Chapter 33: Feel so Close
"I hope it's okay if I love you forever"
Anita jumped on Derek. "Derek wake up. Wake up! Wake up!" She said excitedly, shaking his shoulders.
Derek groaned before opening his eyes. A small smile making his way on his lips. "What?" He said all groggily.
"Stilinski offered me a job at the police station!" She sat up on his waist, looking down at him with a bright smile.
Derek's eyes widened. "How?" He asked. "I'm happy you have a job but don't you need a degree?" He asked.
"Ok!" Anita adjusted her position. "I'm in charge of taking non emergency calls at the station and helping with organizing and such. Like a secretary. Sooooo..." She waited for Derek to finish.
"No degree". Derek smiled, grabbing onto her hips gently.
"Exactly". Anita beamed.
"I'm happy for you". Derek said genuinely.
"But. That means going back to Beacon Hills". Anita's tone changed.
"We both knew we couldn't stay away from there for long". Derek ran one of his thumbs over her hip.
Anita let out a sigh. "I know". Anita flopped over, laying down next to him on her back.
"When's your first day?" Derek asked.
"In two days". Anita looked up at the ceiling.
"Ok. We can either leave-"
Derek was unable to finish his suggestion because his phone started to buzz. Derek leaned over, grabbing it from the nightstand. Derek groaned seeing Peters name flash on it. He flicked it open, putting it towards his ear.
"What do you want?" Derek asked clearly annoyed.
Anita couldn't hear what Peter was saying but when Derek sat up straight in bed and his eyes darted around, she knew it was nothing good. Derek then let out a deep breath.
"Shut up before I change my mind about helping you". Derek then hung up the phone and got out of bed.
"Peter got himself in another mess". Derek went over and opened up a drawer, grabbing a shirt and putting it on.
"Don't worry. We're not too far from Beacon Hills. I'll get a ride". Anita reassured him, rolling to the side of the bed where she sat up, her feet barley touching the ground.
"You sure?" Derek asked.
Anita gave him a confirming nod. "Yes. It will only be for a few days. You better call me though". She said seriously.
"I will". Derek hurried over to her, kissing the top of her head before heading out of the motel.
When Derek left, Anita grabbed her phone from the coffee table and clicked on Isaac's number. She waited a few rings before he picked up.
"Anita!" Isaac said happily on the other side of the phone.
"I thought you died. You barley talk to me anymore". Isaac then said.
"I texted you two days ago". Anita smiled a bit. "Hey, so I know it's last minute but I need a ride back to Beacon Hills". Anita cut right to the chase.
It was silent for a bit.
"Did you and Derek break up?"
Anita's eyes widened at that. "No!" She quickly said. "I got a job at the station and I start in two days. Peter got into who knows what and Derek just left to help. Also! I don't have a license".
"You're 20. How do you not have your license?"
Anita glared at Isaac through the phone. "One! I was in Eichen until I was 19. Two...I'm poor". Anita told him.
Isaac started laughing at her second reason. "Anita. You're forgetting I don't even have a car. But I know someone-"
"That's why I called you. I blocked his number right before I left". Anita cut Isaac off.
"Why?"
"He kept texting me non stop ever since he figured out what I am". Anita explained.
"Makes sense. I'll let him know. I'm sure he won't mind. Text me your address and I'll let you know when we leave".
"Thank youuuu". Anita was grateful for Isaac.
"Yeah. Yeah. Bye".
~~~
"I can't believe you're back!" Stiles said excitedly, driving back to Beacon Hills.
"Me neither". Anita mumbled from the back.
"My dad is excited for you to start working". Stiles looked at her through the revere mirror for a second.
"I love your dad. He's great". Anita admitted. It was true. He was a great father and she saw him as a father figure to her since her own father was terrible. "Thanks again for picking me up". Anita thanked Stiles.
"No problem. Now unblock my contact".
"Only if you don't spam me with questions". Anita raised an eyebrow to him.
Stiles grumbled a bit. "Fine". Stiles was silent for a moment and then finally asked another question that has been on his mind.
"Why Derek?"
"What?" Anita was confused by his question.
"Like. You're nice-most times. Smart, a Ravenclaw in my books, and Derek is Derek".
Anita immediately knew what he was talking about now and leaned over to Isaac, giving him a look. "You told him?" Anita asked in slightly anger.
"He figured it out!" Isaac quickly defended himself. "Plus it was obvious".
Stiles nodded his head from Isaac's comment. "I mean you two are always together. The Twins kidnapping you, Derek always getting protective when you're near-have you seen the way he looks at you? It's nauseating sometimes". Stiles just kept going on and on.
"Who else knows?" Anita asked.
Stiles blew out some air and waved his one hand around, still looking at the road as he drove. "Like-just-everyone". Stiles said slowly.
Anita groaned, her head going into her hands.
"Why is it so bad for people to know?" Isaac asked her.
