Chapter 1

Rory's POV-
(starts DIRECTLY after AYINTL)

Rory opened her mouth.

"You're... preg... what?" Mom stammered, her head turning to look at me so fast it could've been a bolt of lightning.

"I'm pregnant."

"You're... but... how? When?" she talks, faster than normal, her hair whipping around in the wind. Her hands zoom across her brow to brush her hair out of the way. I quickly remove a navy elastic ponytail holder off of my wrist, and hand it to her. Maybe she'll use it, just this once. She hasn't been putting her hair up as much as she used to. She accepts the hair tie, and looks at me. Again.

"Two or three months ago," I tell her, and I can tell in her eyes that she's disappointed. Let down. It's not the 'being pregnant' part that makes her wary; she understands that, it's the 'waiting so long to tell her' part.

"Honey... you're pregnant? You're sure?" She needs to confirm it. Lorelai Gilmore, Queen of Impulsive Decisions, is waiting on clarification. But then again, she is the mother of Lorelai Gilmore (that's me), Princess of Thinking Things Through.

"Yeah, mom. I'm definitely sure." I can't bear to look at her visage, curling with dismay. My eyes focus on a stale cigarette, left on the ground, practically an anomaly in a town like Stars Hollow.

"Hon..." She put her arm around me. "Congrats!"

"Yeah... Thanks, mom." I breathed a sigh of relief. I hope my face masks my surprise well. Now, the wind has calmed down, and everything is. . . soft. And serene. All is normal again in the land of Gilmore Girls.

"Who knows? Lane?" she questioned, curious if she was the first or last person I told.

"Nope, not yet. Hopefully she'll know, soon. I wanted you to know first."

"Not even the father?" Mom sounded surprised, but I can tell there's a bit of pride mixed in.

"About that. . ."

"What?"

"It's Logan"

"I guessed as much" she told me with a smile.

"Yep," I paused, giving our conversation a moment of silence, "But, you know, we broke up. Well, technically we weren't even together. . ." I trailed off.

"What are your plans on telling him?" The Queen of Impulsive Decisions is gone. My Mom has replaced her.

"Uh, I don't know. I was actually hoping you'd give me insight on all this." I remarked, wondering if I was pushing my luck.

"Rory, it's your choice. Do what you think is best."

"I know, but. . . a bit of advice might help me make 'my choice.'"

"It's okay to not know what you want. Make a pro-con list" mom suggested.

"Are you mocking me?" I smiled, and so did she. "You are right, though! I have yet to do that."

"See? Mull it over, think about it. You'll know when the answer is right." Gosh, she doesn't know how much I hope that's true.

"Thanks, mom. Thanks". She replied with just a smile, and looked out at the town. Her arm was still around me, and I liked it there. I was tired, because I woke up for the marriage and, also, being pregnant and all. To interrupt my thoughts, I heard a ding. It was my mom's text tone. She disconnected her arm from mine and unlocked her phone. She opened her mouth, and starting typing, rapid-fire Gilmore style clicks echoing around the Gazebo.

"What's up, mom?" I sensed something bad, a wave of worry crashing over our heads.

"Oh, nothing. Just wedding preparations" she replied with a quick grin, and looked back at her phone. It rang this time, and it was Luke. Exceptions can be make for Luke.

"Sorry, kiddo. One sec." Mom answered, and strided away from the gazebo.

I waited for a while, until my phoned binged too. It was from mom. She said, "Problem with the flash mob. Luke still wants Steely Dan. I'll be @ the house ASAP" Ahh, that Luke. I stood up and walked down the gazebo steps. I headed towards the house. I was stopped my Babette once I came closer to the house.

"Hey, sugar. Ready for the weddin' today?" The town. They're all so excited for the wedding, it's straight out of a storybook.

"Yep" I replied. "Can't wait. It's finally happening!" I started thinking about Luke and mom. It was a love story, and I watched it all happen, just like Mom watched Sookie and Jackson's story happen. A thought hit me. What will Luke think about the pregnancy? Oh no. Will mom tell him? Or would I have to? What'll this do to this and mom's relationship? What will Jess think? Oh no. Oh, no, oh no oh no oh no! Suddenly, I heard a clang.

"Must be the new kittens. Sorry doll!" Babette ran (as quickly as a woman at her age could run, anyways) to her side door. I walked up the stairs to the porch, and looked in my pocket for the key. I found it, turned the knob, and opened the door. Creak went the door as I closed it. I slid my gray flats off, my feet aching terribly, and laid down on the couch.

Being an adult is hard.
