Chapter 7

In the previous chapter:
"Hello, you've reached the phone of Logan Huntzberger. Please leave a message"

"Uh, hi, Logan" I respond.
Silence. What a great way to start!
"This is Rory" I reply, wondering if he thought I was a solicitor or something"
"Yeah, I know" Oooookay?
"Uh, so, how are you?" I asked him.
"Good, Rory." He says, emphasizing "good".
Silence, yet again. What's with all the silence?!?! I know I have to dive in, because this conversation is obviously going nowhere.
"So, uh, Logan-" He cuts me off
"What, Rory? Do you want back in?"
"No, I just wanted to... to tell you something" I say, searching for words, with a tear forming in my eye.
"What? What do you have to say to me?"
"I'm pregnant, Logan"
"What does this have to do with me?" he asks, to my dismay.
"Logan..." I trail off.
"I'm engaged, Rory" he reminds me. I obviously that!
I nod, but of course he doesn't know that. I hear Logan sigh.
"What do you want me to do about that?" he inquires, in a much softer, calmer tone.
"What you do is ultimately your choice, I can't make you do anything.
"That's kinda obvious". Does he want, like, examples?
"Well, you could support the baby. Help financially. Visit. Just... don't be in and out, unpredictable" I say, thinking of my father. "Stay in, or stay out".
"Ok, lemme think about it, I'm supposed to be working right now... I'll call you back tonight?" he proposes.
"Yeah. Sure" I reply, not even positive that he's gonna call back. I hang up, and head out of my room. I go towards the living room, to refill in Pop-Tarts. It occurs to me when I'm opening the cabinet that maybe a pregnant woman shouldn't be eating Pop-Tarts, and should be getting some protein instead of plain sugar. It's now 1:00 in the afternoon, and I decide to look in the fridge.
As I should've predicted, the only thing in there was takeout leftovers. Once I see the sparse fridge, I realize I have three options, the last one being a last resort: 1- Go to Doose's and come up with an excuse as to why I'm buying food with actual substance, 2: Ask Lane to go to Doose's with me or for me, 3: Eat basically nothing.
After a bit of thought, I decide to go with option 2, because I really need to go to get some real food, and having comfort with a friend would also be nice. I head out the door, locking it before I close the door. I head over to Lane's house, and I realize that Lane might not even be home, as she might be picking the boys up from school.
I knock on the door, hoping that she's home. She opens the door.
"Hey, Rory! Did I know you were coming over today?"
"No, just a spontaneous visit" I reply, concealing a bit from her.
"Cool" she replies, and moves out of the doorway so I can go in.
"Do you want something to eat?" she asks me as I take a seat on the couch.
"No thanks. I'm kinda full" I wasn't that hungry, anyways.
"Ok, good. There's not much to eat anyways" she chuckles. "I was about to head out to the store, actually".
My shining opportunity!
"I can tag along, if you want" I tell her. "There are some things I need to pick up as well".
"Ok. Wanna head out in a minute? I have to go to the bathroom" Lane asks.
"Sounds good" I smile.
Lane comes back, and we leave to go to Doose's. We walk, because why not? As we get inside, we're greeted by various townspeople.
While we were shopping, I managed to get some heat-up things that I can have for lunch. I also got some macaroni and spaghetti, because that's easy to make. I didn't get any Pop-Tarts (although it was a bit hard not to), but got this organic thing that was shaped like a Pop-Tart, so maybe it tastes similar. I also picked up some cucumbers and hot sauce, because it sound really good together. All in all, it was a successful trip.