"Derek and I just didn't want many people to know. We're not-people don't need to know everything about us. That's how it's been. I'm the crazy girl who went to Eichen. Derek's whole family burned to death. People don't need to know everything about our lives". Anita told the two and the car went quiet and then she just faced this was how it was.
"Probably would've came out sooner or later". She leaned back into her seat.
~~~
Anita opened the door to the loft and immediately stopped when she saw Ethan and Danny by the window. She was holding onto her purse with one hand and the other arm a few folders and a book.
"Uhhh". Anita looked at them confused. "What-"
"Anita!" Ethan quickly stopped her from saying anything. He went over to her with a smile. "Thanks again for letting us use the loft". He gave her a look that read, 'play along'
Anita looked at Ethan now a few feet away from her and then to Danny.
"Hi Danny". She greated.
"Hey! This place is sick". He continued to look around and Anita looked back to Ethan.
"What the hell are you doing?" She asked in a whisper.
"I thought you had a night shift". Ethan said.
"I got off early-and that's no excuse. This is my place and if Derek finds out about this." She gave him a look.
Ethan groaned. "He's out of town. Please. It's just one rave". Ethan then tapped her arm lightly. "You've never been to a rave. You have to experience one". Ethan tried to persuade her.
Anita didn't say anything which made Ethan let out a deep breath. "Please, I really like Danny".
Anita pursed her lips as she looked at him. "I want certain songs to be played".
"Any song". Ethan nodded.
"$20".
Ethan raised an eyebrow. "You have a job. Why do you need $20?"
Anita cocked her head to the side a bit. "Do you want to impress Danny or not?"
Ethan sighed. "Ok".
"And if Derek finds out about this, I was not part of it".
"Deal! But he's not going to find out".
"Have fun!" Anita waved and headed up the stairs of the loft. "He's so going to find out".
~~~
"I regret my decision". Anita sat as far away from everyone as she could. This was not her scene. Drunk teenagers, loud music. She did however get some of her face and body painted with the neon paint. She thought that was fun.
Also, healing her inner child.
"Anita?"
Anita turned her head, seeing Charlie walking over. She smiled at him. "Hey". She greeted.
"You're back!" He said surprised.
"Yeah. I got a job". She nodded.
"That's awesome. I didn't know you would be here. Especially with teenagers."
"You're a teenager". She pointed to him.
"Actually. I'm an adult. I turned 18 last week". Charlie said proudly.
"Happy late birthday!" She smiled to him.
"Thanks. I would've invited you to a small party but...you know". His smile slowly went away.
"Sorry". Anita gave him an apologetic look.
"It's alright. Now you're back! We can hang out like old times".
Anita only smiled. She did want to hang out with Charlie again. He was the normal thing in her life and she still wanted that. To talk to someone who didn't know about the supernatural.
"We'll have to see when our schedules work". She confirmed and his smile grew even more.
A drink was then placed down in front of Anita. "It's fruity". Isaac said to her.
"I'll see you later". Charlie told her, glancing at Isaac and then disappearing into the crowd.
Anita then turned to Isaac who was looking at her.
"I'll try it". She said and took a sip. She nodded her head slowly. "Not bad, Lahey". Isaac smiled at her comment and leaned in closer to her ear.
"Try and loosen up. You'll see this isn't so bad after all". Isaac tried to help.
"We'll see". She muttered.
Anita only moved from her spot when she went to get some drinks. Simon was there to occupy her and made comments on how wild teenagers were in this day of age. Anita wasn't paying attention to how much alcohol she was consuming and though it was not a lot. This was her first time actually drinking it.
She may of been 20 years old but she was a lightweight. Simon was talking to her and all of a sudden his voice was getting further and further away and then nothing.
"Simon?" Anita asked, turning to where he once stood but he was gone. Anita let out a breathy scoff. "Jerk. Left me all alone".
A song from the list she gave Ethan suddenly came on and she gasped. "I love this song. Move". She moved past a teenager and headed on the dance floor and started to dance. In the middle of dancing she heard her name again.
"Anita?"
Anita slowly stopped dancing, turning around to see Scott with a girl she didn't know.
"Heyyyyyyy". She smiled widely. "Been awhile".
"What are you doing here?" Scott asked shocked and Anita gave him a confused look.
"I live here".
"I know that but Derek-"
"Shhhhh. It's a secret". She placed her hands on his shoulders and looked him in the eyes. Scott knew she was drunk. With his werewolf senses he could smell the alcohol but he also knew Anita. This Anita was a lot more carefree.
"Whose this?" Anita looked at Kira.
"Oh. I'm Kira". The girl introduced herself.
"Anita". Anita pointed to herself and then to the dance floor.
"Be careful". Scott said seriously.
"Mhm". Anita gave a nod and returned to her dancing.
Anita soon found herself off the dance floor just in time for Lydia to pat Aidens arm before leaving him. Aiden wolfed out for a moment in frustration and Anita slid over in front of him.
"Your brother owes me $20". She said.
