Chapter Seven
Logan Campbell looked at this son practising some soccer skills outside. Guilt had wrapped around him ever since he had that small argument with his son. He wanted to be there for his son, but he didn't want to relive his painful memories. He knew that he had to let go of his past but it was difficult.
Peeking into his son's journal was a bad habit he had developed. By doing this, he had found out that some friends from his son's youth group had joined the team. He had also found out that his team needed a coach.
He knew he needed to step up and coach the team. No, it was a must. He knew there was no way his son's team would get a coach in time for the final game. Maybe stepping up to coach the team would be a way for him to get closer to his son. Also, he missed coaching and longed to have an opportunity to coach a team. That opportunity was right there in front of him. All he had to do was take it.
*************************
Troy was trying not to worry. The game was getting closer and closer and his team still didn't have a coach. He had prayed and he was still waiting for an answer. Any answer. Maybe he could talk to Jenny about it later. Troy thought he just saw his father coming to the training grounds. Was he hallucinating? No, he wasn't. The figure was coming closer and was becoming clearer and clearer. Yep. He was sure of it. It was his dad.
"Dad!" Troy exclaimed, running with great speed towards his dad.
He pulled him into a bear hug.
"What are you doing here?" Troy asked.
"I've been doing a lot of thinking lately and I want to coach your team. I'm really sorry for what I did the last time", Troy's dad said.
"Don't worry. I'm really happy you've decided to coach the team and I forgive you, dad", Troy said.
He then went on to introduce the new coach to his teammates. Troy was grateful to God for touching his father's heart and changing his father's decision. In the midst of the imposible situations he and his teammates found themselves in, God still worked miracles.
At the training grounds, Logan Campbell had noticed that Troy was quite taken by a girl. He had never seen Troy this happy and excited over Brenda. Probably, he was falling in love with her. He would talk to him about it. He had his chance during dinner.
"So, Troy. I've noticed you're really interested in this girl. What's her name....Jenny, right?" Logan asked.
"Yes, her name's Jenny but I don't want to rush anything. When I'm ready, I'll tell you", Troy said.
"You know you can tell me anything, right?" Logan asked, just to make sure.
"Of course, dad. I know that", Troy answered.
Soon, they were finished with dinner and Troy went up to his bedroom.
As he was staring at the clock, Logan's mind began to wander. Until today, he hadn't realised how much he had missed being a coach. It was hard work, but it was also lots of fun. Why had he let his past hold him back for so long? He loved being a coach and wouldn't want to trade anything for it.
