03. daryl dixon
daryl dixon
imagine you and daryl going on a run and the car breaks down, resulting in an argument between the two of you in which you accidentally reveal your feelings for him.
"
With a heavy sigh you stepped out of the car, coughing as the smoke that came from beneath the hood of the car hit you in the face. You frowned at the vehicle, not knowing much about cars and so having no idea what the problem could be.
The other door opened and Daryl got out as well, opening the hood of the car he took a look at the damage, narrowing at it while shaking his head.
'What?' You sighed upon seeing the look on his face.
'S'gonna take a while,' he mumbled, reaching into his pocket and taking out a cigarette. He offered you one but you shook your head at him, refusing and instead sat down in the grass, watching as he started working on whatever needed to be fixed.
You didn't even want to be here and now the car had broken down as well, which meant it would only take longer before the two of you would be home again. It's not that you hated going on runs, in fact you rather enjoyed going out every once in a while. The danger of the unexpected made you feel alive, it was a rush you just needed from time to time. No, the runs weren't the problem.
It was the fact that it was with Daryl.
Being locked in a car with him for hours was an honest torture when your heart was beating way too fast everytime his arm accidently brushed past yours as he switched gears. It felt like you could barely breath when you sat so close to him and still it felt as if he was miles away.
You had tried your hardest to make sure he would never find out, not wanting to ruin the friendship you two had but there were moments you doubted if he didn't know. He could pick up on the smallest details and so it wouldn't surprise you if he hadn't seen the goosebumps on your skin whenever he got too close.
If he knew, he certainely hadn't shown it. He hadn't treated you any different lately than he always had. You just didn't know if that was a good or a bad thing.
A sigh left your lips, making the redneck turn to look at you. 'You alright?' He questioned, smoke leaving his lips as he talked.
'Just,' you took a deep breath, searching for words, 'how long is this gonna take?'
'Got somewhere better to be?' He frowned.
'I just don't wanna stay out longer than we need to,' you said, knowing he'd see through your lie but really not able to come up with anything better.
His eyes studied your face, forcing you to look away, your stomach turning inside of you under his heavy glare. Then he turned away, focusing his attention back on the car. You took a shaky breath before standing up and starting to pace back and forth. It felt as though your heart would explode. It was killing you to stand this close to him and yet feel as if there were galaxies keeping the two of you apart. Maybe it had been better if the two of you had never become friends at all, maybe then your heart wouldn't be racing like this every time he was around.
'Got a problem?' Daryl suddenly asked, frowning at you.
'No,' you said, your voice harder than you had intended.
'Then stop distractin' me,' he snapped and with those words something broke inside of you.
'Why do you always do that?' You asked, feeling as though your emotions were boiling over inside of you. There was no stopping it now, not after you had kept it all in for so long.
'Do what?' He asked, turning away from the car, annoyance on the edge of his voice, which only angered you more.
'Act like such a dick!' You were shouting now, feeling as though a volcano had erupted inside of you.
'Why do you care?' He shouted right back, his blue eyes as hard as ice.
'Because I love you, you asshole!' You screamed.
Silence fell between the two of you, your words echoing through the sky like a storm, ready to burst at any given moment.
Daryl stood still as a statue as he watched you, a sudden cautious look on his face that you had never seen before, as if he was trying to figure out whether or not he was dreaming.
You couldn't breathe, feeling as though the entire world had come crashing down. But suddenly it didn't seem to matter that much anymore, it didn't matter if your words had destroyed your friendship, because this was how you felt and you were tired of hiding it. And in a split second you made a decision, the damage was already done anyway.
Your feet moved forwards before your brain had even figured out what you were going to do, it felt as though your body was being pulled towards him, steered by forces beyond either one of you. And within seconds you reached him, standing on your toes you closed the distance, carefully and lightly placing your lips on his.
Fear stirred within you, half expecting him to push you away and leave you wishing you'd never said a word at all. But that doubt dissolved what he slowly wrapped his arms around you, pulling you in even closer as he deepened the kiss.
The storm within you stilled, the skies cleared because he loved you too.
