the enchanted. backstory — the nightwings are a powerful family of moor-valyrian: with magic welders, blood mages, and dragonriders as their kin. the family used to rule over old valyria and were the ones to bring the beasts that are dragons to life. as everyone seems to forget, the nightwings were also the only family of dragonlords besides the targaryens who survived the doom. because of their involvement in such magic, their dragons are said to grow much faster, bigger, and stronger than the targaryen's. following the doom of valyria, just as the velaryons and targaryens were on the verge of extinction, so were the nightwings— only they suffered a greater loss of people.

back when the noble family ruled over their ancient city, their hands were normally someone of their own blood. whenever it didn't, they always went to the velaryons for assistance rather than the targaryens. since time existed, there has always been tension between the two powerful families even before the doom started. because of their differences in race and clash of personalities, the nightwings strayed away from the targaryens. they despised how reckless— how cruel they could be and always saw them as unnecessary ticking timebombs.

there were also numerous allegations held against aegon l targaryen and his sister-wives for stealing their dragon eggs when fleeing to dragonstone. separating from the others and fleeing across the shimmering sea, astronomy l nightwing and his people rebuilt civilization into a kingdom called crescentina— the same place where estella nightwing would be born. an ancient kingdom only ever brought up in fairytales said to be made out of the sky itself. as astronomy and his people crossed the shimmering sea, because of the fog, the nightwings resulted to using the stars as their compass—creating the celestial navigation strategy. thereby giving them their house's saying: "may the old stars and the new be our compass."

before estella's mother aemma arryn married her cousin viserys, she was wedded to a man named astronomy l nightwing who was king of crescentina at the time. the two would give birth to estella shortly after their were wedded— but following aemma's complications with childbirth, that would be the only child they have together. to this day, estella never heard much about her father.. just that he supposedly died overseas when she was two years old: the same year aemma would remarry and take viserys targaryen as her second husband. upon their marriage estella would be forced to leave her homeland and sail to king's landing with her mother to live within the red keep with her new father— and shortly after, her younger half sister, rhaenyra targaryen.