Aiden looked at her with annoyance. "Not now Anita".
"Come on. Trade off". She handed him her drink. "Also, Lydia secretly likes it". She mentioned the rave.
Aiden then looked at her in hope. "Really?"
Anita nodded her head.
Hell no she didn't. She just wanted the $20.
Aiden shoved his hand into his pocket, pulling out a $10 and two $5s, handing them to her and then grabbing her drink from her hand.
"Thank you". Anita shoved the money into her boot, almost stumbling over. She smiled widely. "Sucker". She snorted. Before the rave started, Ethan already gave her the $20.
Now, Anita was in front of the security for the DJ. "Feel so Close. Calvin Harris". She said again.
"Lady, like I said. Only requests The Bloody Beetroot are doing is on a paper they were given by the man in charge." The security guy said to her in annoyance.
"Man in charge?" Anita questioned. "That paper is all of my requests. I didn't put that song down. Play it! Play it!" She started to chant, moving her arms up and down.
"I'm going to kick you out of here". The security guy threatened.
"Play the song. Everyone is going to vibe to it. Give the people what they want! Also, what kind of name is Bloody Beetroot? Sounds like something I would call my period". Anita said dramatically.
"What's going on?" Aiden came up.
"She keeps wanting a request but I told her-"
"It's fine. Just let her request whatever song she wants. She's the only exception". Aiden gestured to Anita.
Anita gave the man a 'I told you so' look. The security guy didn't bother to say anything else.
Aiden soon left back into the crowd while Anita waited for the song. Soon enough the beat played and Anita cheered happily along with some people from the crowd.
Anita felt free. She closed her eyes briefly and spun around, stumbling slightly as she moved her body to the song and at certain parts jumped up and down along with the crowd.
"Told you this song gets the crowd going". Anita said loudly to the security guard but he most likely couldn't hear her. Anita spun around again, closing her eyes while moving her hands through the air as she sang the song out loud.
"Bro, sorry, The Bloody Beetroot doesn't take requests. Only one is her. So if you want a song, convince her".
Anita continued to dance until a pair of arms stopped her. "Hey-". Anita opened her eyes, seeing it was Derek.
"This wasn't my idea". She was quick to say and then grabbed onto him.
"Dance with me. I love this song". Anita tried to make him dance.
Derek's eyebrows knitted as he analyzed her. "Did you drink?" He asked, holding her arms gently.
Anita nodded and tried to make him dance again. "Come on". She dragged out. "Dance with me".
"Anita, I love you but we have a problem right now". He told her seriously. Hoping the words sunk in, knowing everything was spinning for her.
"Next time?" She asked.
Derek nodded. "Next time". He confirmed and the two let go of one another. Derek turning back to the security guy.
The security guy placed a hand again on Derek's chest to stop him from getting to the DJ. "Bro, seriously. I said the DJ doesn't take-"
Derek looked at the man's hand then grabbed his throat. "He'll take mine". And Derek tossed him aside.
"That was hot". Anita commented from where she stood to the side. Derek gave her a wink and then tossed the DJs equipment on the ground.
"GET OUT!" Derek's voice sounded like thunder and the teenagers started to scatter. Derek looked back to the DJ who then ran as well.
Anita watched people scatter and then saw Aiden in the distance. "$20". She said mischievously. She wanted to see if she could get more money from him.
"Aiden". Anita called, as she made her way over to him. On her way towards him she passed by a black figure with a mask on. She looked at them with question with each step she took but thought it was a Halloween costume.
"I was wondering..." Anita was about to continue once she was a few feet from him and then heard feet shuffle. Anita turned around seeing that there was more than one figure now.
"Are those ghosts or do you see them too?" Anita asked Aiden as she slowly backed up next to him.
"I see them too". He confirmed.
"Are they looking at us?" Anita asked.
Aiden looked at them and then at the pack. "Guys, they're all looking at me and Anita". Aiden told them and the figures took a step closer towards the two.
"Why are they all looking at us?" Anita then asked in panic. Aiden placed his right arm out, slightly shoving Anita behind him.
"Guys?" Aiden asked when the figures took another step, not knowing what to do.
Derek and Scott ran towards the figures and tried to fight them off. But these things were different. They didn't die.
Isaac then took a step forward at one that was closer to Anita and flicked his claws out. One of the figures turned to Isaac and yanked a sword from his chest.
"Somebody do something". Allison then said.
Anita furrowed her eyebrows and turned around, seeing an Oni directly in front of her. Anita went to punch it but she seemed to be stuck in a trance as it looked into her eyes.
Anita didn't really know what happened next. Saw green from its eyes. It's hand touching the side of her face and then coldness.
"What the hell were those things?" Scott asked.
"Your dads 24 hours are up".
Derek ran over to Anita and pulled her into her arms as she shivered. "You're okay". Derek reassured her. He checked the back of her ear, finding the backwards five.
"I'm never partying again". Anita told him through her shivers. Derek smiled softly, holding her tighter against him.
