Chapter 30: The Confrontation

-3rd Person-

The night is thick with silence, broken only by the soft rustle of leaves outside the hospital window. The room is dimly lit, casting long shadows on the walls. Yui lies in the hospital bed, staring at the ceiling, her thoughts a tangled web of fear and confusion. The events of the past few days weigh heavily on her, the memories of the blood-soaked room still fresh in her mind.

A faint knock on the door startles her. Before she can respond, the door creaks open, and two elders step inside, their faces grave and unreadable. Yui recognizes them immediately—Homura Mitokado, a tall man with graying hair and a stern expression, and Koharu Utatane, a woman with sharp features and piercing eyes.

"Yui," Homura begins, his voice calm but laced with authority. "We need to talk."

Yui sits up slowly, her heart pounding in her chest. She knows this isn't a friendly visit. The air is thick with tension, and she can sense the unease in the room.

Koharu steps forward, her eyes narrowing as she studies Yui. "We're concerned about the safety of the village," she says bluntly.

"Your powers... they're dangerous."

Yui's eyes flicker with a mix of fear and defiance. She's heard this before, the whispered conversations when they thought she wasn't listening. But hearing it directly, in the middle of the night, sends a chill down her spine.

"We've come to a decision," Homura adds, his voice softer but no less serious. "There's an ancient shrine, hidden deep in the forest, that has the power to seal abilities like yours."

Yui's breath catches in her throat. A shrine that can seal her powers? The thought both terrifies and intrigues her. She's lived in fear of her abilities for so long, the idea of being free from them is almost too tempting to resist.

But as she looks at the elders, she sees something in their eyes—something they're trying to hide. A flicker of doubt, of uncertainty. They're not telling her everything.

"The shrine can protect the village, Yui," Koharu continues, her voice growing colder.

"It can keep everyone safe from... accidents."

"Accidents?" Yui repeats, her voice barely above a whisper.

"I-Is that what you think of me?"

Koharu's expression softens, but only slightly. "We're giving you a choice, Yui," she says, trying to sound gentle. "You can choose to seal your powers and live a peaceful life. Or you can continue as you are, but understand that you will always be a threat."

The words hang in the air, heavy with implication. Yui clenches her fists under the blanket, her mind racing. They're trying to make it sound like they're offering her freedom, but she knows better. This isn't a choice.

It's an ultimatum.

Homura steps closer, his voice almost a whisper. "We don't want to force you, Yui. But the safety of Konoha comes first. You understand that, don't you?"

Yui's eyes narrow, and she meets his gaze with a steely determination. "Y-you're not giving me a choice," she says, her voice shaking with emotion.

"Y-you're telling me to either seal myself away or be seen as a monster."

The room falls silent, the weight of her words sinking in. The elders exchange glances, their expressions unreadable. For a moment, Yui thinks she sees a flicker of guilt in Homura's eyes, but it's gone as quickly as it came.

"We're offering you a chance to be free," Koharu insists, but Yui can hear the strain in her voice.

"To live without fear."

"F-free?" Yui echoes, her voice bitter. "You want me to lock myself away in some shrine, where no one can ever see me again. That's not freedom. That's a prison."

Homura's patience seems to be wearing thin. He steps forward, his voice growing harsher. "You don't understand the danger you pose, Yui. If you lose control again, people will die."

The words hit Yui like a physical blow. She feels the sting of tears in her eyes, but she blinks them back, refusing to let them see her cry. "I know what I did," she says quietly, her voice trembling.

"I know I'm dangerous. But I'm not a monster."

Koharu sighs, a hint of frustration creeping into her tone. "We're not saying you are, Yui. But your powers... they're too strong. Too unpredictable. We can't take that risk."

"And what about Kakashi? Naruto? Ino? Sakura? Sasuke?" Yui's voice rises, her emotions finally spilling over.

"They don't see me as a threat. They're my friends!"

The elders exchange another glance, this time with a mixture of pity and resolve. "They care about you," Homura says softly. "But they don't understand the full extent of your powers. We do."

Yui shakes her head, her heart aching. She feels trapped, cornered. No matter what they say, she knows the truth—they're afraid of her. They want her gone, sealed away where she can't hurt anyone.

"You're afraid of me," she says, her voice breaking. "You're all afraid of me."

Homura's expression hardens. "We're afraid of what you could become," he admits.

"We're afraid of what could happen if you lose control again."

The silence that follows is suffocating. Yui feels like the walls are closing in on her, the weight of their words crushing her spirit. She's spent so long trying to control her powers, trying to be normal, but it's never been enough. Now they want her to give up everything, to seal herself away forever.

"I won't do it," she whispers, more to herself than to them. "I won't let you seal me away."

Koharu's eyes soften, and for a moment, Yui thinks she might have reached her. But then the elder shakes her head, a look of resignation on her face. "We hoped you'd see reason, Yui," she says sadly. "But if you refuse... we'll have no choice but to take matters into our own hands."

Yui's heart skips a beat. "What do you mean?" she asks, fear creeping into her voice.

Homura steps forward, his expression cold and unyielding. "We can't let you remain a threat to the village, Yui. If you won't go to the shrine willingly... we'll have to force you."

Yui's blood runs cold. The reality of their words hits her like a ton of bricks. They're not just giving her a choice—they're giving her an ultimatum. Either she seals herself away, or they'll do it for her.

"No," she breathes, shaking her head in disbelief. "You can't do this."

Homura's expression is full of sorrow, but there's a steely determination in his eyes. "We have to protect the village, Yui. No matter the cost."

Yui's mind races, desperate to find a way out of this nightmare. She's trapped, with no one to turn to. Her friends, her only source of comfort, are all asleep in the next room, unaware of the danger she's in.

"You don't have to do this," she pleads, her voice trembling. "Please... don't make me do this."

Koharu's eyes glisten with unshed tears, but she shakes her head.

"It's for the best, Yui. For everyone."

The words are like a dagger to Yui's heart. She feels the last of her hope slipping away, replaced by a deep, crushing despair. They're going to take her away, lock her up where no one can find her, all because they're afraid of what she might do.

"You're wrong," Yui whispers, her voice barely audible. "You're all wrong."

But the elders don't respond. They've made up their minds, and there's nothing she can do to change them. As they turn to leave the room, Yui feels the weight of their decision settling on her chest, suffocating her.

"Wait," she calls out, her voice shaky but determined.

The elders pause, turning back to her with a mixture of curiosity and caution.

"I'll go to the shrine," Yui says, her voice trembling with fear and anger. "But not because you're making me. I'll go because I want to protect my friends. Because I won't let you turn me into a monster."

"J-just give me time..." She stutters out, heart clenching in pain as she imagines her final moments with the people she loves and trusts.

Homura nods slowly, his expression unreadable. "That's all we wanted, Yui. For you to understand."

But Yui doesn't feel understood. She feels betrayed, and abandoned by the very people who were supposed to protect her. As the elders leave the room, she sinks back into the bed, her mind racing with a thousand thoughts.
