Part 22

Rory woke up in her hotel suite with a pounding head.  The side of her face felt scratchy.  She pushed the red wig that had fallen off her head in the middle of the night and embedded itself to her cheek off the pillow.  It slid to the floor and landed in a red puddle.  She turned her head and saw someone with jet black hair next to her.

She jumped and nearly screamed until she remembered Logan had been wearing a black wig the night before.

Rory tried to remember more about the night before.  She noted she was completely naked.  From that, she deduced she and Logan had most likely been intimate, though she couldn't really remember. Rory struggled to remember if Logan had used a condom.  She was no longer on the pill, so she hoped he had enough sense and sobriety to use protection.

She ran a hand over her face angry at herself for being so irresponsible.  Something caught in her hair.  She pulled her left hand away from her face and saw the glint of gold in the sunlight filtering through the haphazardly drawn shades.

Logan opened his eyes as she stared at her hand.

"I have one too," he said in a gruff voice holding up his hand.

"Did we..."  Rory asked turning to look at him.

"I think so..."  Logan said squinting in the light.  "I remember Steph and Colin's wedding.  Then we were walking..."

"In omnia paratus,"  Rory whispered.  "You said 'let's do it'."

"You said 'ok'.  Elvis recognized us when we went back.  I hassled him for a discount on the rings and tried to buy his pink Cadillac,"  Logan said remembering.  "Wow, we are pretty romantic when we are wasted, huh?"

"We're married," Rory whispered looking at the simple gold band.

"We must have been laying here looking at the marriage certificate,"  Logan said staring at the ceiling.

"What?"  Rory asked confused until she glanced up at the ceiling.  "Did we tape our marriage certificate to the ceiling?"

Logan laughed and then moaned as he held his hungover head.  "Yeah, we did.  Neither of us could hold it still enough to read.  I remember now.  It's not taped.  We didn't have tape.  I pinned it into the plaster with one of your earrings.  We thought it would be the best place to see it after we consummated the marriage."

"Wow.  I don't remember that part.  Must have been your idea,"  Rory said holding her head. "I need coffee."

"Yeah, that's a good idea.  You want to order room service?  I want to grab a quick shower, hopefully clear my head,"  Logan said.  "I think we need to talk."

A short while later, both Rory and Logan had showered and were dressed.  Logan had to wear the same pants, but Rory happened to have one of his old shirts and a pair of his boxers that she usually slept in for him to change into.

Rory had texted Lane while Logan was in the shower.  She told her Logan was in her room and they were talking.  Rory didn't give Lane any hint as to what had happened the night before.  She just told her she would not be coming to the band rehearsal that was scheduled to start in a couple hours, but would be at the concert that night.  She didn't want Lane to worry, but needed some time alone with Logan to sort through the events and decide what they were going to do.  Lane responded with several thumbs up and smiley faces.  Rory hoped she would be smiling after this conversation.

"So...I guess we pieced together most of last night,"  Logan said as they sat at the small table by the sliding door to the balcony.  He poured Rory another cup of coffee.  The coffee was like magic.  They were both feeling a bit better and less groggy.

"Yeah, I think we figured out the gist of the events,"  Rory said waiting for a sign as to how Logan felt about this whole situation.

"What do you think?"  Logan asked getting right to the point.

"I, uh, well..."  Rory stuttered. She swallowed, "What do you think?"

"I thought my wife, the writer, would be better with words,"  Logan said smiling as he teased her.

Rory smiled back and said, "I was afraid my husband thought we made a huge mistake.  If I recall correctly, he wanted to go slow.  Then he ended up proposing to me on a Vegas street. Now I am wondering if he regrets it."

Logan laughed, "Got me there. Well, I don't know if it was a huge mistake, but it was certainly impulsive."  He took Rory's hand and played with her wedding ring.  "I don't regret it," he said softly, "do you?"

She looked up from their joined hands, "No, I don't regret it."  She held his gaze for a few minutes.  Then she asked, "How...when...well, what do we do now though?"

"I'm not sure actually,"  Logan said.  Thinking, he said, "Since no one knows, why don't we keep this to ourselves for a bit?  It's not a regret thing or trying to hide it, Rory."  He kissed her gently at her worried look.  "We have a few weeks until the tour is over.  We can have this time to ourselves and enjoy each other.  Let's face it, the crap will hit the fan when we go back to Connecticut and announce this.  Let's just enjoy it for a bit."

Rory was relieved.  At first she thought he wanted to hide their relationship.  She was very happy to hear he just wanted to enjoy being together for a bit.  She was also pleased to hear that he intended to tell their families when they got home, though a little leery of Mitchum and Shira's eventual response.  "I think that's a good idea.  But I can't hide this from Lane!  Our secret will be safe with her."

"Well, if Lane gets to know, then I should be allowed to tell Finn,"  Logan said.

"You can't tell him! You know Finn can't keep a secret! Colin, Robert, Rosemary, and everyone else will know in minutes!"  Rory said.

"So what?  Our little group is already keeping one wedding a secret.  What's one more?"  Logan asked grinning.

"You do have a point there,"  Rory said laughing.  "Ok, I guess we can tell everyone tonight after the concert.  I am pretty sure we invited everyone last night."  Then she got serious.  She looked down and said quietly, "Uh, Logan?"

