Part 21
"That was so cool! Was that legal? Where did you get these cars? Where are we?" Rory asked as Logan slowed the car and parked near the others.
"Writing another article, Ace?" Logan asked grinning at her. "You know the Life and Death Brigade has ways to pull off these stunts."
Then he unbuckled her and pulled her towards him. He pressed her body against his and kissed her hungrily. "I kind of like the black hair on you," Rory murmured touching his head. "Oh wow! It's hard!"
"Yeah...my hair is too," Logan muttered kissing her again as she laughed.
"Rory!" Steph yelled as she yanked open Rory's door.
"Always with the great timing, Steph," Logan complained.
"Zip it, Huntzberger," she said as she pulled Rory in for a hug. Rory was then grabbed by Rosemary, then Juliet.
"I missed you guys!" Rory said in the middle of the group of girls. The guys were off to the side talking about something and exchanging papers.
"We missed you too!" Rosemary said. "We were so excited when Logan called and told us we were doing an event and you were coming!" Then more quietly, she asked, "So, what's going on? Is Rogan back?"
"Rogan? Oh god, is that like Bennifer?" Rory asked laughing.
"Has a nice ring to it," Juliet said.
"I'm working on it. I'll tell you more later," she said quietly to them.
A minute later, Finn grabbed Rory from behind and swung her in the air. He said in her ear, "Oh Love, you know my weakness for redheads. Want to go for a ride with me?"
"Put me down, Finn!" Rory said giggling. Then, touching her wig, she said, "I kind of like the red. Maybe I should keep it."
"You keep the red, I keep the black helmet," Logan said. "Give me back my woman, Finn. You have your own." He put his arm around Rory and said, "It's hot in this sandbox. What do you say we move on to Phase 2 of this evening?"
"Phase 2? There's a Phase 2?" Rory asked.
"When have our nights together ended so quickly?" Colin said laughing as he guided Steph back to their car.
"We'll see you back in town," Robert said as he and Juliet climbed back into their car.
"Be careful with my cars! I want to see them safely back in one piece!" Logan yelled. Finn made a face as they drove away.
"Your cars?" Rory asked turning towards him.
"Winner takes all. Want a mint condition roadster from the 1960s? I happen to own four now. Finn was kind of attached to his. You could sell it back to him, make a nice little bundle," Logan said smiling.
A short while later, all four cars pulled up to an Elvis Presley themed club and casino. Valets took the keys to the cars and the group gathered to enter together. Of course they were on the VIP list, so they walked right in. Rory looked around amazed. Everything was Elvis. All the patrons and staff were dressed up as either Elvis or a character from one of his movies. Rory laughed when she spotted at least six other Ann-Margarets. She waved to one that winked at her. The King of Rock and Roll's music was playing loudly while several men impersonated him while gyrating their hips. There were Elvis and Priscilla slot machines and themed games scattered around. Huge posters adorned the walls. Statues were placed in various spots. The entire place was a shrine to Elvis Presley.
"This place is awesome!" Steph said.
"I am with my people," Finn said striking an Elvis pose. "Come on, Priscilla, our table awaits," he said to Rosemary.
A waiter escorted them to a large table against the wall. A very large velvet Elvis stared down at the table. The waiter took order of vodka gimlets for the women and whiskey sours for the men before handing them menus and leaving the table.
"I love that the drinks are even from Elvis's time!" Juliet said. "So cool!"
"Yep, and I told the waiter to keep them coming!" Robert said.
The group looked over the menu and had their selections in mind when the waiter returned with the first round of drinks.
They munched on appetizers and chatted for a while. The waiter brought the second round of drinks after the appetizers were gone.
Rory asked Steph about her wedding plans. "Ugh, I am already frustrated. My mother and grandmother are driving me crazy! They keep talking about ice sculptures and fancy French lace. I just wanted simple! Small and simple sounded great to me. But, no! It has to be a big society affair for the press. It's not even going to feel like my wedding," Steph complained guzzling the rest of her drink as the waiter brought a third round.
"Hey, babe, we're in Vegas! We could just elope here, be done with it," Colin offered putting an arm around her shoulders.
"Keep these drinks coming at me like this and I will agree to anything!" Steph said.
