Chapter 4
10:00. I would call Logan at 10:00 my time, EST, time, and it would be 3:00 London time. Hopefully Odette would be in the middle of a tea party with little sandwiches and petite fours. Or madeleines. Aren't those the French cake-cookie butter thingies? I made a mental note to ask Sookie. I looked over at the clock. 9:36. I had to think about what I was gonna say. I was gonna take the same approach I did to Mom and Lane.
Me: [Other Person's Name]
Other person: Yeah?
Me: I'm pregnant.
Saying just the other person's name makes it seem casual, like it's not a big deal. But it is.
Ding! Ding! I turned on my phone.
"Timer done" it read. It was time. It was 10:00. I "x"ed out of the timer notification thingy, and unlocked my phone. I went to the "phone" app and dialed Logan's number, of course, because I took him out of my contacts. I stared at the haunting "Dial" button, hesitated, and then clicked my worst fear.
The phone rang. And rang. And rang. Finally, a prerecording of Logan started. "Hi, you've reached the phone of Logan Huntzburger. Leave a message at the beep". I didn't expect for Logan to not pick up, but I decided to do a voicemail. "Start talking at the beep. You may hang up once you are done with your message" an automated voice instructed me. Then, I heard a "beep" and my mind went blank. "Uh, hi. Hi Logan. I was hoping to catch you, but you either didn't answer or aren't available. Please call me back when you can. Thanks. Bye". It was a short, and to-the-point message. Being pregnant is sadly not short and to-the-point.
At around noon, I took a walk around town to get some food. I stopped by Doose's to get some Lucky Charms and Fruit Loops. I walked over to the register to purchase my items. I passed some Stars Hollow favorites, Babbette and Gypsy. As I waited in line, I heard a "bing" from my purse. I figured it was my phone. I opened it, and saw a notification.
I also screamed.
"Oh my Gosh!" I gasped.
"Honey, are you okay dear?" An elderly woman who was behind me in line asked.
"Oh. Yes. I didn't realize I said anything. Thanks for asking" I smiled at the lady.
"Next in Line!" The register told everyone. I walked over to register 5. I couldn't believe Logan called.
On the way home, I told myself that I had to wait to listen to the messages. Would he be angry? Would he be curious? Would he bail? Would he stay? What would happen? I opened the door to my house. I took my purse of and laid it onto the floor. I sat down, and reached for the boots I was wearing. I took them off, then my hand extended to get my purse. I opened it, and took my phone out. I walked over to the kitchen, sat down, and opened a pop-tart. I unlocked my phone. I hit the "Listen" button on Logan's voicemail. I didn't know what would come next.
