Nature, The Best Listener

Nature keeps secrets better than any man
In my life I learned this lesson young, running out into open pastures
And listening woods, their ears open to hear my frustrations for the day
Shouting at the top of my lungs, waiting for the trees' responses
They came in the form of skittering animal paws
And wind lazily carrying dying leaves far above my curl filled head
In those moments, where I felt awe and oneness with my surroundings
I had no secrets
The warm forest greens, and bustling wildlife were all listening to me
For those few moments in my life I was being heard
For those few moments in my life, someone wanted to listen
As I got older I forgot about those who openly listened to me
Replaced with those who pretended they cared, and would share my secrets as I had without a second thought
Betrayal made me feel as if I could no longer let anyone listen
That there was no one who truly cared to hear what I had to say, unless they could use it for personal gain
But I never once remembered the forest
And that nature
Keeps secrets better than any man
