Chapter 35: Hearing Voices
"Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good"
"What's Eichen House?" Anita heard Aiden as she made her way to Stiles room to help with finding Stiles.
"A mental health center". Anita answered as she walked into the room slowly. Aiden and Lydia turned and looked at her from where they stood.
Anita walked a bit closer, looking at all the pictures and string Stiles had hung up on the wall, her eyes landing on the building as she gulped. "Other words...a crazy house".
"That's where William Barrow, the shrapnel bomber, was committed". Lydia told the two.
"Is that it?" Aiden asked Lydia.
"That's where he is. That's where Stiles is". Lydia confirmed.
Anita shook her head. "How did Stiles get in there". She pointed to the picture. "You can't just walk in there. The security in that place is crazy".
"How do you know? You stayed there?" Aiden asked Anita as a joke.
Lydia looked at him with wide eyes and Anita chewed the inside of her cheek, looking at the ground and nodded her head. Anita looked up to Aiden, meeting his gaze.
"Yeah, I did". She whispered. "For almost 8 years".
Aiden was about to apologize but Anita looked to Lydia. "I don't think he's there".
"It has to be. I heard these whispers and it led me to this picture". Lydia tried to justify her answer. She needed to find Stiles.
Anita still wasn't convinced but nodded her head. "You should tell Noah then".
"Are you going to come?" Lydia asked her.
Anita immediately shook her head. "I'm not stepping foot in that place". She told her seriously. "Go. I'll stay here just in case he comes home". She told the two.
She watched Aiden and Lydia rush out of the room and she turned back to the pictures and string. With a deep breath, Anita tugged at the end of her glove on her right hand.
Anita slowly took it off and held it in her other hand, looking at the wall. She felt energy start to swarm around her and shook her head slightly. "What's going on, Stiles?" She whispered and placed her hand against the covered wall.
Unknown sounds started to swarm her ears but she didn't see anything.
Stiles
An eerie voice called.
Everyone has it but no one can lose it
Everyone has it but no one can lose it
Everyone has it but no one can lose it
And then Stiles screaming
Anita opened her eyes and looked at the wall in front of her.
"What the hell?"
Anita winced at the sudden pain in her head, closing her eyes once more and putting her hand up to it. Once the pain subsided she brought her hand down and looked at the photo of Eichen House on the wall.
Her eyes slowly gathered with tears as unwanted memories filled her head.
There were stories of what happened in Eichen that no one knew about. Alive of course. Simon knew. But no one else did. Not even Derek.
Anita was sixteen. It was her fourth year in Eichen and she swore if Simon wasn't there she would've went crazy a long time ago.
Anita was currently sitting at a table, playing a card game with Simon but it looked like she was playing it by herself to others obviously.
"I'm choosing the next game after this". Simon told her.
"Fine". Anita smiled softly, knowing the reason he wanted to play a different game.
He kept losing.
Anita took another card, exchanging one out as a pair of footsteps started to come closer. Simon looked up and he sat straighter, his eyes on the figure that now stood somewhat behind Anita.
"What game are you playing, Anita?"
It was Brunski.
He was there since Anita got to Eichen. He was one of Ordelys. He was nice to her but something about him creeped her out. Not to mention the energy that radiated off of him. It made her sleepy, which was strange.
"Queens in the corner". Anita answered softly, not looking at him.
"Isn't this a two player game?" He asked.
"Yes". She replied quietly.
"Why don't I join you since no one else is here". Brunski placed his hand on her shoulder, giving it a small squeeze, causing her to stiffen, her fearful eyes looking at Simon.
Simon clenched his jaw as he glared at Brunski who was looking down at Anita.
"Actually I am playing with-"
"Don't tell me it's a ghost Anita. Do I need to write you up for a shot?" Brunski threatened.
Anita felt her heart start to think faster in her chest and he didn't let go of her shoulder still.
"N-no". Anita stuttered.
"Now". Brunski moved a piece of hair away from her face. "How about that game?" He asked.
Simon had enough, standing from the seat, the chair moving slightly. Even though Simon was a young ghost, not doing well at making physical contact with objects, the anger was enough to channel through and he shoved Brunskis hand away from her and gave him a shove to move.
Brunski, who was surprised by the sudden force stumbled slightly and looked around. Not seeing Simon glaring at him.
"Don't fucking touch her". Simon hissed at Brunski.
"Sorry for the language, birdie". Simon apologized to Anita.
Brunski cleared his throat.
"Sorry, Anita. I just remembered I have to do some filing". Brunski made up an excuse and walked away.
Anita sat on the edge of Stiles bed and put the glove back over her hand. She looked at the open door and was hoping Stiles would just walk in but he never did. She was sitting there for awhile and then finally her phone rang.
Anita scrambled to get it out of the pocket, hoping it was someone telling her they found him. She looked at the screen, seeing Derek was the one calling her and she immediately opened it.
"Did you find him?" She asked, waiting with anticipation.
Yes. He's at the hospital right now. I'm about to pick you up, meet me outside.
Derek answered from the other end of the phone.
Anita breathed with relief and hung up, making her way down stairs and out the front door. As she was walking to the curb, she saw Derek pulling up and soon stopped. Anita grabbed the passenger side of the door and opened it.
"Who found him?" Anita asked as she got in.
"Scott's mom". Derek answered as he made sure no cars were coming and made a U-Turn.
Anita nodded and looked out the window, playing with her gloved hands. "I saw something". Anita told him.
"What did you see?" Derek asked.
Anita knitted her eyebrows. "Actually". Anita started. "I didn't see anything". She recalled. "Just a strange voice. And Stiles screaming. I don't know who the other person was but was demanding Stiles to answer a riddle". Anita explained.
Derek glanced at her, seeing her trying to find an explanation. "Strange. I'm sure you'll figure it out". He tried to reassure her.
When they got to the hospital, the two got out of the car and saw Ethan make his way towards them.
"So, you think he was just sleepwalking? Or is there something more to it?" Ethan asked them.
"In this town there's always something more". Derek answered easily, not bringing up what Anita told him just moments ago.
"What if I told you I know something more?" Ethan asked. Derek looked at him to continue.
"I kind of overheard...well, I listened in on Stiles talking to Scott. How he thinks he was the one who wrote that message in the Chemistry room". Ethan explained making Derek look at him confused.
"The message telling Barrow to kill Kira".
"You think Stiles, skinny, defenseless Stiles is rhe Nogitsune?" Derek asked Ethan in disbelief.
"You forgot hyperactive". Anita spoke up.
Derek glanced at her, eyebrows raising as he gave a confirming nod. Derek then turned back to Ethan. "A powerful, dark spirit?"
"I'm not the only one thinking. I'm just the only one saying it". Ethan defended himself.
"This thing wants to possess someone and chooses Stiles?" Derek couldn't believe it. "Why wouldn't it take someone bigger, stronger? Someone with a little more..." Derek trailed off as realization started to kick in. "Power". He finished.
"I could always-"
"No. No. No way". Derek was quick to cut Anita off. Knowing exactly what she was going to stay.
"Oh, come on. I need to do something". Anita crossed her arms over her chest.
"If it is true. You shouldn't be anywhere-"
"It could give us the answer we need". Anita was now the one who cut him off.
"You could get drained. You already tuned in earlier". Derek did not want her to go in that hospital.
Anita only huffed, shaking her head, not looking at him anymore.
Ethan's eyes flickered back and forth from the two. "It's creepy how you two do that. You're like an old married couple". Ethan pointed out.
Anita and Derek's response was a glare sent his way.
