Epilogue
"Are you sure you are up to a party? It's only been a couple weeks? Maybe Ali shouldn't be around so many people so soon. I don't know. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea," Logan asked concerned.
"Logan! Alexis is perfectly healthy and eager to see everyone," Rory said snuggling the little pink bundle in her arms.
Alexis Lorelai Huntzberger was born a few days earlier than her expected arrival. But she was healthy and strong at 7 pounds 7 ounces. Finn was planning on naming the official winner of the baby pool at the party that day. The party was a combination house warming and meet-the-baby affair. Of course, the whole family had already met her and seen the house, but Rory wanted a formal gathering with everyone there at once. She was proud of the house and loved showing off her daughter. Rory was happier than she had ever been and wanted to enjoy it with her friends and family.
"Ok, ok, but if you are feeling tired or she gets overwhelmed, I am kicking everyone out!" Logan said. "I mean it! They are all gone!"
Rory laughed, "Alright, fine. If I yawn or she starts screaming, you can get rid of everyone. Will you take her for a few minutes? I want to set up some things before Sookie and Luke get here with the food."
Logan grinned and held out his arms for his daughter. He held her carefully and wandered out of the kitchen to let Rory set up her food table. "Mommy pretty much booted us out, didn't she? She just wants her kitchen to be perfect for all the guests. Don't worry, we'll find something fun to do."
Ali's eyes opened wide when the doorbell rang. Logan rocked her and said, "Don't be scared, just the doorbell. Guess the first of the guests have arrived. Let's go see who it is."
Before Logan and Ali could get to the door, it opened. "Heeellllo? Nana Lorelai is here! Ah, there is my little girl! Hi Pumpkin!" Lorelai gave the baby a little kiss before carrying all the bags she brought to the kitchen. Luke followed behind with big platters of food.
"Oh good! You guys are early! I was just setting up. Thank you so much for making most of the food, Luke!" Rory said.
"Got everything you asked for. I need to heat up a few things, then I'll put it all out," Luke said.
The doorbell rang again. From the kitchen they could hear Sookie cooing and making baby talk to Ali. Then she appeared in the doorway of the kitchen. "The desserts have arrived. I think I outdid myself this time. Here are all the cookies and cupcakes and tarts. I have the cake still in the car. I'll be right back with it. Just let me know where to set up."
As Sookie ran back out to get the rest of her baked goods, Lorelai said, "Smart, very, very smart. Put Luke and Sookie on different jobs."
"I've been around long enough to know they will fight if food and a kitchen is involved! Sookie was thrilled to have free reign with the cake. I can't wait to see what she created," Rory said.
Rory didn't have to wait long. Sookie walked in, with Jackson helping her, carrying a large cake. Rory and Lorelai stared in amazement at the beautiful creation. It was a three tiered cake with the top two elevated above the bottom layer. It was pink and decorated with white sugar lotus flowers and dragonflies.
"Oh wow, Sookie! You outdid yourself! It's perfect!" Lorelai told her best friend.
"I wanted something special for our little girl," Sookie said tinkering with a lotus flower petal.
Rory hugged her, "It's just perfect."
Soon the house was full of guests. Both of their families were there. Most of Stars Hollow had also come to check out the house and see the baby. And all of their friends made the trip to help them celebrate. Rory was happy she had decided on the party. The house felt right full of people. She stood back and watched her guests pass around the baby and eat the food with a smile on her face.
"Hey Ace, you look pleased," Logan said wrapping his arms around her.
"I am pleased. Everything is just perfect," she said looking at Logan.
"Everything is perfect. I am so happy we found each other again. I can't imagine my life without you or now Ali," Logan said kissing her.
Rory put her arms around him and said, "We have the dream."
Well, all good things must eventually come to an end. Thank you to everyone that has followed, read, voted, and commented on this story. I hope you have enjoyed it. It has been so much fun to write.
I will be taking a little break from writing Gilmore Girls stories as I focus on my original story "Beyond the Door". It is a suspenseful, dark romance book quite different than my Gilmore Girls stories, but I am excited about it. I would be thrilled if you would give it a read.
I have more ideas for new Gilmore Girls stories, so I will be back!