Logan noticed the change in her.  Concerned, he asked, "What's wrong?"

"I think we had sex last night," she said.

"And that's wrong?"  Logan asked raising a brow. "I'd like to say it was very good, but I don't remember all that much."

"No, no, not wrong.  And I am sure it was good.  But, that not remembering part is kind of the problem.  Uh, do you happen to remember using a condom?"  Rory said looking up at him.

"No, but I had two in my wallet.  I remember because I purposely brought a couple hoping you'd invite me back to your room after the race and bar,"  he said as he crossed the room to grab his wallet on the nightstand.  He opened it up and flipped through, "And...there are still two in here."

"Oh..."  Rory said nervous once again about Logan's response.

"Ok, well, the way I see it, we have two choices.  They make that Plan B pill.  It's prescription, not over the counter yet, but I know a doctor that would write you a prescription if you wanted," he said sitting back down next to her.  He held her hands in his and looked into her eyes.  "Or, since we are in Vegas, we can roll the dice and see how things land."

Rory looked at him.  In that moment, she knew she did not want to take the pill.  "Feeling lucky?" she asked smiling.

"I have been feeling lucky since you said 'in omnia paratus' last night,"  Logan said kissing her.

Later that night, Rory and Logan stood in the wings of the stage near Marv watching Hep Alien perform their first show in Las Vegas. Marv was grumpy as usual and not pleased to have someone else standing in 'his' area.  He purposely kept bumping them out of the way with his giant camera.  Rory ignored him as she and Logan enjoyed the show.  Finn and the gang were having a great time in the front row.  Rory made sure they all had passes to get backstage after the show.

Lane and Hep Alien were putting on a great show.  The Vegas crowd was loud and responsive.  They had already performed two encores.  Rory knew "Goodnight Lanie"  would be playing very soon.  She pulled Logan toward the backstage dressing suite.

The security posted at the door recognized Rory and held the door open for them.  Rory went in and made herself at home.  She knew Lane kept orange seltzer waters in the frig.  She grabbed one and flopped on the couch.  Logan grabbed a beer and sat next to her.

Sara came out of the bathroom and was startled to see Logan and Rory.  "Oh hey guys, didn't hear you out here," she said as she sat down shakily.

"Sara, are you alright?  No offense, but you look a little green,"  Rory said.

"Morning sickness does not reflect its name,"  Sara said.

"Oh you poor thing.  Can I get you anything?  Water? Ginger ale?  Saltines?"  Rory asked.  At Logan's questioning glance, she said, "What?  They work for a tummy ache."

"Nah, I'm ok.  It's usually just one run to the restroom, then things settle out.  I am very close to the end of my first trimester.  It seems to be letting up a bit,"  she said.  "Brian is a mess.  He is so worried about me.  I'm glad this time he wasn't here."  She looked at them sheepishly, "You don't have to mention this to him."

Logan looked at Rory.  He wondered if he would be worried about her soon.  He was surprised to discover he liked the thought of Rory carrying his baby even though the thought terrified him at the same time.  Rory said to Sara, "Brian is a great guy.  He means well. Secret is safe with us."

The band and all their friends came barging in just then.  Lane helped herself to a big sip of Rory's seltzer.  She wiped her forehead and said, "Even with air conditioning, Vegas is hot!"

"It's like a desert,"  Zack and Finn said in unison.  They looked at each other and laughed.  Zack grabbed a couple beers and tossed one to Finn.

"Good man," Finn said referring to Zack.  Zack then handed out drinks to the rest of the group.

Sara handed Brian his inhaler and rubbed his back as he settled himself.  She shot a pleading look at Rory and Logan.  They nodded in response.

"Great show guys!"  Rosemary said.

"Yeah, thank you so much for the awesome seats," Juliet said.

"No problem.  You looked like you all had a good time,"  Gil said.  "Thanks for the panties," he said looking at Rosemary.

She blushed and said, "It was dare."  She elbowed Finn.

"I am so glad Mama wasn't here to see that.  I can hear it now. 'The devil's panties' and the girl that wore them, " Lane said laughing.  "Speaking of Mama, I should check in on the boys," she said as she excused herself to make a call in the adjoining room.

The group chatted about the show until Lane returned.  She reentered the room and squeezed on to the couch next to Rory.  She said, "Ok, so tell me about last night!  What was the event you guys kidnapped Rory for?"

Finn told his account of the night complete with several Elvis reenactments including hip gyrations.

"Woah, that's cool!  I'd like to see those cars,"  Gil said.

"Well, you'll have to ask Logan since we no longer have a say what happens to them,"  Robert said.

"Sore loser,"  Logan teased.  "I won them fair and square."

"The race was fun, but the after-party was better,"  Juliet said.  "Just ask the Mr. and Mrs.!"

"Who got married?"  Lane asked excitedly looking around the room.

Steph and Colin held up their hands showing off their rings.  They were beaming and kissed to the cheers.

"Oh wow!  Congrats!  Totally rock and roll.  A Vegas wedding,"  Gil said.

"There was a little more rocking and rolling,"  Logan said getting everyone's attention.  The group all looked at him questioningly.  Slowly, he and Rory held up their left hands.
