Chapter 6

I look down at my fingertips and see blue sparks  jumping between my fingers. I know today is the day to avenge my mother 's death.  I am aware that I  must leave this place that once used to be a safe haven to me, it is safe no more. There is no savior that will come for me, I must save myself.

There is no Esmeralda that is coming to save me, she could be a spy for the dark lord of the cosmos like Glenda.  I look up and see my mother's smiling face. I must be hallucinating, this is my brain making things up I wish were real.

My mother frowns as the dark comes, I welcome the black gladly. Right before I let it take me in its steel grip I see a column of white, hot light. The beam shines on me and the room start to fade away into the void of darkness.

I have a gut feeling that I am being transported somewhere by some type of magic good or evil. Eventually I lose interest in the light and let the darkness claim me. Who would cast this bright, hot, white light at me and stay hidden away? Am I dying, or is this just the beginning?

I awake and I find myself alone in a pile of rubble. I hear my shallow breathing and I soon sit up to observe my surroundings. My head spins and I see black dots dance across the air. When  I lay back down on the hard rubble my  head clunks against the broken concrete sending a fresh wave pain across my body once again.

As soon as I can sit up without feeling nauseous  I slowly turn my head to right. I see the most colorful thing in this gloomy ghost town. A charred sign that says

'Welcome To The New Town Of  Newcastle, Americas Best Small Town ' renovations completed on August eighteenth twenty twenty-eight.

The sign shows what the town was supposed to look like when it would be completely renovated. I sit up and ignore the pain as my head starts spinning once again.

I realize the town had not even began to be constructed on before whatever disaster occurred that wrecked this soon to be town. I hear footsteps in the alley to my right, I whip my head around causing black dots to dance across my vision once more and realize that this is not a ghost town after all.

On the dust coated street men and women thin as a wire with bloodshot eyes  stumble around tripping over the bodies of children that lay in the street. This town may have been beautiful one time in history before the remodeling began, but now the remains are evidence that this town has been burned and is not in the greatest condition.

This area had been succumbed to disease. The survivors of whatever crisis occurred are turning into animals. I am burst out of my thoughts when I hear a bloodcurtling scream.

The other citizens are oblivious to this and keep walking on. I would like to think that I could just ignore this, but I am too curious to be kept in the dark.

I glance over to where this scream came from and see a man with scars up and down his body. He is as thin as a wire and I can  see  every one of his ribs. He is coated with dust and he reminds me of a animal that can feel no pain.

He pulls out two metal spoon and one rusty dagger with blood flaking off the handle.  I watch in horror as the man starts scooping out his right eye with the two spoons. The eye pops free and black blood pours out of the empty socket.

He screams a inhumane scream once more but stabs the rust coated dagger in his left eye. He then pulls the dagger out and his eye along with it. Black blood runs down his face from the two empty sockets.

He opens a jar and puts the two eye balls in. He reaches forward and I am frozen in fear as he pull a long metal rod with a hook out of a crook in the crumbling wall.  He suddenly thrusts the hook into his empty left eye socket. The hook gets caught on the remaining muscle.

He grunts in frustration and jerks the hook to the left and the right until the remaining muscle and skin starts to peel off until a flap is hanging off his face leaving the muscle exposed to the dirty air.

I turn away from the gruesome scene and puke into the scattered rubble. When I look back up the hook is fully submerged in his empty eye sockets He gives a animal like growl when the hook pops out the top of his head splitting his rotting scalp apart.

I watch in horror as he lights a match starting a small fire. He falls forward into the fire screaming inhumane screams as he burns. My head spins as I spin around and puke once again.

Will this be my end? I would rather die before turning into animal I would rather feel pain than feel no pain at all.
