one.

Olive was ecstatic.

Today, the Conklins and the Fishers were finally coming back to Cousins. Well, the Conklins. The Fishers came into town yesterday, but Olive had spent her day with Cameron.

She decided today would be better anyway. She'd get to see all of them at once. Olive had been texting Belly all day, constantly asking her when they'd arrive.

The girl was in line at the local coffee shop. She figured since Susannah let's her stay at her home every summer, she'd buy everyone drinks. She knew all of their orders.

Olive walked out of the coffee shop with seven drinks. She had two of the coffee carriers and carefully walked towards her army green Jeep.

When she pulled up to the house she'd be staying at for the summer, she noticed Susannah and Laurels car were parked in the driveway. She quickly got out, having no arms to hold her bags since she was holding the coffees. When she got to the closed front door, Olive huffed. Making sure she had a tight grasp on the coffee holders, Olive stuck her foot out and kicked the door to knock.

Laurel was the one to open the door and when she saw Olives hands were full, she quickly grabbed one of the coffee holders to help her. "Oh my God, Ollie." Laurel laughed out, making Susannah run to the front door from the kitchen.

"Olive!" Susannah's voice echoed through the house. Olive started to giggle when she saw the blonde woman run straight towards her. Susannah took the other coffee holder out of Olive's hands and gave the girl a hug. Olive immediately returned it, making sure to be gentle so Susannah didn't drop the drinks.

When they pulled away, Susannah looked down at the girl and sighed. A small smile started to grow onto her face as she tilted her head. "You look beautiful, sweetheart." Susannah hummed.

Olive's face flushed. She was not good at receiving compliments. She muttered a small thank you to Susannah that the woman pouted at. Susannah knew Olive didn't take compliments the greatest, but she always gave them to the girl incase she ever needed to hear it and to get her more comfortable.

"The kids are out by the pool. They haven't started moving in yet so don't feel like you're falling behind or anything." Susannah said, kissing Olive's head and slightly pushing towards the door to the backyard with her free hand.

As Olive walked, she heard a splash in the water and two boys laugh. She could see Steven and Jeremiah from the glass door, but they hadn't noticed her yet. She slid opened the doors and immediately saw Belly and Conrad in the pool.

Olive groaned, making the four teens heads turn to her. "I missed the belly flop?" Olive asked.

"Olive!" Belly and Conrad cheered from the pool. Olive turned to them to say hi, but was interrupted by Jeremiah running up to her, lifting her in the air.

"Ollie!" Jeremiah yelled. Olive shrieked when she felt her feet off the ground, wrapping her arms tightly around Jeremiah so he didn't drop her.

"Move. Move! My turn!" Steven yelled, pushing Jeremiah. When Jeremiah put Olive down, Steven immediately wrapped his arms around her, picking her up just like Jeremiah had.

"How have you been?" Steven asked as he put Olive back down. He kept his hands on Olives waist. Olive laughed, shaking her head as she looked up at the boy. "I talked to you live two hours ago." Olive laughed out and Steven scoffed.

"Not the same. You're here. In person!" He yelled, looking her up and down at his last sentence. Olive felt her cheeks start to heat up. Trying to shake off the feeling of her blush, Olive turned to Jeremiah behind Steven.

"I brought every drinks." Olive said and the two boys perked up, Stevens's hands raising from Olive's waist to her shoulders. They got in either side of her, both of them wrapping an arm around her shoulders, letting her lead them to the drinks she had got them.

After everyone moved in, they started dinner. Olive sat next to Belly. She was partially in front of Jeremiah who was watching a video with Steven on Stevens phone.

Laurel groaned at the boys watching the screen. Olive understood, it was the first night everyone was here and they weren't acknowledging anyone at the table.

"Steven, I swear to God, if you look at that phone one more time, I'm putting it in the screen basket." Laurel snapped. Olive chuckled, she had definitely spent a couple dinners with her phone in the screen basket and Steven always made fun of her. She couldn't wait for this payback.

"It's just, we want to see your beautiful faces. Can dinner be a screen-free zone? You know, like the olden days." Susannah asked and Jeremiah looked up at his mom, giving her a sweet smile and turning away from the phone. Olive gave Jeremiah a smile before both of them turned to Steven who was still on his phone.

