three.
When Olive woke up the next morning, she didn't even have to look at her cheekbone to know the bruise probably looked a lot worse than when she had fallen asleep.
Olive climbed out of bed and grabbed her claw clip off her nightstand before heading to the bathroom, putting her hair up as she walked.
It was very rare if the bathroom was empty considering it's for five teenagers so Olive wasn't surprised that Steven was in there, brushing his teeth.
Steven gave Olive a small, toothpaste-y smile as she walked in, her bruise was the first thing his eyes fell on, but he quickly looked into her eyes so she wouldn't notice. "Hey, Ollie." He cheered, his mouth full of toothpaste.
Olive laughed at Steven before she felt pain in her cheekbone from her bruise. Olive winced quietly, looking away from Steven. Olive blinked a couple times. She knew she got punched, but she didn't think it'd hurt that much.
"Good morning." Olive sang sweetly, looking back up to Steven, trying to give him the best smile she could without wincing from her bruise.
She grabbed her toothbrush from the toothbrush holder and put some toothpaste on it before she started to brush her teeth. Steven watched Olive from the mirror for about ten seconds before he turned to look down at her.
"You gonna make your infamous sunny side ups for the first morning at the beach house?" Steven asked, raising his brows.
Olive immediately nodded, looking up at him. "Oh, of course. Those are my specialty. Pretty sure I'm only here to make everyone breakfast." Olive joked, trying her hardest to enunciate as best she could since she was still brushing her teeth.
"Obviously." Steven shot back as he spat out his toothpaste. Olive pushed her shoulder into his, making the boy laugh. When he finished brushing his teeth, Steven sat on the covered toilet, figuring he'd wait for Olive to finish her morning routine so they could both go down to the kitchen together.
When Olive finished brushing her teeth and started grabbing the colorful bottles from the corner of the counter, Steven's brows furrowed. "What's that?" He asked.
Olive looked at the boy from the mirror as she opened the bottle and put some of the cream in her hand. "Cleanser." She said, turning on the faucet and putting a little bit of water in her hands.
Steven was only more confused. "What's that?" He asked again just before Olive's hands reached her face. Olive froze, looking back up at Steven's reflection in the mirror. "You don't use... cleanser?"
"Nope." Steven said casually, shaking his head. Olive tilted her head at the boy. He had to use something. "Moisturizer?"
"Nuh uh." Steven said and Olives eyes widened. She now turned to face him directly. "Toner?"
"Don't even know what that is." Steven said, a small, amused smile on his face as he watched Olive's reaction. Her eyes scanned over his face. It was so nice. What does he use to keep it that way??
"What do you wash your face with?" Olive asked, squinting at the boy. Her attention was now completely away from her face, her eyes staying on Steven.
Steven pursed his lips and looked towards the sink. He leaned over and grabbed the bottle of hand soap. "This."
Olives jaw slacked. She blinked a couple times before she shook her head wildly. "What the fuck? There's no way."
"It's the truth, Ollie." Steven said, putting the soap back. Steven turned back Olive, who still watched him baffled. He titled his head and smirked, holding up three fingers "Scouts honor."
Olive shook her head again, looking to her routine. "I can't have that. I will not let you ruin that pretty face of yours." Olive said and Steven's smirk grew bigger. He felt a small flutter in his stomach, but shook it off as he put a hand to his chest. "Pretty? You think I'm pretty?"
Olive rolled her eyes and turned back to the mirror. She didn't answer as she started to wash her face. "You and I are gonna go shopping. I'll get you everything you need and I'll show you how to use everything." Olive said and she saw Steven smile through the mirror.
Olive looked back to her own reflecting as she started to blush. Luckily, her hands were covering her face since she was washing it so Steven didn't notice,
When Olive finished her morning routine, her and Steven headed towards the kitchen. Olive could hear someone follow them down the stairs. She turned around to see who it was and saw it was Jeremiah. When Olive walked into the kitchen, she saw Laurel sitting at the kitchen island. Olive mumbled a small good morning to the woman and grabbed all the ingredients she'd need to make sunny side ups for everyone.
As she started to cook the eggs, Steven and Jeremiah slowly started to come up behind her, watching her make the food as if it was the easiest thing in the world.
"You three, Susannah wants new portraits of everyone so you have to dine a couple hours in the summer to sit for her." Laurel said and Jeremiah groaned.
