Maggie Greene

imagine being ill and confessing to Maggie that you don't think you're going to survive the sickness.

"

"Shhh," Maggie coos as she sits beside you on the bed.

You'd been sick for days and things only looked to be getting worse. It had been so bad that you'd stopped feeling all the pain and were just beginning to go numb. You didn't think there was much time left for you here.

"Maggie," You start and your voice comes out quiet and raspy.

"What is it y/n?" She asks, her eyes flickering with worry.

You try to swallow but saliva gets caught in your throat and you start coughing. Leaning over the side of the bed, you start coughing up spit and mucus.

Maggie rubs your back tenderly as you keep coughing.

When you're finally done, you lay back down and she opens a canteen of water. You open your mouth and she pours some water in.

"Maggie," You try to start again. "I'm not getting any better." You tell her.

She shakes her head. "That's not true. We'll figure out what you're sick with and we'll find a way to treat it."

You shake your head as much as you can without getting dizzy. "I'm going to die like this."

Maggie places a hand against your cheek. Her warm hand felt so good against your freezing skin. It felt like she was putting out a fire on your cheek, and just by touching you.

"I'm going to die from whatever this sickness is but that's okay." You start to say.

Maggie's eyes were starting to fill with tears. "But it's not okay. I'm not okay without you."

You very slowly moved one of your hands to rest it on her arm, another fire being put out as your skin touches. "You will be okay. I've had a lot of time to... think, about a lot of things."

"But I can't-" She chokes out, shaking her head rapidly. You feel lightheaded watching her. "I can't do it without you."

You pause for a few seconds, closing your eyes and resting. It felt nice. You didn't feel anything at all for a few seconds and that was nice. You'd felt too much lately. Too much pain, too much emotion, too much heartache. It was all too much so not being able to feel anything, well that was almost heavenly.

You open your eyes again and things are blurry. You wait for it to focus and you see that Maggie is quietly sobbing over you.

You squeeze her arm gently.

"I'm still here." You whisper. She leans down and holds you. Your whole body starts to feel on fire, but you ignore it. You wanted to hold her one last time too. As much as you can, you try to move your arms to hold her too. You could feel things slowing down, it was like the clock that had been ticking in the background was getting slower and slower. You knew that eventually, and sooner rather than later, it would stop completely.

Everything would stop soon enough.

"It's okay," You coo softly, although it wasn't much of a coo because your voice came out sounding rather harsh.

There were only two things you had left to do in this world and you knew you had just enough time to do both.

"I love you." You whisper.

You wanted to cry, you could feel all the sadness and you wanted to let out that emotion so bad. But your body wouldn't let you. You felt like a piece of cold stone.

"You don't need me anymore." You whisper again.

She doesn't let go of you as you whisper your final words to her. She cries as she holds you and you hold her back for as long as you can, but eventually your arms start to slide off of her and her sobs get quieter and quieter until you can't hear them anymore.

You close your eyes and with one final breath, you slip away.
