiah grabbed Olives shoulders, pulling her back so he wasn't as close to the fight before he knelt down beside her, his eyes scanning over his face. "Holy shit. Ollie, are you okay?"

Olives head was pounding, but she nodded nonetheless. She watched as Belly and Cameron ran up to her and Jeremiah as police sirens started to ring through the beach.

Olive turned her head and watched as two police cars started driving towards them on the sand.

"Cops!" The man that punched Olive screamed, stopping his fight with Conrad and running away. Olive scrambled up, her and Jeremiah running up to Conrad to help him up.

"We gotta get out of here." Jeremiah said and Conrad nodded.

"Come on. Get in the car. Watch your head." Jeremiah said as he helped lead Conrad into the backseat of the car next to Olive.

"I know how to get into a car." Conrad groaned and Olive snickered. Conrad turned to Olive, raising his hand and pushing her head. Olive smacked Conrad's hand away, laughing as she rolled down her window where Belly and Cameron were.

"Belly. Let's go. Get in." Jeremiah said from the drivers seat, the front passenger window rolled down.

Belly looked back and forth between Jeremiah and Cameron before pointing at Cameron. "Cam can give me a ride home. Right, Cam?" She asked and Cameron instantly started nodding his head.

"Yes. That's no problem." Cameron smiled out. Jeremiah's face was stone cold, shaking his head, his main attention back on Belly. "No, you're not gonna get in a car with a guy you just met."

"He's Ollie's friend, Jere. He's good." Belly tried to defend. Jeremiah's head whipped around to Olive in the back passenger seat. He raised his brows and tilted his head at Olive. "How do you know he's good?" Jeremiah asked and Olive gave the boy an uncomfortable smile, squinting at him. "Uh... because I lived with him before I lived with you guys?"

"I'm Cam. Cameron." Cam said, deciding whether it's because he's best friends with Olive or likes Belly, it'd be a good decision to introduce himself.

"Your name is Cam Cameron?" Jeremiah asked, his brows raised. Olive's head fell. She shook her head and even though she couldn't see him, Olive knew Cam started shaking his head crazily, his embarrassed smile taking over his face.

"No, it's ju-just Cam. But we actually, we know each other. Seventh grade. Latin convention. So, like, we're not total strangers." Cameron said and Jeremiah sighed. He turned around to face Olive. "If he's your friend and he drove you here, why isn't he driving you home?" Jeremiah asked and Olive chuckled.

"Oh, if he's driving her home, I... don't want the ride anymore." Olive said, shaking her head quickly. She loves both of them to death, but she'd rather not third wheel. Jeremiah's eyes widened, taking Olive's comment as "Cam will make a move on her". Jeremiah turning to Belly and Cameron as he pointed at Olive. "See? That. That I don't trust. Okay. No offense, but no. Belly, get in the car."

"Uh, you should probably go." Cameron blurted, making the three in the car plus Belly turn to him. He started to smile at Belly and even though it was dark, Olive could see Cameron's cheeks pink up. "But, um, the whaling boat that I intern on, it leaves at dawn every morning from the piers. I was wondering if you would, uh, want to come?"

"Cam, dude. This is painful!" Olive yelled. Cameron whipped his head to his best friends rolled down window, giving her wide eyes. "Shut up, Liv!" Cameron whisper yelled. Both Conrad and Jeremiah turned to Olive with confused looks.

"Liv?" They asked at the same time. Olive ignored the boys, wanting to watch Belly and Cam interact.

"Uh, yeah, yes, sure. I mean, how else will you get your hoodie back, right?" Belly rambled and Olive cringed slightly at her. Cameron nodded crazily, just as awkward, making Olive roll her eyes and lean back into Conrad's shoulder beside her.

"My two best friends are being the most awkward people I've ever seen. I don't know who to make fun of." She muttered. She looked up at Conrad and saw his almost glare on his face at her words. Olives face falter as she cleared her throat and awkwardly looked away.

She looked out the window just as Belly went on her toes to kiss Cameron. Olive gasped, clapping quietly. "Oh! Go Cam!" She whispered but the two outside of the car could still hear her considering her window was down and they were leaning on her door.

When they pulled away, Cameron smiled at Belly as she scrambled into the seat in front of Olive. Cameron turned to Olives window, resting his elbow on it.

"Text me when you get to the house." Cameron said and Olive nodded, giving him a little salute and a big childish grin. "I will." Olive said in a sing song tone and Cameron started to walk away.

When Jeremiah started to drive away, Olive's brows furrowed, realizing Steven wasn't in the car. "Hey, Jere?" Olive asked earning a small "hm?" from the boy. He turned to look at Olive from the rearview mirror.

"Where's Steven?" Olive asked and suddenly Olive flew forward. Jeremiah had slammed his foot on the breaks. Conrad and Olive groaned, both of their heads hitting the backs of the front seats.

"Fuck!" Jeremiah yelled, getting out of the car. He walked around to Olives door and opened it. "Come on, Ollie. We'll go look for him." Jeremiah said, nodding his head out of the car.

As Olive got out, Jeremiah turned to Belly from the passenger seat. "Watch Conrad. We'll be right back." He said and Belly nodded. Jeremiah shut the door for Olive once she was outside and the two started walking back to where they last saw Steven and Shayla.

Jeremiah and Olive barely made it that far from the car before a police car pulled up to them.

After getting stopped by the officers, Olive and Jeremiah led them back to the car where Conrad and Belly were and when they found out Steven was still missing, the officers helped the four look for him.