"Do we really have to physically sit for our portraits? Can't she just... look at the picture?" Jeremiah asked not turning around to face the woman, his eyes on the sunny side ups Olive started to make.
Olive groaned at not just Jeremiah, but Steven as well since they were both watching her cook from over her shoulders. She moved her shoulders around, hinting she wanted space and hitting both of them under their chins. "Both of you are hovering. Get off!" Olive snapped.
Steven only took half a step back while Jeremiah walked away from Olive, giving her space as he now gave his full attention to Laurel.
"She needs to see you in the flesh in order to capture your essence. While you're still young and full of hope." Laurel explained and Olive giggled, leaning back into Steven a little bit since he was practically pressed against her back.
"Spooky." Olive muttered, still loud enough for Laurel to hear. She felt Steven laugh against her back as Laurel snorted.
"Her words." Laurel defended and Jeremiah chuckled. "Well, Conrad does not have hope actually. He's hopeless. But, my hangover smoothie cures all." Jeremiah hummed. Olive didn't even have to look at the boy, knowing he had a cocky smirk spread across his face.
"Then, how about you go and make it and get Steven to help so he's not stand over my shoulder while I make your breakfast?" Olive asked, turning around to send a glare to Steven. When she turned to face the boy, their noses almost touched from how close he was to her.
She felt Steven's breath hitch against her and Olive's glare fell. She felt butterflies erupt in her stomach. Her eyes stayed on Steven's eyes, but Steven's eyes fell to Olive's lips just like they had last night before.
Olive suddenly felt a sense of deja vu as Jeremiah tapped Steven's shoulder and just like that, he turned away as if nothing happened. Olive blinked in shock. How could that happen twice in not even 24 hours?
"Can you please just hurry up?" Conrad yelled from the couch, wanting his hangover smoothie.
"Just go back to bed, all right?" Jeremiah snapped at his brother, he and Steven starting to make the smoothie for him.
"She hasn't painted you guys since you were little and she's never painted Ollie yet! I'm sure it'll be nice to have these paintings when you're older" Laurel tried to explain.
Steven scoffed out a laugh. "Old? No, when I'm older I'm sure there'll be like... holograms or something I can watch myself on, you know?"
Jeremiah turned on the blender, making Olive jump. She could faintly hear Laurel scoff. "Just sit for your portraits. I don't see Conrad or Olive complaining." Laurel groaned out as Jeremiah turned off the blender.
"He'll complain when he's conscious!" Jeremiah defended, heading towards his older brother with the hangover smoothie in hand as Olive placed one of the done eggs on a plate and walked towards Laurel. "I for one am very excited." Olive said, giving the woman a big smile as she handed her her food.
Steven rolled his eyes, watching as Olive turned back around to the stove to finish the rest of the eggs. "You're just trying to earn brownie points!" Steven snapped before turning to Jeremiah. "Come on, man. Hurry your ass up! All right, I can't be late for my first day of work." Steven complained as the other eggs finished.
Olive quickly plated them as Jeremiah came back into the kitchen. "We won't. We're good, man." Jeremiah said, taking one of the plates from Olive's hands to eat. Olive left a plate beside Laurel for herself before walking towards the living room. She handed Steven his plate as she passed him.
When Olive got to Conrad on the couch, drinking his smoothie, Conrad raised his hand and groaned, insinuating he didn't want the food. Olive shrugged, thinking nothing of it as she walked back towards the kitchen.
"Those old country club boomers are gonna tip me so hard, man. They won't know what hit them!" Steven cheered, putting his hand on his pants and thrusting. Olive walked passed him and snickered, taking the seat beside Laurel to eat her food, placing the one that would've been for Conrad next to her for when Belly wakes up.
Laurel frowned at the bruise forming on Olive's face. She gently reached up and touched the dark splotch, making Olive hiss in pain.
"Oh, sweetheart... What happened?" Laurel asked gently, combing stray strands of Olive's hair behind her ear. Olive scoffed, cutting her egg. "An asshole happened." Olive grumbled, before taking a bite of her food.
Steven scoffed, cutting into his egg as well, taking a bite. "Yeah, and that asshole got what he deserved." Steven snapped, his words still understandable even though he had some food in his mouth.
"You weren't even there!" Conrad yelled from the couch, making Olive snicker as she took another bite of food. Belly tiredly walked into the kitchen and Olive pointed at the extra plate beside her. Belly gave Olive a small smile a muttered a "thank you" before Susannah shrieked from the front door.
