If you haven't noticed by now, my book will be filled with a bunch of different references from literally anything I can remember, so don't be surprised if you find Disney references. I also want to say this before anything happens. I'm sorry if Nightmare becomes OOC. I wanted him to have a strange change of heart thing happen, so imagine it like Dream's words have finally hit him.
Narrator's P.O.V.
A large meadow filled with flowers stood before the ink covered skeleton. The hills of bright colors seemed to sicken him. His tentacles slammed harshly on the lush terrain beneath him, denting it from the strength of the impact. "What a waste of time this is." He seethes aloud. Not a creature was visible, other than himself. The birds had flown away and the animals of the ground had fled from the inky skeleton, scared of what he could do.
Three more skeletons exit a large portal into this floral paradise; all of them looking just a disgusted as the inky skeleton. "You know what to do." Nightmare spoke monotonously. The murder crazed skeletons behind him nodded and separated themselves. Each of them taking their own direction of choice and searching for a mysterious being. The name of the creature was unknown, but the species was simple; a fairy.
Why were they looking for a fairy? What's so special about this fairy in particular? Well, legend has it that this fairy is the last of her kind. There are many different theories about her abilities that range from wish granting to illusion creation. Her description is vague, but gives people a general idea of what she may look like. (H/L) hair, about the size of someone's palm, and small wings on her back.
No one knows exactly where she is, but the meadows have been said to hold a secret in them. Nightmare wasn't going to let such an opportunity slip through his ink covered fingers. "That wish will be mine." He growled. "And no one will take it from me."
Unbeknownst to any of the 'Bad Guys', the small fairy was watching from the very beginning. She knew what they wanted. "They're just like everyone else. They're greedy, self righteous, and insane. No one wants me for anything other than their own successes." The fairy says with a sigh. Her wings stretched, ready to take off.
"Found you."
The fairy's screams were silenced by an inky appendage covering her mouth, but her body continued to fight back. Nightmare chuckled and he watched her squirm in his grasp. "To think you're the one to finally grant my wish." Finally, after wiggle for what felt like hours, the fairy was able to get out of his inky grasp. "I shall do no such thing for someone as cruel as you!"
"Ah, so you do grant wishes." The fairy then covers her mouth with her small hands, frightened that she had let the truth slip so easily. "Well, now I can't let you go. You are much to valuable a thing to give up. You'll be mine whether you like it, or not." Hearing these words fall from the strange skeleton's mouth mortified the fairy.
Her wings flittered in speeds she didn't know they could go, but they were no match for Nightmare as he coiled his tentacle around her body. The strength in which he held her form with was tight. She screamed in agony at the immense pressure on her ribs and limbs. Her wails fell upon deaf ears because no one was coming to her rescue. Fear, pain, and lack of oxygen was causing the fairy to see spots in her vision before completely passing out.
~Time Skip~
Dull colors, dark rooms, black curtains, and medieval statues made up this strange castle. It wasn't Nightmare's, so the Star Sanses wouldn't be able to locate them as easily. The eerie halls seemed to resemble that of a haunted and abandoned castle. The curtains in tatters and the portraits having the faces torn by what seemed to be claws. Pushing an old door open caused a wave of dust to spread throughout the room.
"Wake up, my fairy. You have a wish to grant me." Nightmare says, tapping the girl's small cheek. Her head shook as she began to wake up. "Hmm?" She responds groggily. Instead of finding herself in Nightmare's hands, as she was before she lost consciousness, she found herself surrounded by glass and metal. She was in a lantern like cage, much like the one Tinkerbell was trapped in by Captian Hook.
"W-Where am I?" The fairy stutters out, scooting herself away from the inky skeleton before her. "You're in an abandoned castle in a random part of the multiverse. Now, it's time to grant my wish." He says as if it was the simplest thing in the world to accomplish. "N-Never!" A sigh can be heard coming from the skeleton. "I haven't even asked yet." He said with a smirk in his tone, but his face told another story. His features read of his displeasure and impatience.
"You're only looking to better yourself and make others bow before you! You're just like every other power hungry maniac out there!" Never has she heard such a strange sound before. Nightmare was laughing, but not maniacally. Instead, he was laughing as if she had told him the greatest joke known to monster kind. "I use people like that, but I have something better planned for this wish. My wish is the rid myself of this inky body and return myself to the body I once had."
Silence filled the dark and dusty room; complete and utter silence. "Do not play games with me, skeleton." "Nightmare. My name is Nightmare." His tone honest and simple. "I am being as honest as I can be at this very moment. Now, either grant me this wish, or I may change my mind." Quickly, the fairy shook her hands before herself. "No, no, no. That's a lovely wish, but I must know what you looked like before I can revert you back to who you once were."
It was now Nightmare's turn to be surprised. "I highly doubt I have a picture left from before the fruit." Looking up at the skeleton, the fairy notices something off about the way he's acting. "Why aren't you wishing for complete control, or some absurd desire?" Nightmare looks down at the fairy. "My soul has been tugging in a way that I can't understand. It feels like it is longing for freedom from this corruption, but also for something more. I can't quite explain it."
Summoning an inky black soul before himself, Nightmare seems to notice the way it shudders. (Y/N) notices the strange movements as well and subconsciously reaches out to it. Before she realizes what she's doing, her hand hits the glass of the lantern. Nightmare then opens the door, letting the fairy go wherever she pleased. She slowly flies closer to the ink covered soul, gently placing her hand onto it. Instead of the substance covering her hand, it seemed to clear away. She closed her eyes and let's her body take control.
Nightmare gasps in surprise, not only was she physically touching his soul, but her hands seemed to be removing the ink. Slowly, the ink covering his soul disappeared. The same substance found covering his skeletal features was also disappearing at a steady speed. Now, he may not look exactly the same as he first did, but he definitely didn't feel like the corrupted skeleton he once was.
"It's gone..." Nightmare gasped, silently rejoicing at this revelation. "It's finally gone." The fairy then looked at Nightmare, awaking from her trance. "Are, are you ok?" She asked, noticing his inkless skull. Nightmare nodded. "Thank you. You've helped me more than you know." The fairy smiled at him. "You still have a wish to be fulfilled Y'know?" Nightmare looked at her confused. "But you granted my wish. I am back to being myself. I am no longer cursed."
(Y/N) smiled up at the skeleton. "You deserve a happy ending, so why not give you another wish?" Nightmare looks as if he was going to cry his nonexistent heart out. "I kidnapped you, yet you're treating me so kindly. Why?" The fairy seemed to smile to herself. "I felt the tug as well." A grin spreads across Nightmare's skull. "Thank you." "(Y/N). My name is (Y/N)." "Thank you, (Y/N)."
"You're welcome."
(This was crap, but whatever. I hope you all enjoyed and I apologize for how late this request was. Have a wonderful day/night you all!)
