Why
"Let me get this straight," I said, looking Hades in the face. "You want me- Lilly Burke, who has done virtually nothing to deserve this- to go back to the mortal world?"
Hades chuckled. "I'm going to give you the same answer I gave you the first twenty times: yes."
"But why?" I asked, quickly after he finished. "Why me? Why now? Why?"
"Lilly," Persephone cut in. "It's not Hades, mostly."
"What do you mean?"
Persephone turned on a computer, and a video was playing on it. I looked over the goddess' shoulder to see my mother on the screen. She only had a few brown streaks in her now gray hair. She was sitting on the floor, dirty dishes piled around her. She was a mess. Her hair was a rat's nest, it seemed that she hadn't changed her clothes since I died, and she was dangerously skinny.
"Is that...?"
"Yes," Persephone answered solemnly. "She's despaired every day, refusing to do simple tasks, and barely ever sleeping. Though your father also despairs, he keeps himself sane to help your mother and, most importantly, to stop her from... well, I think you know. We'll just call it, er, joining us."
"She tried to-"
"Yes, child. I'm so sorry."
"Take me to her."
"Lilly?" Hades called to me as Hermes took my hand.
"Yes?" I replied, turning towards him.
"Your mother and father can see you, but not everyone can. Keep in mind you'll be a ghost, only vivible to those who believe in ghosts."
I took a second to process it, and then nodded. "Thank you Hades. And Hermes," I bowed to them. "Persephone," I curtseyed to her, then took Hermes' hand.
While I was traveling with Hermes, I was moving so fast that I wasn't even sure I was still there. When we came to a short stop, I almost knocked my tee th out from the impact of Hermes' arm around me. Dazed, I stumbled off to see my parents again.
"Sorry, kid," Hermes nodded to me. "I shoulda warned ya. Mortals don't usually take the landing well."
"I-it's okay, Lord Hermes."
"See ya around, kid."
"Thank you, Hermes."
I sucked in a breath. What will my parents say when they see me? They won't be ale to touch me, will they? Maybe it's something with the believing again. If you believe, you can touch. That's what she said. Agh, screw it! I'm going!
"Mom?" I called, opening the door a crack and peeking in. I saw my mother sitting in that same spot on the floor.
"Lilly?" She looked up, and our eyes met. "Lilly!"
A/N sorry for the short chapter, i just needed to end on a cliffhanger type thing. Plus, I'm tired. Have a good day/night!