Everyone jumped at the noise and Susannah quickly ran in holding two cards. "Belly and Olive are going to be debutantes!" Olive straightened up in excitement, a big smile taking over her face as Susannah ran over to the two girls, giving them a big hug.
"It's really not that big of a deal." Belly muttered through a fake smile, but Olive ignored her, hugging Susannah with just as much excitement that she had.
"I'm sorry. Belly? My sister? Like that thing right there?" Steven asked as Susannah and Olive pulled away from their hug.
"Shut up, cretin." Belly snapped and Steven quickly raised his hands in surrender. "I'm just saying. Ollie I get because like... it fits her vibe. But you?" Steven asked, chuckling at the thought.
Susannah rolled her eyes, ignoring Steven as she kept her eyes on the girl. "Okay, this is going to be so much fun. Just you wait. There's the tea, the auction, the ball of course- I've gotta write this down." Susannah rambled before an idea popped into Olive's head. Shopping. She loved going shopping.
"Susannah!" Olive gasped, making the blonde whip around to her. "We need to go shopping." Olive said, giving the woman a big smile. Susannah practically squealed in excitement, running up to Olive to give her another hug.
"Oh! Perfect!" She cheered before looking to Laurel next to Olive, her smile still wide. "And we still need to style you for your book party!"
Laurel cleared her throat, leaning forward so she could see Belly passed Susannah and Olive. "Belly, are you sure you want to do this? It doesn't seem very you."
Just as Belly was about to speak, Conrad spoke up. "It's not."
Susannah scoffed at her sons words, turning around to face him. "Conrad, could you please be a little more supportive?" She asked before turning to Jeremiah and Steven. "Now, which one of you boys will escort Belly and Olive to the ball?"
Susannah looked between the three boys as Conrad sat up on the couch. Before Olive could interject and say she was gonna ask Cameron, Belly spoke up first. "I'm not going with either one of you. I am going to find my own date."
Olive's eyes widened, she leaned towards Belly so only she could hear her. "Does that mean you might ask Cam? Because I was kinda relying on him being my date." Olive whispered and Belly whipped her head to the girl beside her. She didn't even think about how Olive might've been planning to go with Cameron.
Belly winced, leaning closer to the girl too. "Is that okay?" She whispered. Olive rolled her eyes with a smile. She wanted her two friends to be happy. She quickly nodded her head, taking another bite of food. "Completely." Olive said with her mouth full, making the two girls giggle.
"Okay, so Belly has a date. What about Olive?" Susannah asked and Olive quickly swallowed down her food. She looked up from her plate as Conrad quickly raised his hand. "Not me. I went last year."
"Yeah, and I swore off balls." Jeremiah said, taking a huge bite of his egg. Steven and Olive both started to laugh. Jeremiah groaned, trying not to laugh with the two since he still had food in his mouth. "The dances, guys."
"Steven!" Susannah cheered, turning to the boy who was still laughing. Steven's smile immediately fell when the attention went on him. Susannah tilted her head, her enthusiastic smile morphing into a small one. "You'll be Olive's date, right?"
Steven's eyes were wide as he looked back and forth between Susannah and Olive. Part of him was speechless, ready to say yes, but the other part of him was thinking about Shayla. What if she asked him?
Thinking he could figure it out later, Steven smiled, nodding his head as he made sure to keep his eyes on Susannah, a little worried to look at Olive. "Yeah." Steven said. He realized he didn't sound too convincing and continued. "Yeah, of course I'll be her date."
Olive felt about a thousand butterflies in her stomach at Stevens's words. She looked down at her plate when she felt her blush spread around her face and her smile going wide.
"Wikipedia says debutante balls require instruction in morals and social etiquette." Laurel read off her computer. She looked up from the device to give Susannah an "are you kidding me?" look as Steven chuckled.
"Belly could use some etiquette, yeah." He muttered as he grabbed two plastic water bottles from the fridge. He turned around to Olive and threw one to her.
Olive caught the bottle as Susannah gave the boy a fake glare. "Shush." The blonde woman said. Olive could tell that she was having enough of their negativity when she turned around and gave Olive a smile that she knew was begging her to agree with her.
"Come on, girls! It's time to go dress shopping!" Susannah cheered. Olive quickly stuffed the rest of the egg in her mouth and got out of her chair, following Susannah out of the room.
