It was the time when most of the high school students went shopping for the annual dance , with a partner. Crowding the stores, spending the money on the pieces of cloths they might never touch again. Spending hours and hours on their appearance. All dressed up , wearing glimmery dresses and showing each other what they are or they want to turn into. Trying to make every head turn their way.

But it was different for Eden's Academy of Excellence. Students don't spend their time on getting dressed up even after the final exams. One thing they surely enjoy doing is spread rumors about who might be a selected student once the middle schoolers entre high school. Telling each other what it might be being in a 3 room apartment all to yourself. It's forbidden for students to enter the selective students apartment building , exclusively build for the extraordinary blooming talents of the school to spend their time. Perfectly designed study area along with a mini cafeteria or shop whatever it might look like to one's eyes, is one of the things that catches eyes. But the most important thing is , their's no warden to keep an eye on you and no separate hostel buildings according to gender.

Who might be the next heir of Eden's legacy is one thing but the one that excites most of them and the one that vanished sleep from most of the eyes is the title of " Student of the year". Classic , as the principle describes it , is awarded to the students with most academic points and the student who was the best in the extra curricular activities.

A word has been going around that apparently the students who deserved it were provided with a cape before hand to wear at the ceremony. The potential heirs of what they call the golden opportunity to be on top of the world. The whole world of some students revolve around this , especially the selected students. They roam around with a warm smile around the school with a slow burning rage of fire.

The only thing that matters to them is being one of those 4 students to get the cape.

The students made their way to the auditorium where the results were going to announce , in the presence of their parents. Whispers have been roaming around for the potential people to get the cape. All the 7 selected students were seated separately back stage and can only meet the principle once before coming on the stage. Till that tie no one gets to know who is one f those 4 students.

Students started to settle at their places , not soon after a screeching sound came from the microphone flowed by principle's voice. Introducing the chief guests. Most of the students would have skipped through the introduction and to the point where the selected students were suppose to carry the legacies of Eden's Academy.

That part crawled through the time to the present , as the chief guards were guided to their places by Principle and the students were asked to stand and show their respect to the 4 legacies of the Eden's academy of excellence.

4 Legacies , 4 students and 4 capes.

A soft music started to play and fill the silence of auditorium with its rhythm followed by the choirs. All the students stood up on their places head bowed down as the drumbeat began.

The students came one by one carrying one of the four things wearing dark blur capes with golden lining , along with the logo of Eden's academy o excellence.

A brown torch was carried by Christina from senior high representing the ever burning desire of winning and achieving what you want first enlightened on the day of Eden's opening by no other than the grandfather of principle Vincent.

Followed by a small box of glass and wood shining bright with the star badge awarded to the first ever selected student of the academy carried by Kai.

Next came 2 students carrying a big tray filled with honor badges and trophies , carried by Grace and Tyler , head school boy also coming from the senior high.

The four of them stood in a queue as the tray was kept in the centre of the stage on a table along with the wooden box containing the golden star badge.

Christina walked past them towards the front followed by the other three students. As they made their way to the front of the stage climbing down and reaching for the statue of Harold Vincent the founder of Eden's academy. They stood in front of Harold Vincent's Statue holding the torch together and bowing in front of him.

Principle Vincent's voice filled the auditorium as she said , " In the honor of Mr. Harold Vincent "

The four selected students took a step in front and raised the torch high , all of them said together , " For Peace and Harmony ". All the other students repeated after them as they raised the torch higher and kept it in a stand build in front of the statue.

The tunes changed and all the four students marched back to the stage, with their capes wrapped around their shoulders. The grand ceremony started with the introduction of chief guests, and a opening song by the choir followed by a student's remark. Before the results, Principle Vincent announced for the grand awarding shield to be bought. The drum beats came to rise once again as the drapes opened and the other 3 selected students came in view holding the golden shining shield with 'Student of the Year' written in bold matt black letters.

As the steady drumbeat reverberated through the air, accompanied by harmonious choirs, the trio advanced toward the front of the room with solemn purpose. They carefully placed the shield upon the intricately adorned round center table, designated for this very moment.

Principle Vincent said, "For the moment everyone waited for, I shall invited Dr. Heather Wood to announce the précised award of student of the year. And to join him, I invite Mrs. Flora Busby."

The auditorium was filled with applauding sounds as the two of them walked to the podium. They addressed the crowd and opened the envelop.

Mrs. Flora began, "For the auspicious award of Student of the year, the deserving student made their to here with constant progress, hard work and dedication."

Dr. Wood said next, " Student of the year for this, academic session goes to.." . He went silent for sometime feeling the piercing gazing on him , " Grace Wargrave"

The room went completely silent for a while , before the loud sound of applauds and cheering broke in. Lucas turned his head towards Grace , as she approached the front of the stage . A small smile played on his lips as he admired her from a distance sitting in the second front corner row of the auditorium.

Kai caught a glimpse of Olivia walking to the exit door; he quickened his pace to catch up with her. Olivia came to a stop when Kai called her, she turned to see him approaching her.

