Chapter 30: Your Fault
"They say it's not your fault but they make sure you feel like it is."
Punch
"Derek?"
Punch
"Derek come on!"
Stiles went to punch him again but Derek caught his fist. Derek looked to the side seeing Anita sitting against the wall of the elevator, her hand on her bandage. He looked around some more then to Stiles.
"Where is she?" He asked.
"Jennifer? Gone. With Scott's mom". Stiles informed him.
"She took her?" Derek asked from the ground.
"Yeah and that's not enough of a kick to the balls, Scott left with Deucalion. Okay? So, we gotta get you two out of here". Stiles looked from Derek to Anita.
"The police are coming right now. And we gotta get you the hell out of here". Stiles helped pull Derek up.
"Whoa". Derek said from the sudden change.
Anita yanked herself up, knowing she was feeling much better than Derek.
"What about Cora?" Derek asked Stiles.
~~~
Anita rubbed her neck as Derek drove.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Derek asked her.
"I will be once this whole thing is over". She answered softly and saw Isaac with the Argents in the distance.
Derek pulled up, immediately getting out along with Anita. Derek walked towards Isaac's car where he had it open to get his sister.
"Where's Scott and Stiles?" Allison asked.
"Stiles is still at the hospital. He's gonna hold off the cops for us". Derek explained,
"We have to go right now". He looked at Isaac once he got his sister and headed back to the car he came out of. Anita opened up the door behind her where Derek placed Cora down.
"What about Scott and Melissa?" Chris asked.
"Jennifer took Melissa". Anita looked at Chris.
"What about Scott?" Allison then asked.
Anita and Derek exchanged a look. Derek went back around to get back in the drivers seat. Isaac walked over, giving Anita a comforting smile, glad she was alright.
"Anita, Derek, where's Scott?"
Derek stopped walking and Anita looked to Allison.
"You really want to know?" Anita asked. She saw Allison's pleaded look and let out a sigh. "He went with Deucalion".
~~~
Anita was further away from Derek and Isaac who were watching Cora. Anita was pacing back and forth as Simon was talking to her.
"I don't know what to do". She told her best friend.
"There's nothing you can do". Simon watched her pace. "This is out of your hands. You can't magically make someone better".
Anita shook her head as she continued her pace. "There has to be something".
"Want to figure something out? Because while Scott and Stiles were out there trying to help people from being killed. Anita exhausting herself from using her gift. You were in here being friends with the actual killer". Isaac went off on Derek.
This confrontation made Anita pace faster while her nails dug into her skin.
"Do you get how many people she's killed? Erica and Boyd are dead. Cora is dying. And you are doing nothing!" Isaac shouted at the end.
"Why'd you do this to us, Derek?" Isaac asked much more softly. "Was it all about the power? Were you bored?" Isaac got closer to Derek.
"Maybe". Derek looked back to his sister. "I told Cora I wouldn't leave. I'll help the others when I figure out how to help her".
"There's no time! The full moons coming. The sheriff and Melissa are gonna be dead so I'm gonna try and help them". Isaac opened up the door.
"You can sit here and perfect the art of doing nothing". With that, Isaac slammed the door shut.
"I wouldn't take it personally". Peter said from the stairs. "Anger is just a tool". Peter stood up and headed down the steps. "He's using it to excuse shifting allegiance from one alpha to another. From you to Scott".
"Scott's not an alpha yet". Derek said to his uncle.
"But he's on his way. Isn't he?" Peter asked, watching Anita pace as she was talking softly.
~~~
Anita sat on the table as Peter was slightly in front of her. She watched Derek grab Cora's arm. Black veins appearing on his arm where he held her. Cora's gasping started to quicken and then died down.
"Careful". Peter told his nephew and Derek let go in pain, his hand shaking.
"Don't worry. I know going too far could kill me". Derek reassured his uncle.
"That's not exactly what I meant". Peter commented.
~~~
"I shouldn't be here". Anita said softly, shoving a book into her locker.
"You need to graduate". Simon said from beside her. Anita grumbled from his comment.
"I should be with Cora".
"Derek and Peter have it covered. Plus, the school day is almost over".
Anita closed her locker and turned to Simon. "I want normal". She sighed. "At least normal for me. Everything has been too chaotic". Anita leaned against the row of lockers.
"Hi Anita". Charlie walked towards her, giving her a small smile and wave.
There was her normal.
"Hey". Anita smiled.
Simon groaned loudly and glared at Charlie.
"It's been awhile". Charlie commented.
"I know. I forgot you were here". Anita said and Charlie frowned a bit. Simon bursted out laughing.
"I don't know why I said that. That was mean. I've been so busy, I really haven't been here". Anita confessed.
Charlie's lips slowly turned back to a smile. "No, I understand. I noticed you were either gone or just off around here". Charlie gestured with his hand.
Anita shoved her hands into her coat pockets. "Hey. When I get back to a normal schedule would you want to hang out? I won't be here after December but we can-"
"Yes!" Charlie said quickly, his eyes wide. "I would like to hang out with you again". He gave her a nod.
"No. No. Did I mention no?" Simon groaned.
"Great. I'll call you". Charlie said and smiled even more before walking down the hallway.
Simon gave Anita an unamused look. "I thought you stopped talking to him".
"I haven't had time. We are just friends. You know I love Derek". She told him seriously. Simon only grumbled and then Greenberg and some other student came up to Anita.
"Hey! Ghost Whisperer. Talking to one of your friends?" Greenberg teased.
Anita was used to this by now.
"Actually, yes". She answered. She was talking to Simon.
Greenberg and the other student laughed.
"Why don't you go back to the nut house, psycho". The other student got closer to her.
Simon immediately threw his hand under the binder Greenberg was holding and it whacked him in the face before falling on the ground. Simon's eyes widened, not expecting that.
"I didn't mean to do that". He admitted.
"What the hell?" Greenberg held his nose before scrambling to get his binder.
"Freak!"
The two boys ran down the hall.
"I want to go home and I hate home". Anita muttered.
Her encounters weren't over yet because the sound of shoes squeaking and then Stiles voice sounded down the hall. "Sorry". He apologized, almost running into someone. "Anita!" Stiles shouted when he saw her and immediately ran towards her.
"Oh, no". Anita whispered.
The running got louder and then Stiles stopped right in front of her with a huge grin. His arms out by his sides. "I know what you are". He confessed. "I feel like an idiot for not knowing sooner". Stiles admitted.
"Let's see if you're right." Anita smiled slightly.
Stiles looked around to make sure no one was listening in.
"A Wisp". Stiles said in a low voice and looked at her with anticipation.
Anita stared at him. Letting him wait and finally answered.
"Congratulations Stiles".
Stiles eyes widened and he punched the air. "YES!" He yelled, making some students turn their way. "That's so cool". Stiles lowered his voice this time. "I have to go". He then said quickly, patting her arm and and then running back down the hallway.
"Remember what I said". Anita called to him.
"Yeah!" Stiles through his arm in the air, rounding the corner, almost running into students.
"I truly believe he eats pixie sticks for breakfast". Simon commented from beside Anita.
Anita felt her back pocket buzz and took her phone out. She opened it and read the message from Peter;
Get back to the loft
