IV. Avatar Kyoshi

Aang and Aya were inside the statue of Avatar Kyoshi trying to figure out any information about Avatar Kyoshi and the Avatar state.

Aya was reading about Kyoshi's life as a child. Kyoshi was an orphan and adopted to a rich family.

"Nothing. Nothing about the Avatar state or any of her powers," Aang interrupted Aya's reading and she looked over at the Avatar. "Nothing that can help me train. So how am I supposed to figure out how to save the world? How do I stop the Fire Nation from hurting more people?"

Aya got up as Aang was walking towards her and showed him the book she was reading, "did you know she was an orphan? Lived on the streets until she was hired as a house girl for the richest family on the island. She was quiet and kind. No one had a clue she'd become the Avatar."

Aya liked the fact Kyoshi was shy and kind and grew up to become such a legend. Really shows you to expect the unexpected. It's like with Aya, they will underestimate the shy and quiet until they attack with amazing abilities.

"So, how did she go from this..." Aang took the book and pointed at the portrait of Kyoshi's bending all the elements with her fans. "To that."

"Only justice will bring peace," Aya read the words that were on the portrait.

"I never wanted to fight, and I'm afraid of hurting someone," Aang began and stared at the gear that Kyoshi's wore. "Back home, the other kids had to say I was lucky, because I never really had to train. But I did have to train. Not to develop my powers, but to keep them under control. No one said anything, but I could tell they were scared of me. Just like how you and Sokka were when I went into the Avatar State."

"I wasn't scared," Aya admitted and went up to him. "If anything, I was concerned for your safety."

"It's okay, Aya." Aang smiled at the girl, who was holding the same book in her hands. She continued to read it as Aang spoke. "But what if nothing in here can help me? What if I never learn how to control my powers? How many people will I hurt?"

"But imagine what'll happen if you don't even try," Aya reasoned before she flipped a page in the book and smiled at what she read. "Aang, you're not alone!" She took his shoulder and showed him the book. "According to this, all the previous Avatars are incarnations of your past lives. You are literally not alone. The other Avatars are inside you. You want someone to teach you, you just need to figure out how to connect to them. The answers aren't inside here. They're inside you."

——

Aang and Aya went outside and Aang sat in the middle, right below Avatar Kyoshi. He was meditating and attempting to connect with Kyoshi, hoping she would help him with his powers.

Aya stood behind him watching and also protecting him from any danger that could possibly come. If Aang does contact Kyoshi, she doesn't know if she can break the connection if any danger arrives.

Aya sat down carefully, tilting her head with curiosity as she observed Aang as he meditated. Nothing was happening, but she could sense a presence and it alarmed her. It didn't take long for the eyes on the Kyoshi statue shot two beams of light around Aang, making Aya gasp and shoot to her feet.

She watched in amazement as Aang's tattoos began to glow just like the beam of light in the eyes of the statue.

"Aang?" Aya asked as she cautiously approached him, kneeling to his level. Her eyes shifted from him and Kyoshi, frowning in confusion. "Aang?"

Aang wasn't responding. Aya connected the dots, realizing he had contacted Kyoshi.

Aya stood up, walking over to the edge of the mountain, and looking out over the ocean. Her eyes scanned everywhere, pulling out her daggers, taking a deep inhale, and letting out her breath slowly.

"He is most vulnerable right now, I will protect Aang," Aya whispered to herself.

"Aya!"

Aya swiftly put her daggers up, facing the direction of the voice she heard. It was Katara.

"Katara." She smiled with relief, lowering her daggers.

"Is Aang okay?" She asked, noticing Aang mediating with his tattoos glowing.

"Yes. He is contacting Kyoshi." Aya told her. Katara didn't get a chance to respond, because a bell started to ring and this alarmed the sisters.

"What is that?" Katara asked as the sister ran closer to the edge and down below at the shore of the beach. It was Zhao's ship.

Aya gasped softly. "Fire Nation."

The sisters rushed over to Aang, immediately shaking him.

"Aang. You need to come back!" Aya exclaimed worriedly.

"Aang!" Katara yelled. Aang wasn't responding, he was too deep in the mediation. "Where are you?"

"What do we do?" Aya asked her sister. "If Zhao and Zuko find us, we can't take them."

"Um..." Katara stammered unsure, looking over the edge at the forect below. Aya stood behind her, seeing Zuko and his men walking around. Katara placed her arm in front of Aya when Zuko spotted the sisters.

"No." Aya gasped, moving back fearfully. Zuko started sprinting up the mountain and the sisters rushed back over to Aang, attempting to wake him up.

"Aang, please," Aya begged, taking his hand in hers.

"Stay here, I will deal with Zuko," Katara told her sister, who gave her a concerned look.

"Katara-"

"Stay here." Katara interrupted and rushed off, leaving Aya with Aang.

Aya let out a nervous breath as she watched Katara leave. Aya looked up at Aang, squeezing his hand.

"You're our only hope, Aang." She pleaded. "Please."

Aya's head shot up when she heard fighting in the distance. She stood up in alarm, looking toward the forest, and saw Zuko and Katara.

"Katara." Aya got her daggers in her hands and sprinted over to them. It didn't take long for Aya to find them and she saw Katara on the ground, defenseless, and Zuko standing there, furious.

