Chapter two: Tears of Perfection(part 1)
A titanic oak tree occupied the forefront of Kitty's picture, one that had intricate leaves that seemed to be made from pure silver. It sat squarely on a massive windswept moor, overshadowed by stern grey clouds that marched like soldiers across the top of the page. Kitty could almost smell the approach of rain, and hear the clinking rustle of the tree's leaves.
"Kitty? Are you alright?" Asked her mother.
"Yes," said Kitty, jumping up from the table and quickly hiding her picture, "I'm fine. I'm... going down to the basement, see you later!" She turned and hurried from the room, leaving her confused family in her wake.
Kitty flew down the stairs, not bothering to turn the basement light on. She spent so much time down here that she could find her way to her workstation no matter the conditions, and so it came as quite a shock when she rounded the last corner and found herself... in a field.
Kitty heard an odd humming sound behind her, and turned in bafflement to find... a hole in the air?! Yes, it was a hole, one big enough to walk through! The edges were ragged, almost as though an invisible knife had slashed a hole between worlds, which, Kitty realized with a touch of awe, wasn't too far from what must have actually happened. She was standing here, under bright, welcoming sunshine, staring at her workstation through a tear in the air.
She should be frighted, she thought. But, somehow, she wasn't. This place, where ever it was, wouldn't let her be. Instead, she was calmer than she could remember ever being before. She turned slowly to face away from the hole, knowing she should go back to her side before something happened, but somehow she couldn't bring herself to leave this wonderful place so soon.
Kitty gazed in awe at the beauty of this strange world. A few cotton-candy clouds waltzed across an unnaturally blue sky. An enormous castle with flawless stone walls was directly in front of her. Kitty stared as two figures in silver armor that shone just a bit to brightly in the sun walked in perfect sync along one of the high walls. Flags snapped crisply in a breeze that was much to light to send them billowing so, and the grass was emerald green, every blade the exact same height.
Kitty heard hooves. She gasped as a herd of storybook horses galloped playfully from behind one of the rolling hills. Their hooves kicked up perfect swirls of dust, and yet the grass was as fresh and un-marred as ever after their gleaming hooves has passed. They filed to a perfect stop by the castle walls and began to drink from the crystal moat.
Kitty found her feet had propelled her several feet away from the tear, and forced herself to stop. She sat down on the soft grass and soaked it all in. The grass rustled soothingly, and birds sang from the distant woods. It would be easy to get lost here, Kitty thought. There was so much to see, so much to be discovered. She had never been happier in her life. This place took away all of her worries, all of her fears. It was almost to perfect to believe, and yet, here she was.
Here she was. Kitty stopped in her daydreaming and thought seriously for the first time since she had stumbled into this world. What was she doing here? She had to go back, to step through the tear and back into her world before it closed and she was trapped here! Somehow, she knew that it would close, and soon. In fact, when she turned around to head back, she could already see it shrinking, as if an invisible needle were sewing it up!