"Hey " She said in a bright tone, " Well sorry for that day. Grace hadn't picked up my calls since, I was wondering if.."

" Have you seen her ?" Kai asked cutting her off.

" I haven't met her since..."

" Have you seen her today "

" I think she went from the south exit, but what's the ..." Kai didn't wait for her to finish , he turned and sprinted towards the other end of the auditorium.

It was the last day of this session before the long 2 months summer holidays. He won't get a chance to meet her for 2 months. But their's so little time left for him to make it right.

He made his way out into the corridor, he looked into his sides and caught a glimpse of a royal blue fabric on his right , with golden lining in the corner.

" Grace " He called and ran towards it. Following her as she turned and made her way to the outer corridor of south wing.

" Grace " He called once again , but this time he wasn't late. He held her wrist as she was walking.

" Wait " He said.

" Let me go " Grace said , struggling to let herself free from his grip.

" Please. Grace talk to me "

" What's their to talk about ?" She turned to face him completely, her hand still in his , kept in a place.

" What's happening. Don't you think we need to sort things out"

" What's left to be sorted ?"

" Us. You and me. Our friendship. "

" There's nothing to talk about that"

" There is. Tell me what's wrong. Why are you behaving like this. Not picking my calls , no replies to the messages , nothing. You are distancing yourself , from me and from everyone. You might think this is nothing but you need to sort things out. Especially You and Lucas"

" Lucas and me ?" A hollow laugh escaped her lips as she looked at him with her emotionless eyes. " There's nothing between us "

" There is"

" Ohh really " She laughed again , more hollow than last time , completely empty " Care to elaborate "

" You two are made for each other Grace. It's not what it looks like. I know you think he played a trick or something. I also know that you tried to contact him afterwards even after I told you he was not coming , because you had hope. "

" Because of living with Humans"

" But you had hope when Leo disappeared didn't you"

" Don't bring him here"

" Why not ?" Kai said raising his voice " You treat people like trash , Grace. And you still expect them to be good to you , but when someone actually be good to you and thinks for your well being you distance yourself from them. Don't you ? Just like you did to Olivia. You knew I will be their , right? You used your mind reading skill. That's why you ghosted her." He took a sharp breath before turning back to face Grace looking at her ,his voice softening, " Look at yourself, Grace. You might think it's good for you to maintain a limit but deep down you know that it's crushing your soul. Leave everyone , tell me what I did wrong. Hmm? Tell me what I can do to make it right"

" You can't do anything. There's no problem at all. But when..." Grace looked away for a moment before continuing , " It's that when ever I look at you it reminds me of that night , when I spent hours getting ready thinking that for a moment or two I'll live a normal life as well. But it turned out to be exact opposite of what I thought. It was you who showed up and ..."

" I am sorry'

" Don't be. It's not your fault. "

" It is. Grace , it's my fault. "

Kai dropped his hand to his side releasing Grace free from his grip. "Actually I stopped Lucas from showing up. I asked him for some time"

Grace's face folded into visible lines of confusion as Kai continued.

"I had a soft corner for you. But seeing you with Lucas or even imagining you with him was weird for me, surreal. I wanted to have a fair chance of having you just to myself. I asked him for 3 months. I wanted to try my best to make you like me as more than friend. But seeing you break apart made my heart coil. I wanted to do a lot for you. To make you feel special. Loved. But I soon realized that it was best for you to be with Lucas. I wanted to make it up for you, but a part of me still refused. I kept it inside me for 3 months, but soon made my mind. I wanted to tell you the truth but you didn't show up last week. It'll be a 2 month summer vacation before the new session, and I can't live with the guilt anymore , Grace please. "

" Do you think I am a toy or something ?" She stared at him with an expression that was unknown to Kai , Rage?

Grace raised her hand, her eyes slowly turning bright red. Blood red. Kai felt the pressure soon as his back hit the wall with a force. Grace was using her telekinesis, without control. The worst thing that could happen.

Kai gasped at the impact and tried to speak " Gr-Grace please , t-try to understand "

" What do you want me understand" Grace shouted back.

"T-think about L-Leo. What'll h-he think when he w-will know what y-you have turned into" Kai gasped as the force around his neck tightened.

Grace raised her hand and shoved him to a side. His side collapsed into the wall with a loud thud, he groaned at the impact, while holding his arm for support. Grace turned back to leave without looking back.

Kai reached for her one last time, verbally. " Cut all of us off. Don't talk to us ever, if you want to. But keep Olivia by your side. She only have you and you have none. At least , keep a friend to yourself."

Grace didn't stop to listen barging towards the south wing exist.

" Keep her by your side, Grace. You'll need her, It'll kill you , Grace!..." Kai called for her one last time before she disappeared into the bright sunlight. He completed his sentence still looking at the exit " The solitude, It's killing you , Grace."

Disappeared.

Gone.

From here and probably from Kai's life forever.
