Maya and Riley got off the subway and we're heading to The Marriage Bureau. Where, Riley and Maya will elope and finally be married. As, they headed to their destination they couldn't help but not smile. For, they knew this was the right thing to do.
"I can't believe that in a little bit. Where about to be married. And I'll now be the first Mrs. Matthews-Hart!" Riley said happily. Maya chuckled.
"Are sure you just don't want me to change my last name to Matthews? I mean I wouldn't mind. Besides, I always wanted to marry a Matthews. And, that one Matthews was never Josh. It was you since the very beginning." Maya said as she looked at Riley with a smile. Riley, couldn't help but blush as Maya told her that.
"As, much as I would love for you to have my last name and become Mrs. Matthews. I wanna be Mrs. Riley Matthews-Hart." Riley replied. Maya nodded and kissed Riley on the cheek and on the lips. Sharing a small kiss but to them it felt long.
Maya and Riley finally arrived to The Marriage Bureau. Riley knocked on the door and it was opened by the pastor who had a friendly smile along with a woman was standing behind him.
"Come on in, young ladies. Come on in." The pastor said as Maya and Riley walked into the room. "This is my wife, Stacy. Now, let's get this wedding started. But, first I'll need you to give your ID to my wife, Stacy.
Maya and Riley nodded and gave Stacy their ID and she gladly took them she went to stand beside her husband and was about to cheek the ID.
"Honey, do you mind getting the book and a bouquet for Riley." The Pastor asked and Stacy nodded and gave him the book and went to give a bouquet of flowers to Riley.
"Everything is now ready. I can now begin the ceremony." The pastor said resulting in Maya and Riley to smile. Riley walked the aisle where Maya stood and watched Riley and couldn't help but smile. As, Riley reached the front and came face to face with Maya.
You're beautiful Riley. I'm glad we're getting married." Maya said happily and Riley nodded smiling. The pastor smiled and began the ceremony.
"Do you Maya Hart, take Riley Matthews to be your wife? To honor and cherish her? For, richer and poor and sickness and health till death do you apart?" The pastor asked. Maya looked at Riley and smiled and faced the pastor. "I always have and always will. I do." Maya said as she looked at Riley with a smile. The pastor nodded and faced Riley.
"And do you Riley Matthews. Take Maya Hart to be your wife. To honor and cherish her? For, richer and poor and sickness and health till death do you apart?" The pastor asked. Maya, smiled waiting for Riley to say I do. But, Riley just stayed silent. Everyone looked at Riley waiting for her answer.
"I... I..." Riley just stopped mid sentence. Maya leaned in towards Riley, "I do." Maya whispers to Riley.
"I..." Riley once again stopped mid sentence. "We got the I. We just need the do part. Then, will finally be married." Maya whispered to Riley.
"I... this is the strangest thing." Riley said being shocked that she couldn't say I do. Maya smiled, "Can you excuse us for a second." Maya said as she pulled Riley aside.
"Riley, listen. You can do this. I did it. I was a real women about it. Now, don't let me up here with my wedding dress." Maya said. Riley nodded.
"Let me try this again." Riley said as they both walked back to the front, and faced the pastor and Stacy.
"Now, let's try this again. Shall we." The pastor said. Maya and Riley nodded.
"I..." Riley, once again didn't finish her sentence. Maya, the pastor, and Stacy leaned in, "Do." The three said together.
"I can't. I just can't." Riley said sadly. Maya looked shocked, "Well you just hate to hear that!" Maya said loudly. Riley, faced Maya, "I'm sorry Maya." Riley said sadly as she handed the bouquet of flowers to Stacy and walked out the door. Maya, stared sadly seeing Riley walk away.
As, Maya was heading out the door. Stacy, remembered their ID and was going to hand it back to Maya. When, she noticed how old the girls where.
"Maya! Wait. You're forgetting your ID." Stacy said as she handed Maya back their ID. "Thank you, Stacy. Sorry, we wasted your time." Maya said sadly as Maya was about to head out she was stopped again, by Stacy.
"Wait, Maya. Even, if Riley said yes. The two of you wouldn't be officially married." Stacy said. Hearing, what Stacy just told her. Shocked, Maya for she didn't know this.
"What, do you mean. That Riley and I wouldn't be officially married." Maya asked as she was confused.
"Individuals under 14 cannot get a marriage license. Applicants who are 14 or 15 years old must show written consent by both parents and a judge. This judge can be from a family court in the applicant's county of residence. A judge from the New York Supreme Court may also provide the necessary assent. Applicants who are 16 or 17 must show written consent from both parents" Stacy said as explained. Maya, was shocked for she didn't know any of this.
"Thank you, Stacy, for telling me this. I appreciate it a lot. Now, when Riley is ready to get married. Then, will be prepared." Maya smiled.
Maya and Riley were on the subway as they were heading back to Riley's apartment. The two haven't talked since Maya told Riley what Stacy told her.
"Boy, I am so sorry my family missed that." Maya said sarcastically. "I'm really sorry, Maya." Riley replied. "Wow!" Maya basically shouted. Riley, turned and faced Maya, "I don't know what to say." Riley said. Maya, turned and faced Riley, "Do! You know, do? It the first half of your favorite word--Don't." Maya said angrily. "I don't like your tone." Riley said with a frown.
"You don't like-- we ride the subway so we can get married and she don't like my tone. That is really rich." Maya said bitterly. "I want my family to be at my wedding. Especially, my mom. Even, though she doesn't agree I still want her to see me get married with the love of my life. I want your family to be there. Especially, our friends. Maya, I want to wear a wedding dress. A white, lacy wedding dress." Riley said trying to calm down Maya. "Of course white. The way we're going, bright white. Snow White. Whiter than the white-hot light of a thousand burning suns!" Maya replied. "How long are you gonna be mad at me?" Riley asked curiously. "10 minutes." Maya answered.
"Can, you not be mad at me, Maya" Riley pleaded. "You said you wanted to run away and get married. We ran out together, and you know what we did? Nothing. Our big dramatic moment, and you know what we did? Nothin'." Maya said with anger. "I don't care about a big dramatic moment, Maya! It's not right to run off together because we think we have something to prove." Riley fired back angrily. Maya faced Riley, "You were right. You did the right thing. Our marriage should be a celebration, not a secret." Maya admits. "Thank you." Riley says as she's glad everything okay between them. "You owe me the rest of your life, you know." Maya says smiling. "It's yours." Riley smiles back. The two share a passionate kiss.