"Steven. Dude, are you kidding me?" Jeremiah asked. Before Steven could look up and defend himself, Jeremiah grabbed Stevens phone and threw it in the screens basket that sat behind Olive. When it made it in the basket, Olive and Jeremiah threw their fists in the air in victory.

Steven rolled his eyes at the two of them, his eyes flickering to Olive more than Jeremiah. He watched as she cheered for Jeremiah. He watched her smile before he shook his head and turned to Jeremiah. "Okay, okay, okay, we get it, you've been working out." Steven groaned, trying to stop Jeremiah's bragging and Olives cheering. Belly rolled her eyes at her brother.

"Oh, you're just jealous because Jere has a better body than you." Belly scoffed and almost instantly Steven raised his brows.

"Uh, no, actually, it's all about the lean look now. Otherwise, you can't wear tailored suits." Steven explained, straightening out the button up he was wearing before turning to Olive who was pushing her food around with her fork. "Right, Ollie?" Steven asked.

Olive's head shot up as she dropped her fork. "What?" She asked, her eyes darting between Jeremiah and Steven across the table from her. Did Steven know Olive found him attractive?

Steven rolled his eyes, figuring Olive had dozed off from the conversation and turned to Conrad. "When are you leaving for training camp, man?" All three of the Fishers faces fell at Stevens's question. Jeremiah cleared his throat, making the Conklins and Olive turn to him. "Uh, he quit football."

Olive slowly turned to Conrad, her brows furrowed. "Wh... Wait, really?" She asked quietly. She knew how much he loved football and she remembered helping him and training with him last summer. Conrad turned to Olive and nodded his head.

"Are you kidding me, man? I'd-I'd kill to play college ball." Steven laughed out almost in shock. Susannah turned to Steven, tilting her head with a small smile. "He can always change his mind." Susannah hummed. Conrad scoffed, picking at his food.

"I'm not gonna change my mind. I was just gonna sit on the bench all season anyways." Conrad grumbled and Olive gave a sympathetic smile to the boy. She tilted her head as she watched him.

"Well, if you're not playing football anymore, what are you gonna do all summer?" She asked, she made sure to try and keep her voice on the optimistic side, not wanting him to think she was judging at all.

Steven started to laugh as he hit Jeremiah's chest. "Oh, dude, you can work at the club. Yeah, with me and Jere." Steven said and almost immediately Jeremiah started to smile with him, both of them trying to encourage Conrad who just scoffed at them.

"I'm not gonna work at the club. I'd rather... join a band with Ollie." Conrad snapped implying he wouldn't want to join a band with her. Olive dropped her fork and raised her hands in defense.

"Okay, woah. Why are you making that sound like a bad thing?" Olive asked, looking around the table. Olive played the guitar and the drums and she was really good so she didn't know why Conrad would make it seem like that was a horrible idea.

"Wait, you guys are working this summer?" Belly asked, looking back and forth between the two boys. Olive turned to face the boys as well, both of them having proud grins across their faces.

"Yeah, I'm lifeguarding, and Steven's working at the snack shop." Jeremiah explained. Olive nodded, she worked as a lifeguard last year. It was fun, but she definitely wouldn't do it again. The kids never listened and she hated the eyes on her while she was in the bathing suit.

"Oh, Belly, Olive, I almost forgot. I have a surprise for you two." Susannah said happily. She quickly got out of her seat as the two girls perked up. The table watched as Susannah walked towards her purse and pulled out two envelopes. Laurel started to chuckle as Susannah handed the two girls the envelopes.

"So, this is why you had to stop by the country club." Laurel said as the girl opened their envelopes. Steven and Jeremiah both tried to lean over the table to see what the girls had gotten.

"Wh-what is that?" Steven asked as Olive read her invitation to the debutant ball.

"I wrangled the girls invitations to be debutantes." Susannah said happily, wiggling her shoulders. Olive had watched the debutante ball every year. She never thought of signing herself up, but now that she thought about it, this would be her last chance to. By the time next summer rolls around, Olive would be graduated from high school and too old to sign up.

"Is that the thing where the girls wear white dresses and curtsy?" Belly asked, looking up from her invitation to Susannah. "Yes." Olive spoke up, not looking up from her own, her eyes still scanning over the paper.

