Chapter 3
The wedding reception went into the early morning hours before people started heading home. Luke and Lorelai spend their wedding night alone in Lorelei's house. Rory wanted to give them privacy, so she stayed with Zach and Lane. Jess wasn't heading back to New York for a couple weeks. He agreed to stay at Luke's apartment and run the diner while they were on their honeymoon. Emily and Richard stayed at the Dragonfly in their best suite.
"Steve! Kwan! Come on, leave Aunt Rory alone. Not everyone gets up with the sun like you two!" Zach yelled from the kitchen causing Rory to open her eyes and see two dark haired little boys staring at her.
"Hey guys. You got so big," she said as she pulled them both on to the couch with her. They snuggled right in and started pointing to the tv.
"Sorry, Mrs. Kim has them on a pretty strict schedule. They are allowed 30 minutes of tv time in the morning. And they don't want to miss out. She's our prime babysitter and, well, you know her. We have to stick to her schedule," Zach said as he came into the living room with a cup of coffee for Rory.
"No problem," Rory said, " I should probably be getting up anyway. I promised to get out to the square and direct the clean up efforts so Taylor doesn't lose his mind. Did you see what all the dancing did to the grass? I would be shocked if he doesn't call an emergency town meeting to raise funds for lawn repair!"
"Oh yeah, Dude's going to go crazy today. I looked out earlier. He already had Kirk climbing trees to take down the twinkle lights. Let me tell you, Kirk on a ladder? Not cool, man. Not cool at all," Zach laughed.
Lane came out of the bedroom and said, "Good morning everyone. That was the prettiest wedding I have ever been to. And, even though it's been a while, I think Hep Alien rocked. I am still pumped!" Looking at the boys, she said, " Anyone hungry?" She was answered with two little hands shooting in the air. So she and Rory headed toward the kitchen.
On her way past the window, Rory looked out and saw the clean up efforts were already underway. "Crap, so much for a relaxing morning. I better get out there. The maid of honor has responsibilities."

Out in the square, Rory was greeted by the sound of Taylor's voice, " No, no, people. We have to carefully wrap the lights for packing away. I guess there is some unknown light fund that support the reckless handling of these things. Kirk, Kirk, I know you can hear me up there in that tree! Kirk, don't rip the lights down! We must carefully unwrap them and coil them as we go. We need to preserve these for the Twinkle Light Festival. Woodbridge will not beat us again this year!"
Rory just shook her head and smiled. It was good to be home.
Later that afternoon, aside from some trampled grass, the town was back in order. There was some minor debate over the return placement of two benches, but Taylor's archived photos gave direction as to their rightful positions.
"So, Mr. and Mrs. Danes, I will be leaving with you in the morning. I have to get back to the crew," Rory announced.
"I thought you were going to take a few more days?" Lorelai asked.
"I was going to, but there is so much preparation for the debates. I need to start some research. I have kind of taken over that part. We are all out for our own stories, but work together in some aspects. The team relies on me to have all the leg work done," Rory explained.
Luke said, " That doesn't seem fair. Sounds like you are doing all the work."
"Not really. I don't really mind anyway. I have a system. I have all the topics to be covered researched and divided into subcategories in my color coded binders. It really makes things more efficient," Rory said.
"Well, you are still welcome to join us on part of our honeymoon. A few days on a beach with a cocktail in your hand would do you good!" Lorelai said.
Rory turned down the offer politely, " It's your honeymoon! I am not intruding. I really do need to get back anyway. I will check in with you in a few days. Love you both. Have a great time!"

A crowd of reporters, journalist, and camera people gathered in front of the bus Rory had come to see as her second home and waited for Hugo Grey to begin his speech.
"We are about to leave for the series of presidential debates. I just want to say that I am so pleased with this entire team up to this point. We have really assembled some hard working, dedicated, talented individuals. This point of the election trail is where things get really serious and everyone will be put to the real test. Up until now, with the exception of the Democratic National Convention, we have covered smaller scale events like town meetings and fundraisers. The debates are the big leagues. We will be elbow to elbow with CNN, MSNBC, and HPC. Now we won't have the access or position given to the "big dogs", but we will have a presence. If anyone has any contacts or ins, now would be the time to contact them. We are a smaller online paper, but we are making an impact. We have an opportunity to make a bigger name for ourselves in the coming months with quality, in-depth, accurate stories. I have full confidence we will stand out and deliver some spectacular stories. Thanks again for all your hard work, folks! Let's go get 'em!"
Rory leaned against the bus and listened to the speech feeling more and more nauseous as Hugo continued. She knew there was a chance of running into Logan or Mitchum or someone associated with the Huntzbergers during this election trail. So far, she had been lucky in that the paper she was working for was smaller and did not have the clout and prominence to get to the front row. And most of the events before this were not a big enough deal to send the heads of Huntzberger Publishing Company. But this was big enough and important enough to warrant an appearance from Logan or Mitchum. Though she hadn't spoken to nor seen Logan since rejecting his proposal, she secretly followed him and knew what he was doing. She knew he went back to work for his father's company after his father suffered a minor heart attack. She knew that Mitchum's health scare had given Logan the power and freedom he needed. Mitchum wasn't the ironclad leader of the company he once was. Logan had a very prominent leadership role now. And there was an excellent chance she would be running into him in the coming months.
The thought made her sick and giddy at the same time. Would he be angry with her? Would he be pleased to see her? Would they even speak? Should she contact him as an "in" to get a better story opportunity?