Before Zuko could fire another blast, Aya threw her dagger at him slicing his arm and he grunted, stumbling back.

"Leave my sister alone," Aya seethered angrily. Zuko glared at her, charging his fire in his fist.

"Your little weapons won't do you any good." Zuko sneered at her. He blasted fire at her, but she dodged the fire nd rolled out the way. She threw her second dagger, slicing his other arm.

Zuko yelled in pain, looking at his two cuts on his arms. Both bloody.

"That's it, peasant!" He angrily yelled and formed two giant balls of fire in his hands. Aya's eyes grew in fear, but suddenly a huge gust of wind knocked Aya down next to Katara. Zuko stumbled back with his fire extinguishing from the powerful wind.

The three looked up at what made the powerful gust of wind. It was Avatar Kyoshi.

"Woah." Aya gasped in astonishment.

"Impossible." Zuko gasped. Kyoshi raised her hand, and Zuko sent a blast of fire, but it was deflected by Kyoshi's powerful earthbending. Zuko yelled as he was flown back and tumbled to the ground.

Kyoshi flew off after that and Aya and Katara took this opportunity to leave while Zuko was down. Aya made sure to grab her daggers before she left. Aya smiled to herself, proud of what she did to Zuko.

Zuko watched as Aya ran off, hitting the ground angrily. He looked at both his arms, seeing the blood form on his uniform and he groaned in frustration.

——

Katara and Aya made it back to the village, making sure to stay hidden. Kyoshi had just landed in the village and formed a tornado of all four elements around her without hesitation. She started to pull in Fire Nation guards into the tornado that continued to grow and grow around her, before she blasted the tornado out and all the guards got blasted away. Each guard landed all around the village, falling to the ground defenseless.

Zhao was in disbelief as he watched. "Pull back. BACK TO THE SHIP!"

Kyoshi formed a giant air tornado as the guards ran away yelling. The tornado got more powerful each second and Kyoshi looked up at the sky and her body transformed into Aang's seconds later. Aya's body stopped glowing and the air tornado vanished as he collapsed to the ground.

"Aang!" Aya gasped, rushing over to him, and kneeling to his level. Katara followed with Yukari, Sokka, and Suki just behind her. Aya helped Aang sit up and he looked at her for a second, flashing her a reassuring grin.

"I'm okay."

Aya helped Aang to his feet and the people of the village surrounded him.

"This is all my fault." Aang said. His eyes scanned the destroyed villages from all the fire. "I brought this here."

"Which is why you have to go," Suki told him. "Now."

"We can't just leave you." Sokka objected.

"They want the Avatar, not us." Suki reasoned.

"There's nothing here that we've lost that can't be replaced," Yukari informed Aang. "You've given us something far more valuable in return. A reason to believe again, in our village, in ourselves..." Yukari smiled at her daughter and then back at Aang. "And in the Avatar."

Yukari bowed at Aang, Suki followed in pursuit along with all the villages. Aya smiled at Aang as he bowed back to them.

"Nice job, Avatar." Katara nudged Aang as the villagers got closer and Aya smiled brightly. Sokka pulled Suki away during this.

"I knew you could do it," Aya muttered to Aya, blushing lightly. Aang gave her a bashful grin in return.

"Thanks, Aya." He remarked and the two looked away, blushing.

——

Appa's tail flopped in the air as he flew into the sky. The villagers waved as Aang, Aya, Sokka, and Katara flew out the the village.

Sokka smiled at the fan in his hands he got from Suki.

Aya smirked. "Aw, you got a gift from Suki."

Sokka rolled his eyes at her.

"So, this means you don't wanna go home anymore?" Katara asked her brother.

Soka gave her a look. "And let you guys have all the fun?" Katara grinned and Sokka looked Aang. "Besides, someone's gotta help the kid. This could get tough for him. Zuko clearly isn't going to give up, and he's dangerous." Sokka leaned forward and patted Aang's arm, getting his attention. "Nifty trick you pulled back there, channeling scary lady." Aang turned around. "This mean we'll see more of her?"

"Kyoshi said I can only call upon one of the past Avatars when I'm in their shrines," Aang explained.

"What else did she tell you?" Katara asked.

"We need to get to the Northern Water Tribe because something terrible is going to happen there," Aang informed and his eyes shifted down. "Something only I can stop."

"All right, North it is, then." Sokka grinned, nudging Aang. "We just gotta get there before the Firebenders catch up to us."

"The waterbending masters there are the best in the world. They can train you." Katara told Aang.

"Don't worry. You won't do this alone," Aya assured Aang, patting his knee.

"You have me, Aya, Katara, and a flying ball of fur." Sokka added and Aya giggled as Momo landed on his head. "What more do you need?"

"Momo!" Aya giggled as Sokka's face turned into an annoyed expression. Katara and Aang laughed with Aya.

"Really?" Sokka asked with annoyance. "Feel like I walked into that one."

"Can't forget Momo," Aya smiled softly.

Up Next: Omashu

So sorry about the delay of updating. Been busy with my other books and sort of lost interest with this one, but got it back quickly. As I mentioned before, each episode will be split into 2 or 3 chapters depending on the length. More content the better, right?

Thanks for being patient.