"It's when a girl comes of age and is presented to society. I know it sounds silly, but I swear it's fun. Girls come from all over New England to Cousins just to be a part of it. You'll make so many new friends." Susannah explained as she got out of her seat and walked to the kitchen with her empty glass of water. Laurel laughed at Susannah's words.

"I cannot believe you are still holding on to this archaic dream." Laurel called out after Susannah and the women quickly came back with more water in her cup, shaking her head as she sat back down. "No, it used to be about finding a husband, but now it's about networking. They teach you leadership skills, like how to market yourself, and it benefits charity. It's, um, like a bat mitzvah."

Olive giggled at Susannah's words, shaking her head. "It is not like a bat mitzvah."

Laurel nodded in agreement with Olive, shaking her head at Susannah in amusement. "There is nothing religious about a debutante ball."

"The whole deb scene is bullshit. It's for sheep." Conrad grumbled. Olive chuckled, she remembered Conrad being a part of the debutante ball as Nicole's date the year prior. The Conklins had left the summer house early to tour colleges for Steven so when Susannah and Jeremiah went to watch Conrad, Olive went as well.

Susannah rolled her eyes at her sons words. "No, it's not. It's when a girl has a coming out, it's a formal recognition she's reached maturity." She explained. Steven practically spat out his water at Susannah's words.

"Oh, sorry. I'm sorry. Mature? Belly and Olive?" Steven asked. Olive turned to Steven with a small, shocked glare. She tilted her head as Susannah nodded her head

Steven started to laugh. He readjusted himself in his seat, looking at the two "immature" girls in front of him as he pointed at Belly. "A couple months ago you had a cat funeral. You made us all wear black." He said and both girls faces hardened. He turned to Olive, pointing at her now. "And you demanded we have you there in facetime so you didn't miss it and you never even met Mochi!"

"Shut up, Steven. I saw you crying in your room." Belly snapped and Stevens mouth shut almost instantly. Jeremiah's jaw fell, looking back and forth between Belly and Steven. "Wait, Mochi died? Dang. I'm sorry, Bells."

Belly gave Jeremiah a small nod as a thank you. Susannah turned to Belly, her eyebrows raised and a smile slowly starting to grow on her face. "Belly. Don't you want to get all dressed up?" Susannah asked. Belly looked up from her food and turned to her just as Laurel did. Before Belly could respond herself, Laurel spoke for her.

"It's just not Belly's kind of thing. She's our feral little alley cat." Laurel said, rubbing Belly's shoulder as Steven and Jeremiah started to laugh. Olive tried to hold back her on own laugh at the woman's comment by covering her mouth with her napkin as if she was wiping her mouth.

"Ollie?" Susannah asked. Olive removed the napkin from her mouth and turned to the woman. Without a thought, Olive nodded. "I'll do it." She said and Susannah's smile immediately grew.

"Really?" Susannah asked excitedly as Steven raised his brows at the girl. "Really?"

Olive smiled, nodding her head as she looked between Steven and Susannah. She was practically glowing in excitement. It wasn't something she'd normally do, but the kid Olive inside of her was ecstatic.

Susannah's smile grew just as wide as Olive's had as she turned to Belly. Belly looked up at the feeling of eyes in her and sighed. "I'll think about it."

Susannah kept her smile up, glad at least one girl had already s aid yes as she took a look to Laurel with a smirk. "She'll think about it."

After dinner, Olive ran upstairs to her room to start getting ready for the bonfire party on the beach. Her and Cameron had been excited about this party since before school had even ended. They had it all planned out, Cameron was going to take her to the party and after finding out the boys were going too, she was gonna go home with them afterwards.

She was wearing the same she had been in all day, but she touched up her makeup and brushed her hair again. She felt her phone buzz in her pocket and figuring it was Cameron, she tried to finish up faster.

As she was heading down the stairs, a loud horn started honking from the driveway. "Jeez! I'm hurrying." Olive groaned, as Steven walked up the stairs, laughing at the girl.

"See you at the bonfire?" Steven asked, watching Olive from the middle of the stairs as she walked towards the front door. Olive giggled? nodding her head. "See you at the bonfire, Stevie."

When the front door closed and Olive was outside, he heard her faintly scream. "Stop fucking honking! I'm here!"

Steven chuckled at the girl, shaking his head. He started to continue up the stairs, but stopped to look back to the door Olive had just walked out of.