Now, Olive, Belly, Jeremiah, Conrad, and Steven stood behind Laurel as she talked to the officers that followed the kids home. Olive watched the floor as she traced out invisible doodles with her foot.

"Officers, thank you. It won't happen again, I can promise you that much." Laurel said and Olive looked up as one of the officers smiled. "Tell Mr. Fisher the chief wants to set up a tee time when he gets back in town."

Olive watched the back of Laurel's head as she nodded.  "Absolutely. Sorry again for all the trouble. Have a good night, Officers." She said, leading the officers out the door.

When she closed the door, Laurel turned back to the teens and Olive's eyes were right back onto the floor.

"How could you guys be so irresponsible?" Laurel whisper yelled. From beside Olive, Steven shook his head at his mom. "Mom, it wasn't a big deal. All right? Seriously. The cops were just looking to break up the bonfire."

Olive looked at the woman through her lashes and watched Laurel's jaw drop at her sons words. "Not a big deal?" She asked, looking at the five kids like they were crazy before she crossed her arms. "I would say getting picked up by the cops for underage drinking is a pretty big deal, Steven."

Olive shot her head up so she could look at Laurel fully as she quickly raised her hand. "Uh... I didn't drink!" Olive blurted loudly. Steven quickly elbowed Olive in the rib, causing the girl to groan before Steven noticed the smell of weed in the house.

"Were-were you guys, you guys smoking tonight?" Steven asked and Laurel's once anger demeanor faltered. She opened and closed her mouth before she straightened up, her mean look coming back in seconds. "What? Keep your voice down. Susannah's asleep on the couch."

Steven's jaw dropped, easing his hands in surrender. He looked around at the other kids before turning back to his mom. "I wasn't yelling!" Steven whisper yelled.

Laurel's eyes widened, trying to think of something to say before ultimately pointing at Olive. "Ollie was." Laurel said. Olive was taken aback. She shook her head in shock, looking to Laurel with wide eyes.

"What?" Olive whispered in panicked as Jeremiah rose his hand from the other side of Steven. "Just so you know, Laurel, I-I also didn't drink tonight. I was the DD, I swear."

Laurel rolled her eyes, ignoring Jeremiah and Olive. She turned to Conrad and took a couple steps towards him, a disappointed look across her face. "You're the oldest. What the hell's gotten into you?" She asked before turning to Belly. "And when did you leave the house without telling anybody? And what in the world are you wearing?"

Belly crossed her arms over her chest, not meeting her moms eyes. "It's Taylor's." She muttered before she turned to Laurel, throwing her hands in the air. "And why am I the only one who's not allowed to go out?"

Laurel shut her eyes and sighed. "It's not that you're not allowed, it's that you should have told us you were going. How did you even get there?" She asked and Belly's eyes left her mothers again.

"I walked." Belly grumbled under her breath. Olive heard the girl and looked at her with wide eyes. "Belly!" Olive cursed. If Olive knew Belly was planning on sneaking out, she would've made Cameron go back to the beach house so they could pick her up.

Laurel held the same expression as Olive as she looked at her daughter. "Jesus. You know better than to walk that far down the beach alone late at night."

"Can you stop treating me like a kid?" Belly yelled. Olive whipped her head around to see if Belly had woken Susannah up as Laurel scoffed. "If you want to be treated like an adult, you need to act like one."

"Then maybe you guys should, too!" Belly snapped. Olive felt her stomach drop at Belly's words. She turned to her and gave Belly an "are you kidding me?" look, shocked that Belly would yell that to her mom.

"What does that mean?" Laurel snapped, but Belly slumped, not wanting to speak any further. Olive's eyes fell back onto the ground, not wanting Laurel to turn her anger to her. When no one spoke up, Laurel scoffed. "I hope you realize this night could have ended a lot differently if your family wasn't your family."

Olive looked up to Laurel who had just turned to her. Laurel sighed, her eyes falling on the bruise already forming under Olive's eye. "I won't tell your folks about this, Ollie. But you have to be more careful. I mean look at your face."

Olive nodded at the woman's words, grateful she wasn't going to tell her parents. She felt Steven's eyes on her, more specifically her bruise as she spoke up. "We're sorry, Laur."

Laurel sighed, shaking her head. "Just... go to bed, guys." She muttered, not meeting any of the teens eyes.

Olive instantly turned around and headed up the stairs. She went straight to her room and stood and her mirror hung up in the corner of her room.

Olive sighed at the pink blob forming on her cheekbone. She heard a knock on her door and look through he reflection in the mirror to see who it was since her door was still open.

She turned around to Steven who was still watching her bruise. "Are you okay?" Steven asked, pointing at his own eye to reference hers. Olive shrugged her shoulders, walking towards the foot of her bedpost, leaning on it. "Could be better."

Steven sighed, walking further into Olives room. He walked up to the desk that was across her bed, leaning on it so he was facing her. "I'm sorry I wasn't there." Steven said and Olive looked away from the boy, shrugging.

"It's okay. You were... with Shayla." Olive said, pressing her lips into a thin line, making Steven gulp. He shook his head, pushing himself off of her desk so he was closer to her. "I still should've been there, Ollie. I'm sorry I wasn't." Steven said again.

Olive felt her heartbeat across her body. She nodded at his words and before she knew it, Steven wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into a hug.

Olive returned to hug. She felt Steven rest his cheek on the top of her head before he pulled away, mumbling a small goodnight before he walked out of her room and closed her door.