"You should! We're all here! It would be fun. You're getting married anyway. Then when your mom is driving you nutty, you will have a little secret in your head. It will make you feel better and not care so much about her plans. You'll get the wedding you wanted," Rosemary said.
"Listen to you, promoting trouble! That's my girl!" Finn said to Rosemary kissing her neck.
"Can I be maid of honor?" Rosemary asked.
"No way! I get to be maid of honor!" Juliet protested.
"It's a Vegas wedding! We all can be! I don't think there are any real rules here," Rory said encouraging the idea.
"You guys are nuts! We can't do that. That's a crazy idea," Steph said. "Eat your dinner." She started picking at her food, but gave a sly smile to Colin.
By the time dinner was done, they were all a bit tispy. The girls decided to go dance off some of the booze while the men wanted to waste some money gambling.
They had been on the dance floor a while dancing to endless Elvis tunes when the girls realized they were all hot and thirsty, so they took a break and hit the bar again. Sitting at a high top table, Steph asked, "It is a crazy idea, right?"
"Getting married here?" Rory asked for clarification. At Steph's nod, Rory considered the idea. She said, "Not really, like Rosemary said, you are going to anyway. Then whatever your mom is planning won't seem like such a big deal. It would just be a party for the show of it."
"Wow, Rory, you must be drunk! You are supporting a crazy LDB idea?" Juliet laughed.
Rory laughed back, "It's not that crazy. It would be crazy for me and Logan to do it. Steph and Colin are halfway there already anyway. They are engaged and planning a wedding. Actually getting married isn't exactly a far stretch."
"I want to do it!" Steph said grinning and jumping up. "I have to find Colin." She darted away from the table towards the blackjack game as the other girls stared after her.
An hour later, the entire group found themselves at The Little White Wedding Chapel. There were dozens of chapels, but they decided to stick with the Elvis theme of the evening as everyone was already dressed for it. It was a cute little chapel that provided everything, one stop shopping. Colin and Steph were even able to buy rings there.
Colin and Steph stood together at the front of the chapel. Rory, Rosemary, and Juliet stood to the side of Steph, all standing in as maid of honor. Logan, Finn, and Robert stood to side of Colin, all acting as best man. Elvis, or a very good impersonator, was performing the ceremony in a bright red jumpsuit with gold starbursts and a thick gold belt.
After Steph and Colin said "I do", Elvis broke into song. He serenaded the newlyweds with "I Can't Help Falling in Love" as they danced right there in the chapel. Despite the ridiculousness of the scene, Rory and the girls all had moist eyes. They all ended up dancing and enjoying the complimentary champagne.
The group went to another bar to celebrate after signing all the official forms. They all partied for the next couple hours until Steph and Colin decided it was time for their wedding night to begin. They left hand in hand. Finn and Rosemary decided they should go celebrate Steph and Colin too. They took off together towards Rosemary's hotel. And since, everyone else seemed to be in the spirit, Juliet and Robert left together presumably for Robert's room.
Logan and Rory decided to walk back to Rory's hotel since it was only about ten blocks. They wandered The Strip leisurely, leaning on each other as they were stumbling a little after too many drinks. Driving one of the little roadsters was not an option at that point with the amount of alcohol in their systems.
"I can't believe they did it! If Steph's mom finds out, she will kill her!" Rory said giggling.
"Nah, she'll just ignore it and throw them a huge, over the top wedding anyway, probably add more ice sculptures and real swans," Logan said. Logan thought for a moment and said, "Hmmm, Colin is a married man now."
"Strange, isn't it?" Rory said. Then she softened and smiled, "But it is sort of romantic."
"Yeah, Elvis really tugged at the heartstrings with his hip movements throughout the ceremony. I know I nearly swooned when he said 'bless this hunka-hunka-burnin-love'," Logan said.
Rory laughed. "Ok, maybe not that part. But the idea. It's just so spontaneous, so sweet. I mean, they just went for it."
Logan stopped Rory and faced her with his hands on her hips. He looked into her eyes. "You like the idea of getting married here in Vegas, just spur of the moment?" he asked.
Rory raised one arm high in the air and shouted, "In omnia paratus!" Then she giggled.
Logan waited until her laughter stopped. Then he looked at her seriously and said, "Then let's do it, Ace."
